When Modar was a small boy he was fascinated by the human tales of
heroic
knights, who risked all for glory and honor. He would stay up days
studying
tales of horrific quests and heroism in the libraries of the thanes.
Unfortunately for the young aspiring adventurer, his parents, being
foreign
relations to a military leader many leagues away, fell into a cult of
demon
worship. At first they only involved Modar in their religion by
speaking
of the rules and beliefs, but as they were drawn in deeper they
preformed
countless ritual sacrifices and ceremonies, all of which the young
dwarf
was informed on and part of. They started by offering animals to their
perceived gods, but when that became too little they moved up to their
fellow dwarf.
In the beginning this greatly disturbed Modar as a lot of the
sacrificed
were his close friends, but after years of the abuse he was convinced
they
were doing all for the greater good. Inevitably years of missing
persons
did not go unnoticed and his parents were tried and executed as
traitors
to the thane. As an extra punishment and shame to his parents Modar was
spared and after being relieved of his brainwashing was sent to live
his
life in hard labor as restitution for his family’s evil deeds.
During the years that followed it was noticed that the young dwarf
possessed
an unmatched skill in the art of fighting and he was eventually
released
of his duty and accepted into the military forces. He excelled in this
new profession like no other but was found to still show signs of
mental
scarring and was prone to frequent fits of rage and insanity so he was
sent to an outpost of brezerkers, so as to not cause harm to the
population
while still being a valuable part of the dwarven fighting force.
Although he was a part of their ranks he was still a shunned member and
had limited freedom. The outpost he was situated in was named Char~Mond
meaning deaths door, and it was well named for it was a kind of
sentry/guard
to the border between their kingdom and the Skull Coast, a cursed
no-man's
land north of the human kingdon of Ascaria. In recent times activities
in the coast had been increasing in frequency and in magnitude and
shortly
after Modar arrived the stronghold of the brezerkers were assaulted by
a mass orc and goblin force of unknown origin.
No other army could have held out as long as they did but eventually
even
the unique skills of the brezerkers were not enough and eventually
Char-Mond
fell, their leader mortally wounded. Modar, having proved himself in
many
battles by this time, was given a parchment of release and the honor of
putting an end to his superiors suffering. He was also given orders to
report back to the thane with the news that the outpost had fallen.
Upon arrival back in his home of old, Modar was received with an air of
mistrust but after delivering the parchment he was honored as a hero as
was his right. Modar though achieving his goals of rank was still
hungry
for glory and angry with the people who persecuted him for the wrongs
of
his parents, so with his newfound freedom he took leave of the kingdom
in search of retribution, adventure, and acceptance.
