A little purring sound comes from just outside of Miyakath's couch, where the little gold cuddles contentedly in Yulianna's lap, practically squishing the rather petite girl. But Miya doesn't notice and doesn't really care...she's not really /hurting/ Yuli and besides, the girl's stroking her head feels so gooood! Yuli, meanwhile, continues her scritching, eyes cracking open as she hears the bronze moving across the stone floor of the barracks. "Couldn't sleep?" she asks softly, looking a little amused, and /very/ tired...but positively ecstatic, in a half-asleep sort of way.
Kia is curled up next to the sleeping form of Valanth on his couch. See wouldn't you know that since he's not too big yet that's exactly where Kia happens to sleep all the time. The movement of Nverath has Valanth's lids opening halfway to survey the area with careful watchfulness. A shake of his body actually not waking Kia turns into a short croon and nudge. See if someone else is up and being oiled so shall he be at least that's the way of things. Kia yawns green eyes blinking rapidly as she glances around "Valanth what on Pern is it?" another yawn and eyes focus on Baji and his bronze "Oh oiling just because he's getting it? Really I think you're fine?" no that didn't work see the skin near his tail twitches and he looking imploringly at the vats "Ah all right you're itchy and I'm coming!" a giggle as she hops down from the couch Valanth trailing at her heels.
D'baji goes for another glop of dragon lube from the bin, smearing that around headknobs, and patting the excess onto glowing what shoulders as Nverath settles, if only somewhat around the front, while his tail starts to thrash, bumping a syncopated rhythm against one of the vats. "Well, I was sleepin' fine. He claimes he was awoken by my 'Incessent dreaming.'" At the last bit, D'baji's normally mellow tenor takes on a lightness, proving it to be a quotation, and from Nverath's rumble, most likely a mimicry of the dragon. "And then, of course, he decided he itched. I think he just wants a rubbing, he likes that better than eating, I swear. 'Specially that tail of yours, which hasn't itched /one time/ you've claimed!" is added to the bronze, out loud, as, well, Jir's tired. Nverath turns his head to place a gleaming eye on Valanth as his rider finishes the oiling around his head, offering a croon to his clutchmate, and then turning the same sound of greeting to the gold. In contrast to his rider, he's in perfectly good humour.
Yulianna watches Kia and Valanth with no small amount of amusement, and continues her Miya-head stroking. "I've already oiled her four and a half times today." Yuli murmurs, nodding down toward the mostly-asleep gold in her lap. Really the hatchling could pass for a rather lumpy golden blanket, as she spread over the girl from her feet to her shoulders, head propped heavily up on one of the latter. "Ooh, dreams? I really don't know how Miya could possibly--Miyakath." Yulianna corrects herself with a roll of her eyes, obviously at the mental prodding of her lifemate, "--how she could possibly dream so much. An' I swear her dreams are gettin' in my head. I dreamt I was eatin' wherry the other night an' that D'b--" she breaks off with a little grimace, "--Er--that some'un was rubbin' oil on me."
Kia snickers behind her hand as she gives a pat to Valanth's blue hide. A paddle is dug out for she unlike Bajidahling is awake amazingly completely within moments. "You'll wait and have it done right Valanth if at all." The blue seemingly content with this waits eyes keeping things underraps. Mostly he watches his clutchsibs you know the awake ones the little brassy warble of curiosity just a bit much for the little blue to contain no matter what the time. Yuli's words get a giggle from the blue 'ling her oiling now comenced as she starts at the base of Valanth's tail working her way slowly upwards "Really now Yuli? Valanth's dreams don't really bother me but then they don't happen all that much from what I remember?"
