some good films and television to viddy
the strangeness and sheer obscurity of some of these films are what intitially attracted me to them. the strangest film i have ever seen is called "Poison", which is not on the page you will notice
Withnail and I (1986)
by Handmade Films, this has got to be one of the best... Richard E Grant and Paul McGann play two starving artists (actors) living in London during a time of great transition, the end of the 1960's. So they decide to go to the country to 'rejuvinate.' Mcgann is harassed by a flaming homosexual (Griffiths) and is accused by a large Irish man of being a 'ponce'. it is a brilliant film that perhaps truly reveals that '"we are drifting into the arena of the unwell..."
THE COOK, THE THIEF, HIS WIFE AND HER LOVER (1987)
i must confess that i ardently admire helen mirren, who plays the role of an unhappy woman who falls madly in love with another man whom she meets at a french restaurant. this greatly disturbs her violent husband (michael gambon) who utters a foolish wish in a moment of passionate frenzy. he is forced to carry out his promise. although highly distubing to watch, this is an excellent film. "Try the cock, Albert. You know where it's been..."
- A CLOCKWORK ORANGE(1971)
ahhh, another small masterpiece of beauty by stanley Kubrick. this film, based on the novel by burgess, was the only way i could justify my teenage aggression. i think that everyone can find pieces of themselves in Alex, which would explain his massive appeal.
THE YOUNG ONES (1982): imagine four university students living together in a house in London. Vyvian is a sadistic punk going to medical school. Rick is a self-proclaimed left-wing anarchist, Mike is the greasy sex-crazed ladies man, and Neal is the poor, abused member who has "about as much importance as a hippie."
- WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE?
creepy, makes you skittish around siblings for a long time afterwards.
MADE IN BRITAIN (1982)
tim roth's nineteen year old baby face still won't stop you from hating him in this one. he plays a violent skinhead who is actually very intelligent and suprisingly articulate. plus it has the Exploited in the opening credits.
PRIDE AND PREJUDICE
firth plays the irrisistible little bastard Darcy, whose pond scene stole the hearts of women from both sides of the atlantic in 1996.
