Diego Armando Maradona

Diego Armando Maradona is one of the greatest players in the history of soccer! Maradona scored some of best and most popular goals. The most renowned moment would be when he made soccer history soccer during the 1986 World Cup in Mexico against England. His first goal was the notorious "Hand of God" goal, but when he dribbled through 9 English players and defeated the goalkeeper scoring an amazing goal, Maradona put his claim on the world prooving to set the standard for excellence.

Born on October 30, 1960 in the poor slums of Villa Fiorito on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, Diego grew up with soccer. He was nicknamed "El pibe de oro". He started in Argentinos Juniors, then Boca Juniors and then went on to play for the national team. He went to Barcelona and played in Spain for some years. In 1984 he went to play for Napoli and won two Italian championships in 1986/87 and 1989/90, a Coppa Italia (1987), an Uefa cup (1989) and a Supercoppa Italiana (1990).

Unfortunately his fame and fortune soon got him into trouble. In the World Cup of 1994 in the USA, Maradona was tested for drugs after a game against Nigeria and was found to have

used "ephedrine", not permitted by FIFA. He was suspended from playing soccer for a year as punishment. Although Argentina came in with a strong team in the 1994 World Cup, everything went downhill after the scandal.

But I think Maradona should be remembered for what he showed on the soccer grounds of every part of the world, and not for his private life, and that what he has shown us through soccer is something really magnificent and unforgettable.
