Recovery is Change |
To recover is to
change certain things that are self-destructive and interfere with
happiness and the joy of living.
For the alcoholic it is to stop drinking, the overeater to stop bingeing on food, and for others it is whatever self-destructive behavior they have. The good news about recovery is that you get to change the things you don't like and become more like the person you always wanted to be. A simple way to work at recovery is to identify any kind of behavior or reaction you have that you don't want and work at changing them. It is easier if you pick one and concentrate on that one for awhile, until real change starts taking place, then choose the next one. So here is a real simple way to work on it. KEEP TRACK OF THE KINDS OF THINGS THAT BOTHER YOU. CHOOSE ONE OF THEM TO WORK ON CHANGING TALK ABOUT IT IN YOUR GROUP LOOK FOR A MORE DESIRABLE REPLACEMENT. KEEP TRYING TO DO THINGS IN THIS MORE DESIRABLE WAY LOOK FOR IMPROVEMENT. Don't beat yourself up for not being perfect at it yet. Remember this is new to you and it will take time and practice to improve. KEEP NOTES ON YOUR PROGRESS DISCUSS IT WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND/OR SPONSOR REMEMBER CHOOSE ONE CHANGE YOU WANT TO MAKE, CHOOSE WHAT YOU WOULD PREFER AS A NEW WAY, THEN GO TO WORK ON IT. LF/ETC
