Children of the Gods!

Children of the Gods!

This is the pilot episode, it follows on from the movie Stargate.

The Stargate has been idle, and is being considered a waste of money, as personal are being shipped out.

Through early events in the episode, we learn that the parasite which invaded and created Ra (movie) is called a Goa'uld and it is not just one "parasite" but a race of aliens. This is contradictary to the Movie where Daniel after reading the 'cave walls' decides that Ra is a member of a dying species...but hey what fun would that be??

A new Goa'uld, Apophis, comes through Earth's stargate and kidnaps an Air Force Sergeant, a woman, in the SGC. (Just a side note, that has nothing to do with Daniel, but when firing starts Teal'c shields the female officer with his body. When i first watched this episode I assumed that he didn't want Apophis's new prisoner to be harmed, but since it is Teal'c...you think maybe he did it out of compassion??

After the invasion by Apophis through Earth's stargate, the Stargate program is resurrected. Colonel Jack O'Neill is asked to return from retirement of the Air Force to the Stargate program. Jack talks to Samuels and Major General Hammond (in place of General West) about the mission to Abydos. what he says about Daniel gives us an instant idea about the relationship between them. "Jackson say a scientist, he sneezed a lot, basically he was a geek sir!" BUT "He also saved my life and found a way home for my men and me. A little thing like that kinda makes a person grow on you."

Eventually Jack has to admit the truth to stop General Hammond sending a bomb to Abydos. The truth being he left our beloved Dr. Daniel Jackson at Abydos, alive. General Hammond wants to communicate with Daniel so Jack thinks of an 'ingenious' plan in which he can tease Daniel even though they're millions of light years away!! He sends a Kleenex box through the gate...because of Daniel's allergies!

Daniel sends the empty box back with a message "Thanks, send more!" Jack then returns to Abydos, to retrieve Daniel and assess the threat that Apophis poses (they think he came from Abdyos)

Accompanying Jack are a few members of the first Stargate team, among them Majors Kawalsky and Ferretti. During a briefing before departing to Abydos, Jack meets the newest team member of the team, Samantha Carter, a theoretical Astrophysicist and an Air Force Captain.

After arriving on Abydos Jack purposely (i think) pushes Daniel aside and goes to salute and hug Skaara!!Sam introduces herself as Dr. Carter. Jack points out she's being just a little hypocritical since to Jack she said "It is proper to refer to someone by their rank not salutation. You should call me Captain not Doctor. Oh well it leads to a really cute Daniel moment when he calls her Captain/Doctor. He then gives a pretty accurate description of Doppler shift. Which i'd love to explain...if you really wanted me to....i do enjoy doing the Sam thing!! damn i'm babbling again! The point is Sam says "I knew I'd like you!" cute huh!!

In the mean time Apophis comes through the gate and kidnaps Sha're and Skaara. Jack convinces Daniel to come back to Earth as it's his best chance of finding Sha're, he agrees (silently). This leads to an UNBELIEVABLY cute Daniel moment where he's saying goodbye to the Abydonians. He says "Nothing good could EVER come through that gate" in tears and with obvious pain. But one of the kids replies "You came through it!" ahhhh. They all surround him, hug him, touch him etc (god I wish I was there!) and he promises to come back in a years time..with Sha're!

The next scene was cut from the Sky One version, but it is a cute Daniel (and Jack) moment...they talk about the evenets in their lives that have led them to this point. And because I'm sad and have nothing better to do (if you don't include work) I transcribed the scene!!

At the SGC, Daniel's in the corridor and looks a little lost. (bless his soul!)

"Hey." Jack greets him

"They don't know what to do with me. And I don't know what to do with myself."

"Come on. Let's get out of here." Jack takes Danny to his apprtment.

They open a couple of beers; Daniel sneezes.

"Nice catch." Remarks Jack.

"Thank you. Hmmm, Gate travel always seems to make my allergies..." He blows his nose. "Sorry. "

"So...You were saying...?" Jack Prompts.

"Anyway. As soon as you were gone, they realised; they were free. I mean, Abydos was their world for the taking."

"Had a little party, did you?"

"Oh yeah. big, big party. They treated me like their saviour. It was, uh, embarrassing." Daniel smiles sheepishly.

"It's amazing you turned out so normal."

