Chapter 9

AJ woke up to bright lights and loud noises. "Did I die and go to heaven?" he said out loud, to no one in particular.

"No, you'd go to hell," Brian said jokingly.

"Don't yell at me!" AJ exclaimed, covering his ears. Brian sighed.

"You got drunk again last night," he told AJ. AJ shook his head.

"No I didn't." Brian gave him a Look.

"Oh really? You wanna ask Alyssa that?"

"I haven't seen Alyssa since we broke up," AJ replied. Brian was surprised.

"AJ, you were dead wasted last night if you don't remember what you did..." Brian started to say. AJ interrupted him.

"What did I do?"

"Let's just say you won't be seeing Alyssa for a long, long time."

"Brian..."

"I don't think she ever wants to see you again."

"Brian! What happened?" AJ exclaimed, worried.

"You got violent, and pushed her down..." Brian started to say, and AJ stared at him, mouth gaping open.

"That's not true," AJ said as Brian finished.

"You can't drink anymore AJ."

"Why not?!"

"Cuz of episodes like last night!" Brian exclaimed.

"You can't tell me what to do."

"Yeah, I can,"Brian said. He thought to himself,

"It doesn't mean you'll listen..."

"I don't listen to my MOTHER, nevermind YOU," AJ said and rolled over. Brian sighed.

"I'll be back later, AJ," Brian said. He added, "We have a show later too."

"When I feel like crap?!" AJ exclaimed

"What do you think happens when you drink too much?!" Brian shot back.

"Don't scream at me, my head is killing me," AJ said, pulling the covers over his head. Brian walked out the door, looked back in for a sec, then shut the door. He kicked the wall and walked down the hallway, with his hands jammed in his pockets.

Brian sat alone in his room. He was supposed to be hanging out with the other guys, but he just didnt feel like it. He was worried about AJ. After a while of just sitting there, he heard a knock on his door.

“Come in,” he said loudly. The door swung open, and AJ stumbled in, cracking up laughing.

“Dya kno wut happen to tha uther guyzz?” AJ asked. He tried to walk to Brian but swerved into the wall.

“AJ!” Brian yelled as AJ fell to the floor. “I leave you alone for a couple frickin’ hours-” He stopped talking to help AJ up. AJ looked up at him and gulped hard.

“Ba-ba-battles,” he tried to say.

“What?” Brian asked. AJ took a bottle of whiskey out of his pocket and started drinking it. “AJ, why...” Brian said aloud and grabbed the bottle from him.

“Noe!” AJ screeched and leaned over to grab the bottle. He fell face-down on the floor.

“AJ I SWEAR!” Brian yelled and picked him up. “You’re such an asshole! What- what the-” Brian’s voice started to break and he tried not to cry, but he couldnt help it. Tears started trickling down his face.

“At the battle,” AJ said.

“AJ! SNAP OUT OF IT!” Brian screamed, knowing it wouldnt work. AJ sat on the bed.

“Sines y’all...CAM no out den ye kam awwww,” AJ said, half babbling. He opened his arms wide, trhying to to make his point.

“Dude, what are you doing to yourself?” Brian asked him. “I love you man and you have to stop drinking.” AJ got up at that point, tripped over his shoes, and fell again. Brian sighed and went to help him again, but when he turned AJ over he saw that AJ was out like a light. Brian then heard a knock at the door, so he wiped his eyes and opened the door.

“I heard screaming and-oh my God, Rok, what happened?” Howie said, all at once. Brian just looked at him.

“He-took a-it’s my fault-alone-” Brian couldn’t even go on without crying. Howie gave Brian a hug.

“What’s wrong? Tell me.”

“AJ! It’s AJ, D!” Brian exclaimed, and sat on a chair byt the door, wiping his eyes with the heel of his hand.

“What’s been going on with him lately?” Howie asked.

“I dont know...I found him cutting his [expletive]ing wrist one day, and when I turn around, he’s getting drunk everyday, he almost beat Alyssa who means more to him than his career does, he’s just basically scaring the shit out of me,” Brian said quickly, glad to get it out of him. ‘Wow, he must be upset, I never heard him swear like that,’ Howie thouight to himself.

“Where is he?” Howie asked. Brian pointed to where AJ was lying on the floor, barely breathing.

“He’s gonna kill himself one day, D,” BRian said.

“This shit is serious.” Howie knew something was going on, but he didn’t know just how serious it was. Until now, that is.
