Squall Leonhart
Squall can be a bit cold hearted at times. He never wants to get involved with anyone so he remains quite distant from the rest of your party. He cares about no one, until Rinoa comes.

In Battle
Squall has well rounded stats and he gets some of the most powerful weapons in the game. His Limit Breaks can soften even the most toughest bosses in the game. When equiped with his last weapon and a high Strength stat, his last Limit Break (Lionheart) can cause 9,999 damage with each hit.

Rinoa Heartilly
Rinoa is a very beatiful and spirited person. She's cheerful and very lively, but she is more calm and serious than Selphie. Rinoa is honest and always speaks her mind. And she has a soft-spot for Squall.

In Battle
Rinoa has some pretty neat Limit Break attacks but they aren't very useful for only one reason, you can't decide which one to choose. You may need a potion to restore somone's HP and instead Angelo, Rinoa's dog, does his weakest attack. Or you may need for it to attack and instead it might dig up items. These Limit Breaks happen randomly and nothing seems to force a certian Limit Break to happen.

Zell Dincht
Zell dosen't think matters through before jumping into something. He is very proud of his martial art skills and wishes to be like his grandfather, who was once a soldier. Zell is actually an honest and dedicated man.

In Battle
Zell lets his fist do the talking and while his attacks and Limit Breaks aren't as strong as Squall's, he is still powerful. And if you're fast enough you can get him to pull off a large combo of Limit Breaks.

Quistis Trepe
Quistis was a SeeD cadet at the age of 15 and got her instructor license at the age of 17. Quistis is the oldest and the most mature of the group. While she dosen't mind having fun, she knows when it's time to be serious. She has her own fan group, the Trepies, but she dosen't let it go to her head (infact she rarely mentions it in the game). Becaus eshe is so close in age with her students, Quistis suffers form role-conflict. She has a tough time coping with frustration and as a result becomes depressed over trivial matters.

In Battle
Quitis is the misstress of whips. She is pretty powerful and has the most useful Limit Break attacks. Quistis makes a good mage or fighter (even both). She comes in very handy during every boss fight. Especially since her Limit Break, called "Blue Magic", has both defensive and offensive spells.

Selphie Tilmitt
A very cheerful and hyper-active teen. There's not a minute in the game where you'll find her out of energy. She's very optimistic and tries to make Squall lighten up (but fails!). Her happy-go-lucky attitude is what keeps the team from tearing each other apart.

In Battle
Selphie has mastered a very difficult weapon, the nunchaku. Her attacks are fair, but her Limit Breaks are her most useful purpose in battle. She not only has regular magic for her Limit Breaks but rare magic too. Like "Full-Cure" and "The End". "The End" is the only Limit Break that can immediately kill a boss! While it dosen't appear very often, if you keep pressing the "Do Over" option (when Selphie's HP is extremely low) then after a while it might appear.

Irvine Kinneas
Irvine is an expert gunman and lady's man. At first he seems to think of Squall as a rival (for the ladies), but they later become friends. Although he appears uncaring at first glance, he is actually a sensitive and serious person. He can also be found trying to hit on Selphie, several times in the game.

In Battle
Irvine proves to be very valuable in the physical attack depatment. His Limit Break is powerful and you can string out several shots at a time. When you have the most powerful bullets, his Limit Break can be as powerful as Squall's.

Laguna Loire
Laguna is a very kind man. He used to be a Galbadian soldier but he's now a jounalist and travels the world using his pen and paper to tell people of his adventures. Laguna's true purpose will be revealed later in the game.

In Battle
Laguna uses a machine gun in battle and he can use it very well. He only has one Limit Break, but that one is powerful enough on its own. His attacks are fairly strong and so is his magic attack.

Kiros Seagill
Kiros hangs with Laguna and Ward on their never-ending adventure. He believes in Laguna and will stay with him till the end.

In Battle
Kiros is a very fast and agile person in combat. His Limit Break strikes pretty hard and his physical attack may suprise you at times.

Ward Zaback
Ward is the other guy that hangs with Laguna. He looks like the hardcore type, but he's actually sensitive and will do anything to keep Laguna and Kiros out of harm's way.

In Battle
As his appearence suggests, he's very powerful and tough in battle. He uses a large hook (looks like an anchor)in battle. He won't do too well with magic, so just have him attack and use his Limit Break.

Ellone
Ellone is the most generous person in the world. While you meet her in the beginning of the game (remember the mysterious woman you meet in the medical room), you won't find out who she is until later in the game.

In Battle

Cid Kramer
Cid is the headmaster of Balamb Garden. He keeps himself practically locked in the 3rd floor of Balamb Garden but you do get to see him from time to time.

In Battle
Sorry, we'll never know.

Seifer Alamsy
Seifer cares for no one and is more cold hearted than Squall. Everyone at Balamb Garden knows him as the "problematic" student. Even his teacher, Quistis, can't seem to get him under control. He wants power and plenty of it , he wants everybody to reconize him as a leader.

In Battle
You only get to test Seifer's combat abilities for a very brief period. He has a gunblade like Squall and attacks pretty much the same. He only has one Limit Break.

Fujin
Fujin believes in Seifer and she'll follow him to the ends of the Earth. Fujin and Raijin seem to be inseperable people. You'll never see either one of them without the other.

In Battle
Fujin uses a throwing ring (similar to Yuffie's) in battle. She's strong and her element is wind (remember that).

Raijin
Raijin is Fujin's partner. He also believes in Seifer and will never betray their trust.

In Battle
Raijin uses a staff in battle and is commander of lightning/thunder elements (remember that too).

Edea
Edea is as evil as they come. Mean, cruel, and heartless. Edea is the last Sorceress in the world, so she chooses to terrify people. You will learn about her mysterious past later in the game, until then....