Nverath seems satisfied with his shoulder rub, turning to expose a side flank to his rider, and giving a hopeful, mellow, if not regal sounding, warble. And is if his rider as any choice but to dunk his hands into the vat again and smear some of the oil over the golden-bronze hide. Yulianna's words are noted, and finally sink in, which brings a grin to his face and a raised eyebrow over a furled wing. "Really now? You had itchy hide, or was it just a rub for the joy of it?" And oddly, since Nverath, comments like that arne't meant in an at all suggestive way. Just that, well, if his Companion adores the rubbings so much, surely others could as well. "Ver... He just... doesn't really dream. Well, not much. He sleeps hard when he sleeps, but he likes to be half awake otherwise." A grin touches the rider's face for some of the quirks of his lifemate, and a cleared throat erases that well enough.
"I think it was itchy..." Yuli slowly replies, her hand, having fallen idle during the chatter, recieving a light nip from Miyakath. She quickly returns to her stroking of the gold's head, and peers down at the hatchling for a long moment, her expression most definitely the softest Kia has ever seen it, and very close to the softest that D'baji has ever seen. After a nice long moment of fledgeling-oogling, she blinks up at the other two weyrlings, as if suddenly remembering they're there, and wrinkles her nose with a grin, "Def'nitely itchy. Miyakath says she /always/ itches...and wants to know if she'll keep itchin' this much ferever." She offers a wink to the other two, and replies aloud to the gold, "No, it'll stop itchin' some day...in...well, a very long time by yer standards."
Valanth would thump his foot like a canine if well he wasn't in the presence of his clutchsibs and their lifemates. The tail is a wonderful substitute though and slapping against the stone floor of the barracks in a rather disturbingly cheerful sound for the sleepiness of most. Kia beams the smile since impression rarely leaving her face and usually only when she's drooling in her sleep. Eh go figure. Valanth gives a playful headbut to his chosen's middle the paddle being used by Kia smearing the oil evenly "You behave silly or we'll both be covered in oil and /I'm/ not itchy you know" see giggle and a pat to the unoiled spot before it's slathered over and Yuli gets a smile one of those that yes doesn't go away "Itchys go away sometime but we've lots to learn before itchies even slow down right?" if you understood any of that good for you cause I doubt even I do
At an uncharacteristically pleading whuffle from Nverath (usually he's just hopeful or demanding) D'baji dips for more oil, and circles 'round his every-growing dragon to give the other flank the same attention as the most recent. Soon the foamy golden of a bronze will be glowing like... Well, a glow. "Oh, aye? Nverath claims to itch. But he lies, sometimes, I'm pretty sure. I mean, really, we spend a good half our days oiling, just because he wants to. And he tells me the other dragons say appearances are important, and he doesn't understand why. But of course will listen to the wiser beasts." The man pauses in his rambling, a state now which he only really gets into over his Ver, and adds, "Until he can prove them all wrong." Nverath's eyes whirl a happy greeny-blue for his comments being voiced aloud. That way he doesn't have to do it himself. "Oh, the discussions they have about learning!" D'baji adds with a hiss, shuddering. "We think some of the riders just like to sound superior."
Yulianna grins at the blue's tail-slapping and nods enthusiastically, "Lots to learn." She adjusts her scritching to--oddly enough--Miyakath's rump, the gold creeling softly to announce that, yes, that /was/ the spot she wanted scritched. Yuli's expression shifts to a little bit of a worried look and she quietly admits, "I don't know a single thing I'm s'posed to be doin'. They all just say 'feed her' an' 'oil her' an' 'bathe her' an' that's all..." she grimaces and gives a little shake of her head, "I dunno what in the name of the first egg I'm s'posed ta do when that's all over with." Her eyes unfocus for a moment, and a light smile cracks across her face, "Thank ya', love, an' I'll /try/ an' do well..." Ah, the joys of learning to reply inaudibly.
