In Memory of Buffy

(Photo of Buffy to be inserted shortly)

In 1996 Tony brought home a tiny puppy as a gift for me.

I ran down to the car and I saw this little bundle of fluff who was so very excited. (Buffy was a German Coollie). I carried Buffy back upstairs where she was to start her new life with us.

Along the way Buffy managed to get herself in all sorts of scrapes. She was such a full on little thing that one day she was running and just couldn't stop and ran head on into a parked car. It was an absolute classic.

Buffy was always playing real hard and she often smashed her gums, cut her chin, damaged her legs and limped - all because she had to live life to the full.

Then one day Buffy's brother joined our family (Marble) and Marble is a nipper and would chase Buffy and nip at her feet and tail. One day this got out of hand when Marble actually bit off the end of Buffy's tail by accident. You should have seen the sight when we saw her - she was covered in blood and so was everything else around her. It looked like a massacre had taken place.

We then proceeded to stop the bleeding and bandaged her up and then went out for a few hours and left Buffy in the kitchen. Upon our return home there was blood sprayed completely up the walls so we phoned the vets and they in all their wisdom asked us if it was necessary that we bring her down in the middle of the night. My reply was 'I think so considering there's blood sprayed all up the walls, all over the carpet' and then I think the vets actually realised that there really was a problem. Suffice to say after many weeks of bandaging Buffy's tail fixed.

Unfortunately Buffy's life was running short - we had no idea until it was too late that Buffy had inoperable terminal cancer in the chest. Our sweet little girl had lived life so much to the max that no one had any idea that a cancer had been growing inside her, probably from the day she was born.

The hardest thing I've ever had to do is let Buffy go. To say I was devastated is an understatement. Here was a girl full of life who within a week had grown so weak that she couldn't stand up.

Sometimes Buffy I still feel your presence. I remember how I felt your presence beside me the day I had to say goodbye to Amadeus, comforting me in my grief.

Often now when I think of Buffy and Amadeus I picture them playing together, chasing each other and kissing each other. They were the best of friends and maybe they were just meant to be together for eternity.

To lose two beautiful animals in one year was pure heartache which I hope never to have to go through again.

I will always remember you with fondness Buffy. I love you little one and always will.
