A New Day
Part 4 in the Sav & Mindee Series

A New Day

Chapter 1

This story is a continuation of ‘But I Want To’, ‘I Left My Heart in San Francisco’ and ‘Can’t Say Goodbye’, short Sav stories. Again, it is completely fictional and is based upon songs, speeches and experiences that do not belong to me. As a matter of fact, there are many items in this story that are works of various artists. If you would like information on any of the songs, please contact me at Kimmi@abshire.org and I’ll be happy to pass it along. Enjoy!!

The reporters patiently waited as Todd scanned the room. Sav sat in the back row with Mindee’s parents and waited for the band to enter the room. As they did, flash bulbs went off and the hum of conversation ceased. As usual, Mindee stood front and center while the rest of the band stood behind her, supporting her.

She smiled as she stepped up to speak. “On several occasions this past year, I’ve stopped dead in my tracks, heart pounding, tears welling up, asking myself why I am so blessed. I’ve gotten to do what I’ve always dreamed of doing. I have the most supportive husband, friends, parents and family in the world,” she looked to the back of the room to smile at Sav.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank our fans who bought our albums, and most of all the ones who came to the shows arm in arm with their friends singin’ every word. It reminds me of me, my sister and all our friends goin’ to see a concert when we were younger. You allow me to enjoy what I do more than you’ll ever know.

“I have been able to share this incredible dream with five men for whom I have mountains of respect and love. Mike, Charlie, Lance, Trey and Randy. I love it when we laugh hysterically at a joke no one else in the room thinks is funny, and that our ‘time off’ is usually spent with us together at some beach, club, or casino,” she stopped to listen to the guys behind her laugh. “When the very things that tear others apart only bring us closer together, you know we have something incredible. I love y’all.”

“With that,” Charlie stepped up. “We have made a band decision to take a very long, well-deserved break. It’s extremely hard in this business to concentrate on home and families and even more so when you’ve been in the studio and tourin’ for the past four and a half years, like we have.”

Randy took over, “We want to sit back and enjoy a little of our success for a while.”

Mindee couldn’t believe that the guys were stepping up for her. It’s true; they did hold a band meeting and agreed that it was a great idea to take a break. But this was mainly for her. And her family.

“Get married, have babies… you know, the important things,” Trey winked at her.

“Lance? Mike?” Mindee asked if they had anything to add.

“Hi, Mom,” Lance waved around the room as the rest sniggered.

“The floor is open for five minutes,” Todd spoke.

“Mindee! Does this mean you and the hubby are starting a family?” the reporter for Country Music Magazine asked.

She couldn’t help but smile. “We had a very happy honeymoon.”

“Will you ever come back, or is this the end?”

“She better come back, I’ve got three mouths to feed!” Randy laughed as the rest followed.

“I’m sure I will,” she spoke through the giggles.

“What about the rumor of you working again with Mutt Lange?”

“I’m helpin’ out a little bit on Shania’s next album. Just a little writing and maybe a backup vocal or two. No biggie.”

“Will we hear you on any Def Leppard material in the future?”

“Not unless the boys go Country, and I very highly doubt that,” she laughed as she looked to the back of the room.

“No!” Sav grunted.

“See, got two sources on that one!” Charlie smiled.

After the press conference, they had dinner with everyone and then returned to their hotel. On their way in, they ran into Phil, Joe and Vivian in the lobby.

“Just the chap we were lookin’ for!” Joe laughed.

“We’re goin’ out, if you know what I mean,” Phil elbowed him.

“The girls are gonna go to the pictures,” Vivian offered Mindee.

“I think I’m just gonna stay in. Long day,” she held onto Sav’s hand.

“Yeah, I’ll pass,” he nodded.

“But we’re going out, out,” Joe nodded toward the street.

“And I’m stayin’ in, in with the wife t’night. ‘Ave fun at the strip bar,” he smiled as he pulled Mindee to the elevators.

“Things will definitely change in a few months, that’s for sure,” Vivian laughed as they headed out the door.

