photographyhere are a collection of photos that i have taken over the years. unfortunately, i have neither the talent not the technology for capturing the beauty that passed me by... which explains why my shoots are so brief and sporadic. but i still enjoy taking them and looking back at them, not just for aesthetic purposes, but because i think that pictures document a moment in time that could never be re-created. perhaps they are the closest means of presenting an experience for another's consumption. i'm also very fond of nostalgia, whether it's painful or the opposite.

Alp
this is young, idealistic cousin, Alp. Alp is an engineering student at Andolu University. he enjoys swimming in the Aegean Sea, the occasional cigarette, and the fine music of Mozart and the Pet Shop Boys. although i only see him very rarely, Alp is one of the only people who i think really understands me. it broke my heart to discover that his mother forced him to cut his hair. he now sports this bland, pleibian hairstyle which does not do him justice. this photograph was taken in Marmaris, on the west coast of turkey. we were standing at High point Café, a castle considerably elevated from the water. |
train
it's morbid, i know, but i find extreme beauty in tragedy. when i was in turkey, there was a massive train derailment and 39 people died. we drove alongside the tracks, between Istanbul and Eskisehir and traced the tragedy. the bottom line is that although the trains themselves had been modernized, the government led by erdogan did not alter the tracks to ensure that they could accommodate trains moving at such a fast speed. now they are trying to hush it all up, but its really all bollocks. |
sezin
this is alp's girlfriend, completely unaware of my camera. she is looking across the mediterranean ocean, again at high Point café. she dreams of being an elementary school math teacher. she is very patient, sensitive and unassuming. thoughful, wistful. unlike her majesty the queen, she is not meditating thoughts of a black man's cock. |
