Rapier class Heavy Escort

Developed in 2380, when the UFAS government was undergoing many radical changes, the Rapier was designed to supplement & gradually replace the 20 year old Defiant class escort. The basic design uses a much updated Defiant spaceframe with many improvements such as upgraded quantum torpedo launchers, installation of Mk XV phaser cannons to replace the Mk X and a slightly redesigned bridge. Like the Nebula class explorer, a number of adaptable, mission-specific pods is available depending on the type of mission. For regular escort duty, a photon torpedo pod is used. If the Rapier was to act as an advanced scout, then a sensor pod could be fitted. As you can imagine, the list goes on and on.