“You sorry you married me?” she whispered as they lay in bed after making love.

“Never in a million years,” he ran his fingers through her hair. “You?”

“I’ll tell you when I’m fat with swollen ankles,” she giggled.

“It won’t be that bad. I think you’ll be even more beautiful than you already are.”

“How?” she looked up at him.

“Because you’re carrying my child,” he kissed her. “And I love you.”

“I love you too,” she closed her eyes as she snuggled closer to him.

A New Day

Chapter 2

“We’re on, lads!” Malvin yelled out.

“Have a good show,” Mindee smiled as Sav slung his guitar strap around his shoulder.

“Love you,” he kissed her quickly, and then knelt down to kiss her belly.

She waved as he ran off to the stage.

Mindee watched as they performed the first few songs. Her legs began to cramp, so she decided to sit in the back for a while. There, she remained for most of the show. Right before the encore, she stood to go back to the dressing room, but stopped when she felt a gush of warmth between her legs.

“Mindee?” Bobbie noticed the look on her face. “Are you okay?”

“Oh, no!” she cried as she ran toward the exit to the stage.

Anita’s eyes widened as the wives looked at one another.

“Don’t draw any attention to yourselves,” Julie looked around as they slowly followed her.

Phil looked up and noticed that all of the wives had left early. He raised his eyebrows and nodded at Sav. Sav shrugged his shoulders and continued to play.

“Where are the girls?” Joe asked before wiping his face off.

“Dressing room,” Malvin looked at Sav as he handed him a towel. “Mindee ran off and they followed.”

“Mornin’ sickness?” Vivian chuckled.

The worried look on Malvin’s face said it all. He dropped his guitar and ran off to find his wife. He stopped when he found the other wives, huddled around the bathroom, crying. When they saw him, they all backed away.

He closed his eyes as he stopped and listened at the door. There, he heard the echoed sobs of his wife. “No,” he whispered as he rested his head on the door. “Mindee? Sweetheart?”

She opened the door and looked up at him, her face soaked with tears. “I’m sorry,” she whispered.

“Baby,” his voice cracked as he took her into his arms. “It’s not your fault.”

“Malvin can take you to the hospital now,” Bobbie whispered to Sav as she patted Mindee’s back.

He nodded before kissing her forehead. “C’mon.”

A few days later, Mindee sat on the bus with her knees in her chest and her face buried in her arms. Sav sat beside her and rubbed her back as they both mourned the loss of their child.

Joe hopped on and stopped in front of them. “Got your favorite, Decaf Mocha Chino,” he held a Starbuck’s cup out for her.

She looked up and smiled at him before wiping her cheeks with the sleeves of her sweatshirt. “Thanks, Joe.”

“You up to shoppin’ with the girls t’night?”

“Uh… maybe,” she nodded.

“Do whatever ya feel like,” Sav whispered to her.

“Interview’s here,” Malvin stood at the front of the bus.

“Go on,” Mindee patted his hand. “I’ll be fine.”

“Love you,” he kissed her before following Joe off.

“You too,” she watched him leave.

“Let me start off by congratulating you,” the man smiled at Sav. “I hear you’re to be a father soon.”

He turned away from the interviewer and looked at Joe. “Excuse me,” he stood up and left.

Joe closed his eyes and let out a deep breath. “They lost the baby a few nights ago.”

“Oh, God. I didn’t know,” he felt terrible.

“It’s not your fault.”

A New Day

Chapter 3

“Hi, Mama,” Mindee sighed as she spoke on the phone.

“So? What did you find out?”

“The hospital we went to didn’t do any tests, so they don’t know what happened. It could’ve been anything. Apparently my age isn’t helpin’ matters.”

“That’s hogwash. Your Granny was 40 when she had me and we’re all fine.”

“I know,” she smiled.

“You gonna try again?”

“I think so. I’m kinda gun-shy at the moment, though. I can honestly say that I never wanna go through this again.”

“And Rick?”

