Caring For Your Moped

Winterization of your moped

This is very important to do, this will ensure better life for your moped it will bounce back easier in the spring. These are the steps I suggest to do.
1, First you need to know where you are going to store the moped, in a dry out of the way place.
2, Add the proper amount of `Fuel Stabilizer' to a full tank. Make sure you don't have an Ethanol blended gasoline, Fill Your tank with a High Quality gas with NO ethanol.
3, I also put a little 2-cycle engin oil into the tank.
4, Take out the spark plug and squirt a little 2-cycle engin oil into the cylinder this will prevent seizing, in the spring.
5, Spray all insides of the cables casing with a penetrating fluid that has graphite in it. Trust me!
6, Lube up grease nipples, and spray (with the graphite) all joints, and chain
7, Inflate the tires to their spec, usually 30 psi
8, Put a piece of card board with a rag on it to catch possible leeks (which should be fixed first)
9,Run Your Ped at least once a mounth
10,Clean, Wax and polishy your bike

Preparation for spring
Ok its spring, or summer for some and your moped has just sat for a while. These are the steps that I suggest.
1, Take out the spark plug and drip some oil in it, and for caution wait a few minuets
2, Find you flywheel and turn it, to move the piston look through the spark hole to make sure it is moving and try to plug the hole with you finger to make sure that there in pressure. (More than likely it will move and you will have pressure.)
3, If seized put more oil into the cylinder and let sit over night
4, Check and if you have to adjust the chain tension, lube it to, I use drive chain oil
5, Check and re-lube the cables, adjust if have to
6, Spray moving parts with the graphite
7, check tires, fill if required
8, Personally I replace the spark plug but you can also set the gap, and put back in, you can also put a very small amount of silicon on tip of the spark plug (the end that sticks out) before you put the boot back on the end
9, Clean Carb
10, Make sure steering is free.
11, Start it up, (you know you want to)
12, Let it run and spray some more carb cleaner in
13, Test lights, horn, brakes, throttle, kill switch.
14, Now you should be good to go for that ride, don t forget your helmet, and proper you licence and every thing else you need to drive where you live.

Do you have an older moped?
If so you should do all of this and a little more, here are the some other tips
-put a little 2 stroke fuel into the gas tank with every fill up, if you miss every so often no big deal. This will keep it from rusting. Only ad a little though, you judge.
-Take the cables (break, throttle, kill, and spedo) all of the way out and hang them up and down. Put a Graphite penetrating fluid down the cables, this will get rid of any gunk and clogging around the cables. It will also continue to lube as you use it.
- I don’t know how it really effects the motor but the label seems quite convincing and that is on the Valvoline Max Life, High Milage engin Oil. I use this and seems to help.

Why Graphite?
Well I find a penetrating fluid that says graphite is in it is the best. It cost a little more but trust me it works. As you spry it in it lubes and get rid of gunk and bad build up. As it dries it will leave the graphite behind and in the case of cable it work its way into and around all the metal, and as you use it, it continues to lube. WD-40 will actually dry the area out and cause more problems later. WD-49 also freezes, with graphite in it wont. Actually graphite is the only stuff you should use to lube locks. Try it out than decide