Kia wiggles fingers over Valanth's hide finishing up one side of her lifemate and moving to the other having to stand on tiptoe to just see over his bent neck. "Being short is a decided disadvantage and I've got no hope of growing anymore" this is imparted ruefully as the oiling comences once more "That's pretty much all I know too oil, feed and bathe well that's a give in I mean I know how to do that but other things confuse me. I suppose we'll just have to be patient and what nto which was /never/ a strong point of mine"
D'baji raises an eyebrow for the commenting going on between rider and dragon, only mildly curious as to the conversation on the other end. Before, maybe, he would have wondered, but with one of those great jewelly eyed beings to own you, it doesn't seem quite as urgent. "Probably fight Thread, have flights, lay clutches?" D'baji offers, and, face going smooth for a while, and eyes focusing terribly (it's the 'talking to Nverath' face) he adds, for the purpose of the other riders, of course, "Which I know because that's what R'ley and Tstar are talking about." Under his breath, he adds, "Well, if you'd stop thinking about things like that you could forget them and not bring them up," as he circles around, finally, to the tail, which Nverath wiggles to be sure it's not forgotten, and convey how important it is that this doesn't itch. Not that his tail has seriously itched since he's hatched. "Being patient. I don't know how I'll survive the wait," is commented idly as the bronze hide is given an affectionate slap.
Yulianna chews her lower lip, brow wrinkling, again, as she replies, "But that's not--well...it's a little different." she admits slowly. She recieves a gentle nuzzle from Miyakath and hastily scritches the gold's rump, again...Miya proceeding to stick her tail end up in the air feline-like. "I'll have to know how to run the Weyr an' all that...ya' know? What's in the stores an' where the tithes have come from an' who'se in what wing an'--" And the more she talks about it the more her eyes begin to light up. "An' I guess it'd be just like headin' a trader wagon..." Now there's a real thought. She renews her scritching with more vigor and peers up at the ceiling, a thoughtful look on her face.
Kia finishes up the oiling with a flourish her lifemate more interested in the oil than the rubbing. Hands are wiped off onto a nearby towel as she listens to what the others 'lings have to say "You've got your work cut out for yourself that's for sure Yuli but I wish you the best of luck. Being only a blue 'ling we don't have to learn about that stuff and well I can't wait till it's time to get our own weyrs" and a mischevious grin at this "I mean I've been waiting forever to decorate somethign other than my cot or.." and she pauses her eyes taking on the faraway look "Yes a couch is good but we're not /both/ going to be able to fit in there much longer. You're not exactly little now and even if you won't get as big as a bronze you're giong to be too big to share the couch in here with me"
D'baji has been eyeing Yulianna throught her listing, rather amused, and as she concludes, he can't help but grin all out. "Aye, well... Those are just the perks then." Nverath, meanwhile, has found himself with eyes half-closed as his tail receives it's nth rubbing of the day, an occasional twitch of his jaw the only thing that keeps the liquid bronze from melting into a little pool with a tail on the floor. "Funny how you can relate things to past experiences, eh?" is added to the Goldrider, and he hmms softly. "Wonder if Ver'll like fish?" He breaks that pondering, offering a shrug to his dragon and then tuning in to Kia and what she has to say. "Oh, how will you decorate that then? Do you have any themes planned?" Because themes are, in the end, the most fun. The tail is given a pat, and wedge-shaped head swivels 'round to turn an eye on the rider. With a sigh, D'baji resumes the rubbing, which he'd presumed finished. "If I were you, I'd go with a foliage sort of design, personally."
"Decorate?" Yulianna asks, looks down from her study of the ceiling and shifts her scritching up Miyakath's ridges. "I hadn't thought about that...I guess I figured it'd already /be/ decorated." After all, her parents' wagon was. She glances down at Miyakath and grins a little, "She says make it pink. Make the whole thing pink." She gives a little shake of her head and an amused grin, which fades quickly enough. "Well, I dunno about the rest of it, but I'm nervous about the..." she hesitates, glancing at Miyakath, again and finishing a little more softly, "F-L-I-G-H-T-S."