“He’s bein’ real strong for me right now. Between this and tourin’, though… he’s exhausted.”

“You poor things. You both need a break.”

“Well, unfortunately the tour just started. We’ve got a long time to go before we get another break.”

“You wanna come stay with us a while?”

“Nah. We haven’t been apart since last Christmas, ya know?”

“I know, but I thought I’d ask.”

“Well, thanks for askin’. I love you.”

“I know, Mindee Sue, I love you too.”

Mindee was just about to doze off when she heard a thump from the bunk below them. She then felt Sav’s hand as he twirled a strand of her hair around his finger.

“Joe and Bobbie keepin’ you awake?” she whispered before kissing his chest.

“She’s leavin’ in the mornin’. Had enough of tourin’ to last a while, I guess.”

“Geeze, this is like a vacation for me,” she giggled.

He kissed her forehead and pulled her tightly against him. “How are you?”

“I’m better,” she nodded. “Everything happens for a reason, I guess. I just wish I knew what this one was.”

“My Dad always said that God only gives you what he knows you can handle.”

“My Dad says that too,” she smiled. “Thank you.”

“For what?”

“For bein’ you. I don’t know what I’d do without you,” she sniffed. “I love you so much.”

“I know, baby,” he kissed her.

Joe growled when he heard a thump from the bunk above him. “Aye, keep it down!” he laughed as he kicked the bottom.

Mutt went through his mail and jumped when he saw a package from Mindee. He tore it open and ran into the house to play the demo she had sent to him.

Have you ever been in love… You could touch the moonlight… When your heart is shooting starts… You’re holding heaven in your arms… Have you ever been in love… Have you ever walked on the air… Ever felt like you were dreamin’… When you never thought it could… But it really feels that good… Have you ever been in love… So in love… Have you ever been in love… You could touch the moonlight… When your heart is shooting starts… You’re holding heaven in your arms… Have you ever been in love… The time I spent waiting for something… That was heaven sent… When you find it don’t let go… I know… Have you ever said a prayer… And found that it was answered… All my hope has been restored… I ain’t lookin’ anymore… Some place that you ain’t leavin’… Somewhere you gotta stay… When you finally find the meanin’… Have you ever felt this way… The time I spent waiting for something… That was heaven sent… When you find it don’t let go… I know… Have you ever been in love… You could touch the moonlight… You can even reach the stars… Doesn’t matter near of far… Have you ever been in love… Have you ever been in love… So in love…

“Yes!” he yelled into the house. “Retire my ass! She’s back!”

A New Day

Chapter 4

“Slow down, Mutt. I sent it to you for you to use,” Mindee sat back against the bleachers and watched as the guys played a game of soccer.

“I’ll use it, when you sing it.”

“I’m not makin’ an album, so what good will it do? Let Shania have it if you like it so much.”

“Since when do you just give away songs, Min?”

“Uh… now?” she dropped the phone to clap her hands together. “Wooooh! Nice shot!” she yelled as Joe ran back from scoring a goal. “Sorry,” she resumed her conversation.

“And what if I have a song for a soundtrack?”

“That’s… a possibility. A love song?”

“Kinda. Let me finish it up before I send it to you.”

“Okay. I won’t promise you anything, though.”

“Good enough. Later, Min.”

“Bye,” she smiled as she turned her phone off and sat it down beside her.

“Mum?” Sav walked up and took a towel from her to wipe the sweat from his face.

“Mutt.”

“He called you?” he raised his eyebrows.

“Has a song he wants me to look at. I told him not to hold his breath.”

He chuckled as he kissed her.

“Ew! You’re sweaty!” she squealed as he pulled her into his arms.

A few nights later, Sav stepped to the side of the stage to grab a bottle of water. “Where’s Min?” he asked Lauren.

“She stayed on the bus, said she didn’t feel well.”

He looked confused. “Thanks.”

After the show, he took a quick shower and skipped out on the meet ‘n greet to go check on her. He stepped onto the bus and heard sobbing from the back.

“Mindee?” he quickened the pace as he reached her.

