-This is the page where the Windows Tips and Tricks will be started. I will break up each FAQ into seperate categories each dealing with a specific part to the system. I will mainly deal with Windows 98 SE and Windows XP. Soon I will be dealing with Windows ME. The format will start with the Operating system then the tip.
Windows 98 Second Edition
Freeing Up Disk Space Through Internet Explorer
-To free up unwanted files that take up a considerable amount of space do the following:
Open Internet Explorer
Go to Tools
Click on Internet Options
Click on Delete Cookies. If you are prompted to continue hit Yes
Click on Delete Files and check the box where it says "delete all offline content." Hit OK
Click on Clear History. You may also select the time to keep files in the history folder to 0. Hit OK
-Now you are able to surf the net without having these files slowing the time.
Defragmenting Your Hard Drive(s)
-This is the same for all windows systems. Defragmenting your hard drive is the computers way of bringing all the files needed to run programs and other utilities together. Bringing them together and in one contiguous cluster allows programs to respond faster without a slower loading time. To Defragment do the following:
Click on Start
Go to Programs
Go to Accessories
Go to System Tools
Click on Disk Defragmenter
Select the drive you wish windows to defragment. The rest will take care of itself.
-If you are a person who likes to download music or anything most of the time then I advise you to defragment Once A Week. If you hardly download then you may defragment once every 2 weeks.
