Sarah's 'Teenies' Ramble
'Teenies' - well it's a subject that is constantly brought up in a lot of silverchair sites. People are very quick to point out "This is a 'teenie' free site" or "All 'teenies' should die!"
I think that 'teenie'-bashing has become ridiculous. Every anti-'teenie' site states that there need to be more anti-'teenie' sites to combat the 'teenies'. Well I have checked out nearly all the 'chair sites on the AMC charts and I couldn't find very much 'teenie' content in any of them so what are you complaining about?
My personal opinion on this matter is that the anti-'teenies' are just as bad as the 'teenies'. How are 'teenies' defined, anyway?
According to anti-'teenies' it is like this:
1. You can not like a band for their looks, only for their music.
(I'm willing to bet that the majority of people writing this secretly have sexual fantasies about Daniel, Ben or Chris, or at least have a crush on one of them. I think all three of the guys are cute, but I also happen to love their music. I'm sure I have liked silverchair a lot longer than most anti-'teenies' - a lot of whom are probably only 12-14. Then again I'm not going to criticise anyone who only started to like them when they heard Ana's Song. Better late than never, don't you think?)
2. Teenies are the cause of Daniel's problems.
(I'm no expert but I think his problems were probably caused by his fragile state of mind, not over-excited fans)
3. 'teenies' also caused Daniel's anorexia.
(That's funny because Daniel never said he had anorexia, he only admitted to an EATING DISORDER! At least get your facts straight before you accuse anyone of anything. Again the eating disorder had more to do with Daniel's state of mind than anything else)
4. The only obsessive fans of silverchair are 11-15 year olds.
(Um does anyone remember 26 year old Jodie Ann-Marie Barnes, a.k.a 'Emily Spencer'? Am I the only silverchair fan that remembers Daniel talking about a 40 something year old somehow getting hold of his baby pics and following him every time the band visited New York? I also heard about two Australian 20 year olds attempting to throw food at Daniel during a concert to make fun of his eating disorder. These people are so low and they make me sick. Funnily enough, none of these people fit the 11-15 age bracket)
5. 'Teenies' don't buy any albums or anything and they just go to concerts to drool at Daniel.
(Whether you anti-teenies like it or not, without 'teenies', silverchair would not have sold so many albums, concert tickets, blah, blah, blah. Anyway, I think they would have to at least like a couple of songs)
Okay, some teens have pathetic taste in music, for example Britney Spears, BSB, 2Pac, N'Sync and all the rest. And for some very strange reason, some people think Matchbox 20 are a great band. I think their music is bland, middle of the road crap but I'm getting off track here, lol.
People need to stop judging each other. In one way or another we are all silverchair fans, 'teenies', anti-'teenies', liberate Dan supporters, anti-liberate Dan supporters, old chair fans, new chair fans and people who don't fit into any category but just plain love silverchair like me. To conclude, you can make fun and piss off pop lovers all you want but don't knock silverchair fans that have crushes on Daniel, because at least they like him and not some guy from BSB or N'Sync and don't assume that they want to rip his hair and/or clothes off.
I put the word 'teenies' in brackets because I don't believe in the word.