She was sitting on the couch with her face in her hands, crying.

“Honey, what’s wrong?” he dropped to his knees.

She immediately stopped crying and looked up at him. Then, without saying a word, she held the positive pregnancy test up for him to see.

He smiled as he pulled her into his arms. “It’s gonna work this time, Min. Everything’s gonna be alright.”

“God, I hope so,” she sniffed. “I think I’m gonna take my Mama up on her offer and go to Mississippi for a while.”

“Really?”

“Yeah, just sit around. No traveling… maybe it’ll help.”

“Then I think that’s a great idea,” he kissed her.

A few weeks later, Mindee made her nightly call to check in.

“How are you feelin’,” Sav sat back in the chair and closed his eyes.

“Really good. I’m sure that this time’s gonna be different. It just feels so… right, you know?”

“Yeah,” he smiled. “I miss you.”

“You too. If it keeps goin’ like this, I’ll come back very soon.”

“It all sounds like great news to me.”

“I’ll let you go, then. Talk to you tomorrow.”

“Love you.”

“Love you,” she hung up and walked into her mother’s kitchen to see a huge Cajun boil awaiting her. “Wow!” she took her seat next to her father.

“Eat up, little Mama!” her father grinned as they passed around the crawfish, shrimp, mussels, potatoes and corn.

Mindee ate until she absolutely could not move.

“Dessert?” her mother asked.

“Hold that thought, I gotta pee,” she giggled as she dashed off to the bathroom.

Many minutes passed by as they waited. She finally returned with tears streaming down her cheeks.

“Daddy, can you call Rick while Mama takes me to the doctor please?”

“Oh, sweetie,” her father held her.

“Come on, sugar,” her mother helped her out the door.

A New Day

Chapter 5

‘Yeah?” Sav quickly answered the phone.

“Apparently, my hormone levels didn’t change like they’re supposed to.”

“What does that mean?”

“I’m not exactly sure. I don’t think I heard half of what he said,” she sniffed. “I’m waitin’ right now to schedule another D&C for tomorrow.”

“Say the word and I’m there, Min.”

“I need you,” she tried the best she could not to break down.

“Okay, the Savages ‘aven’t missed a Sunday brunch in weeks. What’s up?” Phil looked around the restaurant.

“I believe they went to church this mornin’,” Joe nodded.

“Oh,” he raised his eyebrows. “Guess that makes us the heathens of the bunch then?”

“No, just you,” Rick laughed as Vivian followed.

“Should we tell them?” Mindee asked as they walked back to the hotel.

“That’s your decision, luv. They’re probably pretty suspicious by now, anyway.”

She sighed as they reached the doors.

“Hi! How was church?” Joe asked.

“Boring, as usual,” Mindee smiled as they took their seats.

“So what’s up with you two?” Rick asked. “You’ve become hermits.”

“Yeah, you pregnant or somethin’?” Vivian grinned.

Mindee’s face dropped as Sav flinched. “Not anymore.”

“That’s the reason you left?” Joe’s eyes widened as he looked at Mindee.

“And now she’s back,” Sav suddenly wished everyone would stop talking.

“Oh,” was all that was said.

“Do they know why?” Phil finally asked.

“There’s somethin’ wrong with me,” Mindee sighed.

“Hey,” Sav whispered as he took her hand and kissed her cheek. “It’s fixable.”

She rolled her eyes. “Have a nice brunch,” she stood and quickly walked away.

“See you at the busses,” Sav hesitated before walking after her.

Phil sighed as he pushed his plate away. “This is so completely uncool.”

“Two babies in less than a year,” Joe starred at the middle of the table. “That’s why I’m never havin’ kids.”

“Pussy,” Vivian smiled as the others laughed.

“Thank God, that was getting entirely too serious,” Rick reached for an apple.

Mindee sat on the bus and went through mail. She stopped when she reached a box and sighed. Mutt’s demo. She opened a letter and read.

