1969

The episode starts of with SG1 minus Sam waiting by the gate. Jack and Daniel have a slightly cute conversation about why Sam is taking so long:

Jack: What is she doing?

Daniel: Ahhh, she said something about having to time the calculations exactly right this time of year.

Jack:This time of year? What difference does that make?

Daniel: Er, she said something about solar...er, well to be honest with you, I wasn’t really paying attention.

Jack: Really??

Personally I think this scene would work better if the roles were reversed, due to my firm belief that there is absolutely nothing Daniel can’t do!! However, it’s still kinda cute because Jack seems surprised that Daniel wasn’t paying attention. I guess he agrees with me! Also take a look at how many times Daniel uses fillers such as “er” and “ahh”. Now in real conversation we all use them a lot. But according to my English teacher actors normally leave them out, unless they’re VERY good actors!! LOL

Just before they leave General Hammond gives Sam a note and tells her to keep it in her vest pocket and give it to whoever they meet on the other side. They go through the gate and end up in....the gate room! For a second, until the gate room shimmers and they end up in a missile testing facility.

Sam figures out they’ve gone back in time and warns everyone not to say anything so they get put in a holding cell. Leading to the next really cute Daniel scene. One of the soldiers comes in and asks in Russian “You Soviet spies” Daniel replies “Nait” meaning no! Jack asks him to translate which is when he realises what he’s done. He turns around and buries his head on the bunk. Jack mutters “Nait” before going with the scary soldier people. Awww poor danny-babe is probably feeling like a total idiot at this point but I think this is cute because it’s soooooo Daniel. He’s just too much of a linguist and diplomat. When someone asks him a question he just has to be utterly naive and respond in the same language! Without taking into consideration little things like he’s in an American military installation and excused of being a soviet spy!! awwwww <>

Anyway they manage to escape thanks to the help of “one sparky young Lt. Hammond!” And Daniel says that in 1969 he has about 4 1/2 years old. This makes him 36 now!!! In “Brief Candle” Jack says he’s 40! There is no way that’s right, there has to be a larger age gap! The writers and producers messed up big time! But for my own sake I’m gonna take 8yrs off Daniel and give them to Jack, making Daniel 28 and Jack 48. I think that’s more like it. If anyone has evidence to the contrary I’d love to hear it. That doesn’t mean I’ll listen, just that I’d love to hear it!

SG1 then hitch a ride, with a couple of hippies, to New York. Jack and Teal’c go to check out Sam’s theory that they can get home thanks to solar flares, using a really big telescope. Daniel and Sam, pretending to be foreigners go to see Catherine Langford. She has long black hair!!!!! She tells them that the military locked up the Gate after the accident in 1945. (a little mean of Daniel to remind her of that don’t we think!?) BTW: I thought Daniel had a very convincing accent. I know that shouldn’t surprise me, it is his job after all, but I was very impressed....then again, I’m very impressed with most of what Daniel does!

They find the gate but have to leave a few seconds too soon because they’re being shot at by soldiers. This throws them too far into the future. They run across a very old Cassie! She sends them home but not before she makes a rather interesting comment “Daniel?? I almost didn’t recognise you with hair!” WHAT?? If this was because they’re all so old they lost their hair wouldn’t that apply to Jack and Sam aswell? Why Daniel?? What did he do to it?

So with the help of Lt and General Hammond, A Catherine with long black hair and an old Cassie with white hair (and the outfit to match) they get back to the right time!

Great Daniel Moments:

One word: “Nait!!”

“I speak 23 different languages, pick one!” After Jack asks him how he’s going to convince Catherine he’s a foreigner.

Their hippie friends over hear them talking about Gate travel, this is what follows:

Jack: We came here a long, long time ago

Daniel: From a Galaxy far, far away!
