Chapter 11

After the show that night, the guys were all hanging out in the backstage area. Howie, Kevin, and Nick were engaged in some deep conversation while AJ was staring blankly at the wall. Brian looked up from what he was reading.

“Yo booooone...” Brian said, getting no response from AJ. He waved his hand in front of AJ’s face, then finally whacked AJ with Howie’s spatula Howie left lying around.

“What?!” AJ exclaimed. Brian rolled his eyes.

“I have only been calling you for the past ten minutes dude,” Brian said sarcastically.

“Well I’m sorry-” AJ started to say.

“Dude! We only have three shows left and then five weeks completely off!” Brian interrupted loudly, making Nick, Howie, and Kevin look over.

“Really?!” Nick exclaimed.

“Aw man, I’m gonna miss this tour,” Kevin said. AJ was secretly happy that everything would be over for at least a month.

“Tomorrow we have off, then we have three concerts in a row,” Brian said out loud, reading the schedule.

“That doesn’t seem right, it went by so quick,” AJ said.

“Maybe that’s because you were wasted for all the concerts,” Brian whispered, sort of hissing.

“I didn’t drink before concerts!” AJ lied.

“Don’t play games Bone, you think I can’t tell when you’re lit? I wasn’t born yesterday.”

“Shut up.” AJ got up and walked over to where they were supposed to exit. To his surprise, Alyssa was sitting cross-legged on the ground, staring out into space. He desperately wanted to go out and talk to her, to apologize for everything he’d done, but he didn’t know if he should. Finally he just opened the door.

“Alyssa?” AJ asked quietly. She turned around quickly, and when she saw AJ she got up and started walking. “Alyssa, wait,” AJ said, and ran up to her. He walked next to her for a while until she spoke.

“I can’t talk to you.”

“Alyssa, I wanted to apologize,” AJ said, and she kept walking.

“AJ I’m scared,” Alyssa said and turned around to face him. He saw she was almost in tears. He hugged her and she resisted at first. “AJ, that night in the hotel room...”

“I don’t remember anything about it, Lyss,” AJ said, “Brian had to tell me about it afterwards.”

“That’s why I’m so scared!” Alyssa cried. Her eyes filled with tears and she finally hugged him back. He stroked her hair lightly.

“I promised myself, Howie, and Brian I’d stop drinking, after they confronted me about it,” AJ said.

“When’s the last time you got drunk?” Alyssa asked.

“Uhh...early this morning.”

“AJ!” Alyssa pulled away.

“Alyssa, I kept my promise since then,” AJ said. “And I plan to still keep it.” He thought back to the fountain earlier that day, “I’m glad two people care about me.”

“Three.”

“Who else?”

“Me.” Alyssa made a small smile.

“Oh Alyssa I love you so much!” AJ said, scooping her up into his arms.

“I love you too!” Alyssa said. AJ kissed her and put her down. “Now AJ, I really don’t want you drinking anymore.”

“I won’t.”

“You promise?”

“I promise.” Alyssa reached up and kissed him, lightly at first, then more intense, They stood there alone making out for a couple of minutes when the door suddenly opened and Brian ran out, followed by the other guys. He turned around, making them all stop.

“Shh, don’t bother them, they’re making up,” Brian whispered.

“Aww, love,” Kevin said.

“They’re making LOVE in the PARKING LOT?!” Nick whispered loudly.

“Shh!” Brian said, and walked to the bus, everyone else following him.

A while later AJ walked onto the bus, grinning so big it looked like his face hurt. “What happened?” Brian asked. He had been talking to Nick while Howie and Kevin slept.

“Oh nothing...” AJ said, still smiling.

”You did NOT [expletive] her out there,” Nick said.

“Well, I wouldn’t call it [expletive]ing...”

“What happened then?”

“Doin’ it is a nicer term.”

“AJ!!” Brian and Nick exclaimed loudly, waking Kevin.

“Dude, it wasn’t me it was AJ,” Kevin said, half asleep. He yawned and layed back down as the others cracked up laughing.

“Ow, the pavement hurts,” Nick said.

“Oh, like you would know, Nick,” Brian retorted playfully. Nick threw a pillow at him.

“I’m just so glad she forgave me,” AJ said, still thinking about Alyssa.

“Where is she?” Nick asked.

“She had to be home at 12, and it is already half past midnight now,” AJ replied, and sighed.

“When the hell are we leaving?” Howie asked, yawning. Brian shrugged.

“I guess we’re spending the night here” Brian said, and climbed into his bunk.

“C’mon, AJ, get to bed,” Nick said, but AJ was already asleep.