“For a new Disney movie that’s going to be about all mothers around the world,” she looked up at Sav before popping the cassette into a player.

“Mamma you gave life to me… Turned a baby into a lady…” she immediately broke out into laughter and turned the player off.

“He could have a least had Shania sing, right?”

“Turn it back on!” he chuckled.

“And mamma all you had to offer… Was a promise of a lifetime of love… Now I know there is no other… Love like a mother’s… Love for her child… I know that love so complete… Someday must leave… Must say goodbye…” Mindee once again stopped the tape.

“If you wanna listen to it, then go ahead. I can’t,” she pushed the letter away and walked toward the front of the bus.

A New Day

Chapter 6

“Okay, boys! I’m cookin’ t’night, so be back by 7:00!” Mindee yelled out into the hallway as they left for interviews.

“Cookin’?” Phil stuck his head in.

“Red beans, rice and gumbo!” she smiled.

“Uh…”

Sav pulled him along as he walked out into the hall. “Love you!”

“Have a good day!” she called after him.

“Sav,” Phil sputtered.

“Just… appease her, alright?” he whispered. “At the very least pretend like you’re eatin’.”

“Why?” Vivian stepped onto the elevator with them.

“She’s ‘ad another round of hormone injections,” he sighed as the doors closed. “And I’m sure as hell not gonna piss ‘er off.”

“What’s the fun?” Joe waited in the lobby as they piled off the elevator.

“Gumbo night,” Phil growled.

“Again?” he looked at Sav. “If you remember correctly, I let ‘er cook for me last Wednesday.”

“So?”

“I should be able to be excused.”

“C’mon, Joe. Don’t you like me wife’s cookin’?” he smirked.

“That’s a bloody trick question, ain’t it?”

Everyone crammed into their suite later that night. “Don’t worry, fellas. I made vegetarian too,” she winked at Phil and Rick.

“Thanks, Min,” Phil grinned at her as he poured a bowl full. “Um… Min? What exactly is in ‘ere?”

“Family secret,” she passed around the beans and rice.

Rick made a gurgling sound as he reached for his water.

“You alright, mate?” Joe’s eyes widened.

“Hot,” he coughed.

“Just blow on it, sugar!” Mindee laughed.

“I think it’s a bit too spicy for ‘im, luv,” Sav smiled at her.

“Oh,” she went to the refrigerator and poured a glass of milk for him.

“Mindee, darlin’. You’ve worked so hard on dinner, why don’t you sit down and eat. We’ll take it from ‘ere,” Joe took over.

“Thanks Joe,” she grinned.

“No sweet, thank you,” he kissed her cheek.

A New Day

Chapter 7

“I’ve got a surprise for you,” Sav walked into their hotel room and plopped down onto the bed.

“What?’ Mindee looked up from watching the television.

“We’ve got a break comin’ up.”

“Yeah, like three days,” she smiled.

“Long enough to take a trip. For our anniversary,” he rubbed his nose against hers.

She clicked the television off and threw the remote onto the nightstand. “I like the way you think.”

“You’ll like it even more when I tell you where we’re goin’…” he sang before kissing her.

“Lemme guess, San Francisco?”

“How’d you know?” he frowned as he looked up.

“You are just that predictable,” she giggled. “But I love it, thank you.”

“We’ve always ‘ad… fond memories there,” he grinned.

“Oh, yeah,” she ran her fingers through his hair. “Maybe it’ll bring us good luck.”

“Exactly what I was thinking,” he reached over to turn the light off.

Months went by, and nothing. The tour wrapped up and everyone went their separate ways to the places they call home.

Mindee walked into the house and looked around. It was so big. Plenty of room for children to run around and play. She sighed as she walked to their room and began to unpack.

“Maybe we should go ahead and look into the adoption thing?” she spoke softly while hanging a dress up.

“That’s completely up to you. We can keep tryin’.”

“We’ve been tryin’ for a year, Rick.”

“We’re gonna ‘ave a baby, Min. I know in my heart that this is it. We’ve just gotta be patient.”

