In the 181st year of the Tenth interval, there were an excessive amount of queen eggs being laid. Gold Dust Weyr, and its sister Black Crystal, were established to house the extra queens. Larix and her aging queen were transfered to gold dust with queens from all the Northern Weyrs as soon as the other queens began producing too many queen eggs. Melianath was flown by Zartrith and B'lon bcame Weyrleader.
Fuve turns later, Larix died of a heart attack after Melianath's latest clutch had hatched and the stricken queen disappeared *between*. Weyrleader B'lon was immobilized by joint pains and resigned as Weyrleader. Marana became Weyrwoman and her queen Sitrith was flown by bronze Kargnoth and his rider K'lar became Weyrleader.
Another 5 turns later,a devastating wasting disease spread through the weyr and claimed ex-Weyrleader B'lon, three goldrider pairs--Quilla/Wimmith, Terrin/Dellonth, Pinna/Farrith--as well as 3/4 of the weyr as casualties. Marana and Belle were the only surviving weyrwomen and Sitrith and Trellth the only remaining queens in Gold Dust.
Four turns after the disease was immunized, Sitrith rose to mate and engaged in a fatal battle as Trellth rose at the same time. Marana killed herself the moment after Sitrith died, while Trellth survived to lay her last clutch, which included a golden egg. As soon as the eggs hatched, Belle took Trellth *between* forever. Larix' niece Vree Impressed the fledgling gold and became the new Weyrwoman
It is down two turns later and Vree's queen has not yet risen in her first mating flight and Vree herself is unsure of her ability to lead the Weyr. They snet out requests to the Northern Weyr to send a more mature queen to help the inexpirienced Weyrwoman. Mandalay and Slaith came to the weyr, as well as Kanta and her sterile queen Dailath. And it is only one year till the end of the Interval and the next incursion of the deadly thread....
