I produced three magazine titles for the TimesDaily. One bi-monthly, ShoalsWoman, one quarterly, Shoals Magazine, and one annual tourism out-of-market publication, Explore the Shoals.
I launched each of these publications; taking them from drawing board to reality.
My duties ranged from creating story budgets, assigning stories, managing freelancers, and scheduling and attending photo shoots, to designing and laying out pages (using Adobe InDesign), writing features, taking photos, editing content, making pdf files and uploading them to our printer using GoLive.
I created the ShoalsWoman of the Year recognition program and served as emcee for the 2006 presentation ceremony.
I worked on a variety of weekly advertorial stories, monthly advertorial special sections, and functioned as the editor/coordinator of our women's interest magazine.
As the Advertising Staff Writer I was responsible for 6 to 10 articles appearing in the run of the paper on a weekly basis.
Of these weekly stories, I wrote the Business Review and Dining Alternatives, which were tied to advertising programs.
I also wrote and designed a Homefront story, which appeared on the broad sheet front page of our Sunday Classified section twice a month. This Homefront feature localized stories of interest related to home, garden or automotive.
I was also involved in the planning of advertorial special sections and responsible for the content included from research to final draft.
I was involved with the creative development of new products, advertising campaigns, promotional campaigns, image campaigns and event planning. In addition to my planning, writing and design responsibilities, I took the required corresponding photos.
I won two New York Times Chairman Awards while working in the advertising and marketing departments at the TimesDaily and was part of a creative team that won more than a dozen Shoals Addy Awards.
My position required that I utilize a variety of PC and Mac programs on a daily basis.