“What did we do last time that was different?”

“Um… nothin’ that I can think of.”

“We did it on the bus,” she huffed.

“We ‘ave this time too,” he chuckled.

“Hmm… maybe we should do it right now.”

He looked around the bed and began to push suitcases aside, “I’m game.”

Later that night, he rolled over to wrap his arm around her and felt her… legs? He opened his eyes to see that she was asleep with her legs up, resting on the wall. He couldn’t help but laugh.

“I love you,” he whispered before kissing her and going back to sleep.

A New Day

Chapter 8

Sav took a deep breath as they stepped off of the elevator while holding Mindee’s hand. She walked up to the reception area and checked in. “Mindee Thompson-Savage.”

“To see?” the nurse asked.

“Dr. Dykes.”

“Which one? The OB or the Fertility Specialist?”

“The specialist,” she nodded.

“Thank you, take a seat and we’ll call you.”

She looked around the room and sighed. Every other woman in there was pregnant. She looked up at Sav and smiled as he kissed her forehead.

“Mrs. Savage?”

“Hello, I’m Damon Dykes,” the doctor introduced himself.

“Rick Savage,” he shook his hand.

“Mindee,” she smiled nervously.

“I’ve taken a look at the records, and I’ve called the doctors you’ve seen. I agree with the hormone therapy you’re on, but it concerns me that you haven’t conceived in the last year.”

“So what do we do?”

“I’d like to run a few simple tests before we decide on a course of action,” he smiled at them. “Once you’re finished with the lab, come back here and we’ll do an exam.”

Sav raised his eyebrows and sighed.

Again, they rode in the elevator.

“You all right?” he watched as she rested her head against the wall.

“Between the elevator, the blood and the extremely happy thought of another pelvic exam, I’m a little queasy.”

“I’ll take you out for ice cream when we’re done.”

“I’ll hold you to it,” she smiled.

They waited for what seemed like forever.  Finally, the doctor walked in.

“Well Savages, looks like our meeting will be brief. My nurses are going to make your next appointment for my wife.”

“Your wife?” Mindee’s eyes widened.

“Yes, she’s an obstetrician. She’ll be taking care of you during your pregnancy.”

“You mean…” Sav face lit.

“You’re hormone levels look really good, and you’re not due for another injection for a while. She’ll probably do a sonogram and make sure everything’s fine on your next appointment. Until then, do nothing and think happy thoughts. You’re having a baby!”

A New Day

Chapter 9

Mindee wrapped her shawl tightly around her as she followed Sav into Joe’s house.

“We’re here!” Sav yelled out.

“Almost ready!” Bobbie called down as Joe flew down the stairs.

“You look great, Min! Lemme see!” he reached for her shawl.

“Joe, that’s not…” her eyes widened as he pulled it away to get a look at her dress. Maybe he wouldn’t notice that she had put on a few tiny pounds…

“Wow,” Joe winked at Sav. “She definitely looks good in blue.”

“She looks good in anythin’,” he grinned. “Or nothin’ at all.”

“Stop it!” she slapped his arm.

“Ready!” Bobbie adjusted her blouse while trotting down the steps, but stopped when she saw Mindee. “Oh my God! How far along are you?” she squealed as she ran to hug her.

“Four months,” Mindee smiled at her.

“Huh?” Joe looked up at Sav.

“Look at that little tummy,” Bobbie held her hand up to Mindee’s belly.

“We’re havin’ a baby, mate,” Sav slapped Joe’s shoulder.

“Four months? When were you gonna tell us?” he huffed.

“When we were ready,” he nodded.

“Guess I can’t keep it a secret much longer, can I?” Mindee giggled as she patted her tummy.

“I can’t believe I didn’t notice,” he grumbled.

“It’s okay, Joe. You don’t have to know everything all the time,” Mindee kissed his cheek before walking out to the car.

“Humph!” he grabbed Bobbie’s hand and followed.

Mindee walked around the house and tried to find something to do. She was tired of sitting. She knew the baby needed for her to rest, but this was crazy.

