SERMON: BLESSED MOM
(Expounding on test) God puts mom and blessed in the same catagory To be a mom is automatically to be blessed according to God! INTRODUCTION: LETTERS TO MOM Listen to what some children wrote to their mothers for Mother's Day. Angie, 8 years old, wrote: "Dear Mother, I'm going to make dinner for you on Mother's Day. It's going to be a surprise. P.S. I hope you like pizza & popcorn." Robert wrote: "I got you a turtle for Mother's Day. I hope you like the turtle better than the snake I got you last year." Eileen wrote: "Dear Mother, I wish Mother's Day wasn't always on Sunday. It would be better if it were on Monday so we wouldn't have to go to school." Little Diane wrote: "I hope you like the flowers I got you for Mother's Day. I picked them myself when Mr. Smith wasn't looking." And how about this one from Carol? "Dear Mother, Here are two aspirins. Have a happy Mother's Day!" -P-R-E-S-E-N-T-A-T-I-O-N- (baskets/flowers/coffee-tea-treat?) Most of you are familiar with the Calvin & Hobbes comic strip. Well, on one Mother’s Day, Calvin is pictured standing by his mother’s bed. "Hey, Mom! Wake up. I made you a Mother’s Day card." "My, how sweet of you." she says. "I did it all by myself. Go ahead & read it." She begins to read: "I was going to buy a card with hearts of pink & red. But then I thought I’d rather spend the money on me instead. It’s awfully hard to buy things when one’s allowance is so small. So I guess you’re pretty lucky I got you anything at all. Happy Mother’s Day. There, I’ve said it. Now I’m done. So how about getting out of bed & fixing breakfast for your son”Signed, "Calvin." "I’m deeply moved." said his mother. He adds "Notice the part about my allowance?" TRANSITIONAL-STATEMENT: Well, some of you may feel like Calvin’s mother this morning, wondering if anybody’s going to say, "Thank you, Mom, for all the good stuff you do." Being a mother is a tough job & we recognize & honor that today. "Thank you, Mom, for all the good stuff you do." 1.DEFINED Socializing 2 Homo-Sapiens Tony Campolo says that his wife is a brilliant woman. She has a PHD & is capable of pursuing a very profitable career. But she elected to stay home with her children when they were young. Her decision didn't bother her at all except when other women would ask, "What do you do?" She would answer, "I'm a homemaker. I stay home & take care of my children & my husband." They would usually respond with "Oh" & then ignore her from then on. So Mrs. Campolo came up with this response when she was asked what she did: "I'm socializing two Homo-sapiens in Judeo-Christian values so they'll appropriate the eschatological values of utopia. What do you do?" They would often blurt out "I'm a doctor" or "I'm a lawyer" & then wander off with a dazed look in their eyes. Ladies, please be it reminded and understood that the CALLING of motherhood needs no explanation nor defence. The Devil mocks what is GOOD, so does his world. Pr 30:17 The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it. Mom is not to be mocked! God honors what is good and so values you! You do’nt need a PhD or certain job to have reason, mom is the best description you can attain!! For what GOD wants you to be, is who you BEST are. You are defined not by society nor your husband nor your children or friends. You are defined by God, your CREATOR! "Thank you, Mom, for all the good stuff you do." 2.APPRECIATION A Day In The Life Of Mom One afternoon a man came home from work to find total mayhem in his house. His three children were outside, still in their pajamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn all around the front yard. The door of his wife's car was open, as was the front door to the house. Proceeding into the entry, he found an even bigger mess. A lamp had been knocked over, and the throw rug was wadded on the wall. In the front room, the TV was loudly blaring a cartoon channel, and the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing. In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on the counter, dog food was spilled on the floor, a broken glass lay under the table, and a small pile of sand was spread by the back door. - He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles and piles of clothes, looking for his wife. He was worried she may be ill, or that something serious had happened. He found her lounging in the bedroom, still curled in the bed in her pajamas, reading a novel. She looked up at him, smiled, and asked how his day went. He looked at her bewildered and asked, "What happened here today?" She again smiled and answered, "You know every day when you come home from work & ask me what in the world did I do today?" "Yes" was his awed reply. "This is it." Husbands/Dads and anyone who has not walked in mom’s shoes, appreciate and value mom’s WORK! What you DON”T see are the results of what she does! It goes well beyond the house. . . Pr 30:11 There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother. 12 There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness. 13 There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up. 14 There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men. It goes well beyond the house to the society that God set up, in order to keep order and bring God’s blessing to this world. Chaos is not what we want to remind us to appreciate Order. Don’t ever take Moms for granted! "Thank you, Mom, for all the good stuff you do." 3.MINISTRY-THE POINT Mom’s Translation There is a story about four preachers discussing the merits of the various translations of the Bible. One liked the King James Version best because of its simple, beautiful English. Another liked the American Revised Version best because it was closer to the original Hebrew and Greek. Still another liked a contemporary version because of its up-to-date vocabulary. The fourth minister was silent for a moment, then said, "I like my mother's translation best." Surprised, the other three men said they didn't know his mother had translated the Bible. "Yes," he replied. "She translated it into life, and it was the most convincing translation I ever saw." Need any more be said? Your pastorsal investment in your own home church will be that much more productive in your child’s life, the more you focus and train them! Lu 12:48 . . .For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom have committed much, of him they will ask the more. You’ve been given much - children, your required much - to raise them in the fear and instruction of the Lord. Thats no small calling. Its a calling after God’s own heart! - Isa 65:23 They shall not labour in vain, nor bring forth for trouble; for they are the seed of the blessed of the LORD, and their offspring with them. Isa 44:3 For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring: Mal 2:15 ...And why? That he might seek a godly seed... Mom remember and be encouraged that God seeks after the care of your children at least as much as you do! There His Kids too and His heart is same as yours! TEXT: Genesis 17:16 And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother . . .” "Thank you, Mom, for all the good stuff you do." {Moms stand up, all together repeat & Pray...}
