Prairie Crossing Stable is a semi-private stable that is managed by the
Prairie Crossing Stable Cooperative, a not-for-profit organization.
The Cooperative is a group of dedicated horse lovers and owners that have
banded together to provide a unique environment for boarding and enjoying
horses.
Whether you live in the community or just love the trails and open prairies
of Grayslake, all are welcome to apply for open stalls. We have boarders
from all over lake county as well as from Prairie Crossing.
If your looking to move your horse to this beautiful region of Illinois,
please consider a stop at Prairie Crossing Stable for a
tour of the facility.
The Stable
The Prairie Crossing Stable has thirteen
stalls, an insulated tack room and heated lounge, a large outdoor arena,
four paddocks, and four pastures for daily turnout.
The stable currently is home to a number of horses, as well as other farm
animals that are adopted by residents of the community.
The Trails
A regional trail winds through the prairies and hedgerows of Prairie
Crossing, and an underpass under Route 45 connects the trail to the
Liberty Prairie Reserve,
which encompasses over 2,000 acres preserved as open land.
Bounded by Routes 137, 120 and the Des Plaines River, it features
forests, marshes, fields and farmsteads dating back to the early days of
settlement in the 1800's. The trail at Prairie Crossing will span the
Reserve, linking the Prairie Crossing Stable with the Des Plaines River Trail.