“Oh no, you’re thinkin’,” Sav walked into the kitchen and placed his cup in the sink.

“It’s that obvious?” she laughed.

“You’re bored,” he wrapped his arms around her. “What can we do ‘bout that?”

“Hmmmm… take a walk?”

“Nope,” he kissed her.

“Not even down to the beach?”

“Think again.”

“Work?”

“I don’t see why not,” he shrugged his shoulders. “Whatcha wanna work on?”

“I thought about maybe taking another look at that song Mutt sent.”

“I don’t want it to upset you,” he rubbed her belly. “Either of you.”

“It won’t,” she grinned. “I promise, I’m just gonna listen to it.”

“Then I’m gonna watch the tele.”

“You do that,” she kissed him before heading toward the stairs.

“Mamma… You gave life to me… Turned a baby into a lady… And mamma… All you had to offer… Was a promise of a lifetime of love… Now I know there is no other… Love like a mother’s… Love for her child… I know that love so complete… Someday must leave… Must say goodbye… “

Sav turned the volume of the television down and listened as Mindee began to sing. “Goodbye’s the saddest word I’ll ever hear… Goodbye’s the last time I will hold you near… Someday you’ll say that word and I will cry… It’ll break my heart to hear you say goodbye…” He closed his eyes and lay back onto the sofa. “Mamma you gave love to me… Turned a young one into a woman… And mamma all I ever needed… Was a guarantee of you loving me…”

He reached for the phone and dialed. “Aye, Mutt. What’s the deadline for that soundtrack? ‘Cause I’m listening to ‘er sing it right now, and it’s fabulous. Thanks mate,” he hung up and smiled.

A New Day

Chapter 10

Mindee took her place on the set and waited. She never in a million years imagined that she’d be shooting a music video in all her 8-month pregnant glory.

“Alright, Min. Playback… now!”

“’Cause I know… There is no other… Love like a Mother’s… Love for her child…”

Sav watched from behind the cameras, smiling the entire time. She was so beautiful; he couldn’t take his eyes off her.

“And when you need me, I’ll be there for you always… I’ll be there your whole life through… I’ll be there this I promise you… Mamma… I’ll be your beacon through the darkest night… I’ll be the wings that guide your broken flight… I’ll be your shelter through the raging storm… And I will love you ‘till forever comes…”

The passion in her voice and actions sent chills up Mutt’s spine. He smiled and nodded at Sav.

“’Til we meet again… Until then… Goodbye…”

“That’s a wrap! Great job, Min!”

“Thanks, Dave,” her eyes widened as she quickly reached for her side.

“Perfect video, Min,” Mutt clapped his hands together. “It’s gonna rock!”

“Thanks,” she joined them.

“You okay?” Sav grabbed her arm.

“I think it’s those false labor thingies. I just need to get some rest,” she waved it off.

“Then we’ll get you to the hotel,” he took her hand.

No soon had they stepped through the door to the hotel, Mindee froze.

“Wh…” Sav looked at her feet to see a puddle.

“My water just broke!” she spoke frantically.

“Okay, just relax,” he kissed her. “I’ll call a taxi…”

“It’s too soon!”

“Deep breaths, baby,” he looked at her. “We’ll get to a hospital, okay?” he ran out to flag down a taxi. “Please be okay,” he looked up to the sky. “Please keep them safe.”

A New Day

Chapter 11

“Lungs look mature… We’re breech…” Mindee was in too much pain to focus on what the doctor was saying.

“Do what you ‘ave to do,” Sav watched with worried eyes.

“You can come in,” the nurse nodded as she handed him surgical scrubs.

“Min, I’ll see you in the operating room, okay?” he rubbed her cheek.

“Don’t leave me,” she reached for him.

“I’ll be right here, luv. I just need to change, right?”

“Rick!” she held her hand out as he walked to the restroom.

“He’ll be right back, sweetheart,” the nurse took over. “Now let’s get your spinal started, shall we?”