D'baji finds his attempts at scritching the tail a bit more difficult to accomplish as Nverath decides that, right in the middle of the floor, would be a good place to lie down. Soon enough Baji sinks to a sitting positon, back against a vat of oil, and keeps on with his rubbing, as his bronze would have. "You did? No, I doubt it... See, I'm thinkin' I'll paint a mural or somethin in mine. A mixture of all the places I've gone. A bit of Igen, bit of Keroon, bit of Gar, bit of Seacliffs, that sort." This is actually the most talkative he's been for a long time, and he can't help but smile. It's nice. "Nervous..." he trail after her, pausing a moment to smoosh the letters together in his head and then ohs. "Well..." a pause, face doing it's smooth Ver thing as he attempts to form his question properly. An exhasperated roll of his eyes goes to the dragon, and he tilts his head towards Yulianna. "Why?"
Yulianna shifts a little uncomfortably, then hastily returns to her stroking, assuring Miyakath, "No, I'm okay. We're talking about somethin' I'll talk to ya' about later..." She ponders her answer a moment, and then slowly admits, "'Cause I never /have/." That's simple enough. "I talked to--" Merf. "No, love, you can't...are you hungry? No? Itch? No? Sleepy? Just go to sleep, then..." She pauses a moment, continuing her stroking, and continues, "Weyrlin'master N'ano, an' I guess I'm supposed to /before/...well...all that." Okay, so now she /is/ blushing, though her eyes stay on Miyakath, gaze absolutely adoreing.
D'baji swallows at the comment made to the gold, quite afraid he's gone and done something to upset Yulianna, and consequently Miyakath. And that is not a good thing. Nverath makes an effort to curl the tip of his tail about his rider's wrist, a bit dopey now from the rubbing that's been going on for so delightfully long, generally letting the thing hang limp up against D'baji's arm. But no problem for Nverath, for he is content, and he knows his rider to be enjoying the caress as much as his own bronzen self. "Never have? What?" He blinks, and then, light dawns. "Oh... Oh, I see... They honestly think you're supposed to 'fore any of that dragon stuff?" He is either oblivious to or ignoring her blushing. He's noted that, when talking about such matters, making notice of embarassment hardly ever helps. "Well, I mean, you've got plenty of time, right? I can't see that the first day your Miyakath is mature she'll go-" He pauses, wondering if there is reason to keep this from the dragon's ears. Like flights. "P-R-O-D-D-Y," is spelled out, just to be on the safe side. "And y'know, there're plenty of nice enough people around the Weyr..."
Yulianna nods, blancing down at Miyakath to reassure herself that the little gold's eyes are closed and she's lightly snoreing. "Aye, they think so--well, N'ano didn't say so much, but it seems that ev'ryone's thinkin' the same thing. I suppose they don't want me to be scared by...well, by all the commotion." Though she may be a little red in the face, she /does/ seem calm about the whole thing. "I don't see how it /could/ scare me." She lightens her scritching to a gentle stroking, again, and continues, "I don't hardly remember anything from before ten days ago, ya' know? Before Miya--" she can call the gold that now, since she's not paying attention to the human-chatter, "--there's just a lot of fuzzy stuff. An' /since/ her...there's just...her." Yuli struggles a little, trying to articulate something that's difficult to even understand, much less put into words. "I don't really care who /it's/ with." she admits at last.
Nverath turns his head lazily to eye the gold, giving a bit of a hum in his throat for his clutchmate, and for his tail being rubbed, and for the fact that he isn't itchy or hungry. "You've got to know, though, that just caues everyone thinks that way doesn't mean it'll end up being that way. I mean, when she... Whoever ends up catching, it could really depend on the rider. And that's if you go with the rider, which I'm told people don't always do." He's faltering now, trying not to mention for the dragon's sake, because he doesn't want to get into an explanation period with Nverath again. D'baji shrugs for the next comment. "Well, I know there are some people who consider it a /big/ deal. And then others who just... Don't. So it's what matters to you in the end." That said, her final comment draws quite a reaction from him, at least as far as laid back facial expressions go. Oh, yes, /both/ eyebrows are raised for that. "You don't care /who/?" Now that's entirely different of not caring about when. "But... That can change so much, really. And wouldn't you want someone who wouldn't be awkward with it and that?" He's reeling now. Him and his views, psht.
