Valentine

What's come over Hollywood? Instead of romantic offerings next Valentine's Day, we'll have dueling serial-killer flicks hitting theaters Feb. 14. Sure, one of them is a guaranteed blockbuster — the Silence of the Lambs sequel Hannibal — but the other one, Valentine, runs a better chance of stealing your heart: It stars Angel hunk David Boreanaz in his first feature film lead.

The 29-year-old actor, who plays tormented vampire-with-a-soul Angel on the just-renewed series of the same name, is keeping with the tried-and-true WB career path — via movies like Scream 2, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and The Skulls — by making his first big-screen foray a thriller.

Boreanaz — who's flopped back and forth between good Angel and evil Angel so many times on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its TV spinoff we've lost count — will play a clueless college nerd (yeah, right) who's the victim of four cruel coeds' practical joke. He bides his time for 10 years and then starts stalking the perpetrators on subsequent Valentine's Days. Urban Legend helmer Jamie Blanks will direct from a script based on Tom Savage's 1996 book. Shooting begins in Vancouver in mid-July, with the all-important Valentine's Day 2001 release date in mind.