The next thing she knew, she was looking up from flat on her back.

“See? I’m back!” he kissed her.

“I’m scared,” she cried.

“Just look at me, then,” he smiled.

“Making the cut…” the doctor spoke from beyond a sheet.

“Can you see anything?”

“I think the question is do I want to?” he laughed nervously.

“Here we go!”

Sav looked up in time to see his son pulled free from his mother. His eyes instantly welled with tears. His cries filled the room as Mindee began to cry.

“Here’s your son,” the doctor held him over the sheet. “They’re just going to take him to the nursery and examine him and then you’ll get to hold him.”

“He’s perfect, Min,” he kissed her.

“Is he okay?” she looked around.

“Perfect,” he cried.

Mindee woke up later that night to see her husband sitting in a chair in the corner, their new little boy in his arms.

“We’ve been waitin’ for you to wake up,” he smiled as he quickly walked over to her.

She held her arms out as he handed the tiny little bundle to her.

“Hi,” she smiled with tears in her eyes as Sav kissed her cheek. “He’s so precious.”

“So tiny,” he sniffed.

She spoke softly to the baby. “I’ve been waitin’ a long time for you, little boy.”

“We still ‘aven’t decided on a name, ya know.”

“We had all girl names picked out,” she smiled.

“And he is definitely NOT a girl,” he nodded.

“Hmmm… you know, we met in Austin.”

“We did,” he grinned. “Austin Savage. Not bad.”

“Not bad at all,” she looked down at her son. “So, little Austin. Welcome to the family.”

A New Day

Chapter 12

The reporters patiently waited as Todd scanned the room. Sav sat in the back row with Austin and waited for the band to enter the room. As they did, flash bulbs went off and the hum of conversation ceased. As usual, Mindee stood front and center while the rest of the band stood behind her, supporting her.

She smiled as she stepped up to speak. “Well, we’re back. It’s been a while, but we have come to a decision about our future,” she took a deep breath. “We are going to go back into the studio and record a new album. However, there will not be a tour to follow,” she waited, as everyone gasped is surprise.

“With that,” Charlie stepped up. “We have made a band decision to take accept a gig in Las Vegas. We have signed a three year contract and will be playing there three days a week.”

Randy took over, “We want to sit back and enjoy our families for a while.”

Mindee couldn’t believe that the guys were stepping up for her. It’s true; they did hold a band meeting and agreed that it was a great idea to do this. But this was mainly for her. And her family.

“Lance? Mike? Trey?” Mindee asked if they had anything to add.

“Hi, Dad,” Lance waved around the room as the rest sniggered.

“The floor is open for five minutes,” Todd spoke.

“Mindee! Congratulations on the arrival of your son,” the reporter for Country Music Magazine asked. “Are their any plans for another child during this stint in Vegas?”

She couldn’t help but smile. “He’s only four months old, Larry. Give me a chance to recuperate first.”

“Will you ever come back to touring, or is this the end?”

“You kiddin’? We could retire from what we’re makin’ in Vegas!” Randy laughed as the rest followed.

“I’m sure we will, eventually,” she spoke through the giggles.

After the press conference, they had dinner with everyone and then returned to their hotel. On their way in, they ran into Phil, Joe and Vivian in the lobby.

“Just the chap we were lookin’ for!” Phil laughed.

“We’re goin’ out, if you know what I mean,” Joe elbowed him.

“The girls are gonna go to the pictures,” Vivian offered Mindee.

“I think I’m just gonna stay in. Long day,” she spoke softly as she held little Austin in her arms.

“Yeah, I’ll pass,” he nodded.

“But we’re going out, out,” Joe nodded toward the street.

“And I’m stayin’ in, in with the family t’night. ‘Ave fun at the strip bar,” he smiled as he pulled Mindee to the elevators.

“Things have definitely changed, that’s for sure,” Vivian laughed as they headed toward the doors. “And just wait ‘til they ‘ave the second one.”

“They’re happy. Leave ‘em be,” Phil winked before they walked out into the night.
