The March Warden and Company
By Marie Greenleaf
The March Warden of the Homeland is one appointed Sharro, typically
male, who is the main guardian ( no relation to the Guardians )
of the Homeland. He mainly patrols the borders
of the Homeland but will go farther inland when necessary. He leads a
Ward Company of the
appointed number Seven, with the Lesser Patron being the Eighth, making
the full Patrol Company the Nine Walkers.
The March Warden is virtually required to be a prestigous
warrior,and
his company fairly close in their own skill. As defenders of the
Homeland borders, the standards for those appointed the honor of their
positions stand as being swift, sharp sensed, dutiful, and having a
lack
of fear. They are called the Nine Walkers,
the Ward Company, the Warden Keepers
( a name for the Seven ) , the Bright Watcher
( a name only for the Lesser Patron ) , the
Winged Archer ( a name only for the March Warden ) , the Ivory
Knights,
and the Fellowship of Virtue. These names were derived from several
reasons.
The Nine Walkers was a name given to all of them as a group for
being
the Nine who walk the borders of the Homeland, patrolling.
The Ward Company is a name for the Seven and the Eighth together, as
the Comapny of the March Warden and equal protectors of the Homeland.
The eight of them maintain a deep
friendship and strong bond, even to say one thatgoes so far as their
souls. In the beginning,
each of the Nine pledge their allegiance to one another, along with
their unwavering loyalty,
The Warden Keepers is a name also given to the Seven with similar
meaning. Besides their duties to the Homeland, they are also
responsible to watch over the March Warden, putting his well being
above
their own.
The Bright Watcher is an alternative name for the March Warden, the
reasons being that
he is a symbol of brightness among his kind derived from the goodness
he
posseses. And with one of his duties being to watch over the borders of
the Homeland, the safety of it's people, and his own followers, the
name
Watcher was henceforth added.
The Winged Archer is also a name given to the March Warden,
originating from the legend
told among the Sharro of the first March Warden who is said to have had
a pair of magnificent wings and was somehow taught by the humans to use
a bow and arrow, the first and assumed only Sharro to have done so.
The Ivory Knights is a name bestowed upon all Nine as the "
knights
" in service to the Homeland and to the High Counsel. Ivory, as in the
color white, is added for the reasons that the Nine are often white in
color or otherwise
fair in appearance.
Lastly, the name of the Fellowship of Virtue is a name for the Nine
in relevance to the fact that they often display noble conduct, as is
expected, and are indeed a fellowship in both duty and friendship.
The Seven are followers of the March Warden and the Lesser Patron.
They follow
them both in the patrol of the Homeland borders.
The Lesser Patron is the Eighth, second in command and rank. Although
he is a follower of the March Warden, he is also the leading protector
of the Warden, and the two spend most time together out of all the
Nine.
More often than not, this leads to the two becoming best friends and
taking the Oath of Brethren, a ritual in which after saying the oath to
one another, both are ceremoniously given a small cut on their
foreheads
and then press them together, mingling their blood and thusly making
them brothers.
