“Romantic Serenade of Colonial Times”
©By Lisa Richardson
Swiftly flowing waters lap upon the sides of the houseboat, as it charts the river’s course
The warmth of the sunshine lulls me into a dream of a romantic time as elegant ladies modestly veil delicate complexions with bustle bow and lace umbrellas. Promenading as though on ceremony
They sauntered upon the avenue. Squeals of delight rang out in the crisp morning air as children ran between bails of hay playing tag. I heard horses hooves upon the cobblestones clip clop. Swagmen wander from town to town. Possessions rolled up hanging across one shoulder.
Venturing down to the waters surface kangaroos and wallabies dip their noses into the cool water’s surface with exuberant enthusiasm. With alertness and senses all a keen they dart into the bush with the sound of the paddles steamers whistle as it rounded the bend. Cockatoos and parrots bounded into the sky above clouding the suns warm rays from the surface below. Creating a cacophony of sound, shattering the silence of the river. As the gentle thud of the paddle steamer’s engines rhythmically propels it down the river.
Sunshine shimmers upon the water’s surface like little diamonds fallen from the sky. The captain is in his wheelhouse navigating this treacherous river’s course. Standing majestic and strong against the passage of time the mighty river gum unfolded its branches in defiance of the powder blue sky illuminated above. Churning the waters veneer the paddles created turbulence thrashing the water’s surface. As the water’s of the mighty Murray River glide past on their ceaseless quest towards eternity.

Shattered Dreams
© By Lisa Richardson
The waters of life
Cascade like shattered dreams
Into rivers of crystal
My emotions take flight
As my soul soars towards the heavens
Carrying pain and regret
Far from their mortal existence
Hopes and dreams
No longer like a beacon before me
They scatter to the winds
Blowing furiously around me
I look towards the future
As l leave behind the past
Only to discover
A mirror image of
Shattered dreams

I Wonder is That You !!
© By Lisa Richardson
As a butterfly flutters across the sky
I wonder is that you
I see my shadow separate into two
I wonder is that you
As a rainbow arches its back against the heavens
I wonder is that you
When the morning dew kisses a rosebud
I wonder is that you
I watch as the summers sun settles to its slumber
I wonder is that you
I smile as your dolls dance to their masters serenade
I no longer wonder , I know its you.

I wrote this next one after seeing on the news a mother in Kosovo
push away her new born baby, saying she did not want it!
Heart break
© By Lisa Richardson
I will never know your name
I will never know the pain
Your mother has gone through
I will never know how it feels
I will never get to hold you
And say welcome to this world
There is a place upon this earth
Where heaven rules hell
You will never know what
Mummy and daddy means
You will never know how it feels
To have loving arms placed
About you to hold you in their embrace
But please know there's a loving place
Which may not be heaven
But certainly is heaven on earth
There's a heart halfway across this world
Who weeps for your future
Already lost
This heart will think of you now
She has seen you brought into this world
And knows the life you face
