After another glorious hatching at Jerdan Weyr, you find yourself wandering around through the crowd at the Impression banquet. Most of the people are gathered arouhdn Selyndria and her new queen dragon. You look off o\to the side and spot Dagan, who is now D'gan, sitting by himself with a large brwon hatchling sitting next to him.
"Hello D'gan," you call to the young man.
"Hi," he calls back.
"I see you Impressed a brown. Congratulations! What's his name?"
"This is Dorleth."
"How did you feel out there on the Sands? I want to hear all about it!"
The young man's green eyes brighten, and he smiles. "Okay. I'll tell you. I was really nervous at first. We were hurried out to the Sands as soon as everyone knew that the eggs were hatching. We barely had time to get on our candidate clothes."
"Really?"
"Yeah. Keliana rushed us all on to the Sands. Not a moment too soon either. As soon as all of us were assembled an egg hatched a green. Then another hatched to be a bronze. I was getting really nervous."
"I can imagine. I would have been too. Not many people get put to the egg."
"Then as the rest of the eggs started hatching, I got worried that I wouldn't Impress at all. Just when I was at my lowest another egg hatched. A strong brown was standing on the Sands. I looked at him and for some reason I felt better. When he started running to me, I was shocked. Then he tripped, and I ran to him. I told him that I could help him. I looked into his eyes and my whole body was bombarded with joy and love and hunger. My stomach muscles cramped with hunger."
"What happened next," you ask anxiously.
"I heard a voice enter my mind. At first, it was soft. Then it was like someone was speaking to me."
"What did the voice say?"
"It said,'My name is Dorleth. I am really hungry.' I almost laughed at him. I took him off the Sands and fed him. Now we are together forever."
"Wow! That must have been amazing."
"It is," D'gan says with a wistful smile.
"I must be going now, D'gan. It's been nice talking to you."
"Same here. Come back and see us again."
