The Line of the
Oathbreaker -
Part II
Excerpts
from My Favourite Legend Collection.
Collection originally found in the library of An'srafisten (Librarian
and Teacher of History in Valonor, and mentor to Lanaya in her
youth). Collection continued by Valonor Teachers of History

My
favourite legends are The Tales of Lanaya Que’Thosar. My favourite is
the part where she was clumsy and got seen by orcs on the retreat from
Snowhold. It shows that she started out a normal elf just like me,
making mistakes and learning and getting better. This was also the
first time we really saw her need for right and order starting to show.
Celiviel and Thes’sehal say they did wonder about her caring so much
about warning the human colonies in the valley and only later realized
that it was the early signs of an Elven paladin in the making.

My favourite legend is The Tales of Lanaya Que’Thosar, I am fascinated
by her friends. I like Eduuard Auldgelt best. He was so calm and brave.
Using such a slow type of bow, not a real bow at all, he stood his
ground, wound his crossbow and took out orc after orc when the group
was spotted leaving Snowhold. He is such a loyal friend. Leaving the
rest of the party to go on, while he went to check on his friend Serv.
I think that the rumours of Serv being a half-orc must be exaggerated,
as no elf would ever travel with orcs or part orcs. The writers must
have got that wrong.

I’m going to be an explorer just like Lanaya. I think the funniest part
is when they were in the dwarven city and the humans drank the ale
getting goofy and passing out. My family makes the best wines in
Valonor. One day I’ll see for myself how the dwarven ale compares.

My favourite legend is The Tales of Lanaya. I like her best because she
is the only Elven paladin I’ve ever heard of. She got to leave the
Elven forests and see all the other races. I think she’s really brave
for going to the dwarven city and travelling the Undermountain. It must
have been really dark and heavy under all that rock and away from the
sun for so long. My favourite part is when the bats came and the group
all worked together to kill the flying bat creatures and get down the
cliff face without any injury except for the silly orc who had climbed
without the group and was on his own, typical orc.

My favourite legend is the Under the Mountains” story from The Tales of
Lanaya Que’Thosar. I think it’s really funny that she learned the Orc
language in order to better understand our enemies and then ended up
working with a half-orc and using it to speak to him more then anywhere
else. My mother says that is why I should learn all sorts of things I
don’t want to. Everything will be useful in it’s time. I just wish I
could learn them in time and not now when I want to be outside riding
and training.

I’m hoping to be an Elven ambassador when I grow up. One day I may go
to the dwarves just like the group in my favourite legend
Undermountain, from the Tales of Lanaya, Paladin of Corellon Larethian.
I admire the way Roderic and Lily convinced the dwarves to let the
group attempt the Undermountain trail. Humans are so good at
understanding other cultures and gaining cooperation. These cultures
come and go so quickly and the customs change so often, it’s hard to
know what the right things to say and do are.

I like to think of Lanaya when I feel like everything is too hard. She
used to say “great deeds are only done when times are hard”. I think
she was trying to convince herself sometimes, but it reminds me to be
glad I have the opportunity to make my mark on the world. She and her
friends must have been really scared when they couldn’t damage the
“worm” under the mountains. I think that would be a hard time for sure.
And yet they kept trying and trying and never giving up. I am learning
the arts of hand to hand combat, inspired by Baltuun Chagi by the way
he held the worm thing that arose from the well, keeping the monster
distracted so Thia could actually damage it bit by bit. I hope I can
make a difference like that one day.

My favourite legend is Alain and Alarin, the Giant Killers. It’s my
favourite because that teamwork and depending on friends can accomplish
so much more than solitary self-sufficiency. Good friends can overcome
the biggest problems and have fun doing it.