"Well, if it wasn't for Sha're I probably..." Daniel pauses, the pain of her abduction flooding back "She was the complete opposite of everyone else. She practically fell on the floor laughing every time I tried to do some chore they all took for granted. Like, um, grinding yafetta flour. I mean, have you ever tried to grind your own flour?"

"I'm trying to kick the flour thing." Jack remarks

Daniel laughs; then indicating the bottle, "This is going straight to my head. Hmm what time is it, anyway? I must have gate lag or something."

"Daniel, for crying out loud, you've had one beer. Cheaper date than my wife was."

Danny realising he's never met jack's wife asks, "Yes, when am I going to meet your wife?"

"Oh. Probably, ah, never…. After I came back from Abydos the first time she'd already left." Jack explains.

"I'm sorry."

"Yeah. So was I. I think in her heart she forgave me for what happened to our kid. She just...couldn't forget."

Daniel thinks for a while and asks: "And what about you?"

"I'm the opposite. I'll never forgive myself. But sometimes I can forget. Sometimes."

In a briefing back at the SGC...the infamous SG1 is in it's Early stages. General Hammond reluctantly agrees to let Daniel join as their archeologist/antropologist/linguist. But of course his primary mission is to find Sha're (Jack's is probably to find Skaara).

SG1 and SG2 (led by Kawalsky, on Jack's recommendation. His explanation "I had a moment of weakness!") go to Chulak in the hope of finding Sha're and Skaara...oh the official mission was to asess the threat that Apophis poses (just incase anyone cares!).

Daniel's first words on Chulak well he sneezes than asks "Anybody have a Kleenex?" LOL!

Jack, Sam and Daniel come across some Priests whilst exploring Chulak. They take cover behind some bushes (Sam has to drag Daniel!) Jack starts giving orders "Alright Captain, take a position 50 yards..." But Daniel walks out infront of the priests with his hands up, in a peaceful gesture and says "hi". Jack is a little frustrated as you can probably tell by his comment! "Oh for crying out loud, the man does not change!" No he doesn't Jack that's a good thing! Jack and Sam come out with guns ready but Daniel is already communicating with them. His explantion "Unless we want to get a really bad reputation, I just think we should avoid shooting the first people we meet on a new planet." Hey it makes sense to me!

Daniel asks the preists to take them to the nearest town. The preists are more than happy to do so since they think SG1 are Gods! It is here Daniel sees what's been done with Sha're ie she's a host. He runs towrads her but Apophis 'commands' him to "Kneel before your Queen." Daniel who seems to be so wrapped up in Sha're that he hasn't even heard Apophis says "Sha're it's me". Apophis rewards him by using the ribbon device to send him crashing against a wall which knocks him unconscious for a few hours!

When he wakes up they're in a Hall where The Children of the Gods are to be choosen. Daniel sees Sha're a second time and completely forgetting that he's only just regained consciousness, moves towards her. Luckily (altough he may not have agreed at the time) Jack and Sam hold him back.

He's still not ready to give up though, whilst the Goa'uld are chosing he asks again in tears "How much would I remember if you chose me?" Ouch plently of Daniel angst! This is also where what seems to me to be Daniel's personal slogan starts "Something of the host must survive!"

Jack convinces Teal'c to betray Apophis and help them and all the other prisoners escape. Just before they do though, Jack asks Daniel if he's going to be okay. Daniel thinks about it for a few minutes and then doesn't say anything! (Ahhh couldn't you just hug him!!)

Back on Earth, Jack recommends Teal'c to become a part of SG1....and the rest, as they say, is history!

Great Moments:

"You mean I'm right" after his little physics bit.

The "Nothing good could EVER come through that gate" bit.

This is soon after they arrive at Chulak. Jack: You figured out yet how to align this gate to get us back home?

Daniel: Yes, this device (the DHD) is similar to the one on Abydos. This symbol represents...

Jack:you briefed Kawalsky's team yet?

Daniel:Yes, this symbol represents...

Jack: Good job!

This is supposed to be funny, i think. It kinda was but I like Daniel in his Dr. Jackson mode! I think they should learn to appreciate him more!

Following the same sort of idea, after they first meet the Priests.

Daniel: It's a deriavtion of Arabic combined with...

Jack: Yeah whatever!
