The Godswar

"While I typically like to write from experience, this is one event I'm happy to have missed"
Manicarpe

Small conflicts that had started in the Silver Age began to escalate, as the powers of neutrality were no longer able to keep the opposing forces of law and chaos, good and evil from each other’s throats.  Small disputes escalated into larger and larger wars, eventually sucking in all the peoples of the world.  Terrifying weapons scarred the face of Annwn, and it is said that at the final, terrifying conclusion of the conflict, the gods themselves walked the earth to do battle with one another.  This later came to be known as the Godswar, and ended in a final, apocalyptic confrontation between the gods resulting in Ragnarok, the utter obliteration of the entire pantheon, as the gods completely destroyed one another.

One rumor states that one god only survived the apocalypse, although it does not state which.  Most scholars dismiss this as mere wishful fancy by a fallen deity’s followers, written in the dark times that followed.  In any case, the 3rd ages were brought to a conclusion by the death of the gods, ushering in the 4th age, better known to most as the Dark Ages.
