calming. So, if you want to be reminded of that which is really important, if you want to

Feature Article: "Busyness" vs Productivity
By: Jacqueline McLaughlin Hale
**************************************************
In this day and age, it seems that everyone is so busy, all the time. Whenever you see or
talk to someone you havent spoken to in a while you hear, Ive been so
busy. They are. And so are you. Theres work, your kids, your spouse, your
home, the kids various activities and your involvement in them. In the midst of all
of that you still have to do the laundry, pay bills, cook every night, grocery shop and
keep up the house. Its a grueling schedule that would leave anyone exhausted!
Theres no question that youre busy, just like everyone else. The real question
is----are you productive. Theres a big difference between the two.
Busyness has you moving, all the time, without stopping. You go from one activity to
another or one chore to another or one commitment to another without taking the time to
think about what youre doing. Every moment is filled with movement. Something else
has to be done. Someone else needs you. Your day is spent reacting to the next demand or
the next crisis. You often feel like a hamster on a wheel, always running and never
getting anywhere.
A typical day may have you leaving work late because you just couldnt tell your boss
or your coworker that you had to go. You then get stuck in traffic and end up feeling very
stressed and overwhelmed because youre off schedule. You have to stop at the grocery
store because you just couldnt take the time over the weekend to plan your meals and
do one big shopping to get everything you need. And you get stuck in line because everyone
else did the same thing leaving the store frightfully crowded.
You run in the door frazzled and rushed, put the groceries away, while you start dinner
while you race into your room to change while your son tries to tell you what happened at
school today. Unfocused on what hes saying, youre thinking about all you have
to do to get dinner on the table. Then you remember you have to take your daughter to
soccer practice. You race through the house yelling for her to get ready. She cant
find her cleats because neither of you took the time to put them away where they belong.
You rush your daughter out the door, while your son is still talking forgetting that you
left the stove on. You get in the car, remember the stove, hurry back into the house to
turn it off, speed your way to the soccer field, drop your daughter and speed back to
continue with dinner. (You may even get a traffic ticket on the way).
You finish preparing dinner, pick up your daughter, choke down some food, clear the table,
clean the dishes and plop down on the couch at 9:30. Youre harried, flustered and
tired. All youve done is think about what you had to do next. You spent no quality
time with your family or yourself. Your kids are in bed; youre a mess, and
youre empty, physically, psychologically and spiritually. You have NOT been
productive.
Productivity is deliberate, proactive and conscientious. Your movements are well thought
out and each one brings you closer to one of your goals.
Your objectives are very clear and in the forefront of you mind. Any requests for your
time are measured and weighed against them. Requests that support them are undertaken;
those that do not are politely declined.
That may mean that you drop out of committees, cross a few friends off of your list, stop
planning the monthly potlucks and let someone else be team mom. But you understand that
everything has a price and the price you pay for many of the things you do is time, time
that can be better spent doing that which is truly important to you.
When you are productive that same typical day would look and feel very
different. You would leave work on time because youd tell your boss that you really
have to go. You would use the time you sit in traffic to wind down and think. You would
skip the grocery store because you went last weekend and have everything you need for the
evenings dinner. You would walk into the house and promise your son that he will
have your complete attention just as soon as you change your clothes and drive your
daughter to soccer practice. You would come back home, start dinner and listen intently to
everything your son had to say. Later on you would pick up your daughter, walk in the
house, sit down to dinner and relax as a family.
After dinner your kids would prepare for the next day while you clean up. By 8:30 everyone
would be done with what they had to do and you would have more time together. They would
go to bed at 9:30 and you would have some precious few minutes alone. You would be calm,
focused and in the moment.
Being productive you accomplished much more. All areas of your life received the amount
and level of attention they deserved.
So whats the point? The point is that being busy is a disservice to your family,
your colleagues, your friends and most importantly----you. When youre busy no one
and nothing gets your undivided attention. Those who truly matter receive only a part of
you. And sometimes you can feel as though youre failing at everything.
So stop being busy and start being productive. Spend your efforts in activities that will
help you realize your dreams and goals. Think about what it is youre agreeing to do
before you do it. Do the things that matter and just say no to all the rest

When cleaning windows, wipe in a vertical direction on the surface that is outside the

In our continuing look at the rules of fashion,
let's address some of those items your mother probably told you to never wear:
1. Never Wear Horizontal Stripes
If you wear horizontal stripes, the side-to-side lines will visually widen whatever body
part they happen to be on. So if you have large breasts, waist, or hips, for example,
horizontal lines will emphasize this fact.
If, on the other hand, you have narrow shoulders,
hips, and breasts, horizontal stripes will make you appear wider than you are.
2. Never Wear Large Prints
This is one of those rules of proportion:
*If you're small and wear something large, you'll
appear smaller.
*If you're large and wear something small, you'll
appear larger.
So the key to wearing prints is not to abandon them, but simply to make sure that they're
properly scaled to your shape and size.
3. Never Mix Plaids And Prints
While this CAN be tricky, it can also look amazing if done correctly. The key is in
keeping with the same color or design.
*If the colors are different, the design should be the same.
*If the designs are different, the colors should be the same.
*Vary the scale. If one print has large shapes, the second should be smaller.
Men do this all the time with their shirts, suits, and ties, as do interior designers with
their wallpapers and borders. Study different combinations, then try a few of your own.
4. Never Wear Bulky Textures
Like horizontal stripes, bulky textures tend to make whatever they're on look bigger.
Sequins, fur, cable knit sweatersall add mass to the body. Be careful how and where
you wear them.
5. Never Wear White From The Waist Down
Because light colors make what they're on appear
larger, many women with large hips tend to shy away from dressing from the waist down in
white. But there are some easy ways around this:
*Dress in white from head to toe. Monochromatic
colors make you look thinner and taller.
*Use a vertical line to distract. Add a duster, a
long scarf, or a long chain to focus attention
up-and-down instead of from side-to-side.

What is a bond? It is a debt security, similar to an I.O.U. When you purchase a bond, it
is though you are lending money to a government, municipality, corporation, federal agency
or other entity that has issued it. In return, you are promised a specified rate of
interest during the life of the bond and repayment of the principal (face value)when the
bond comes due.
There are many different types of bonds, including: U.S. government securities, municipal
bonds, corporate bonds, mortgage and asset-backed securities, federal agency securities
and foreign government bonds.

Did you know that June hosts International Picnic Day? So what a better way to pamper
yourself than to observe this day and splurge a little at the same time.
The secret to an awesome picnic is of course the place and the compnay but after that
comes the picnic utensils. Nothing feels better than to picnic with some really nice
plastic plates and wine glasses.
Then, fill your basket with elegant foods such as strawberries, brie cheese, Pepridge Farm
crackers, grapes and even Godiva chocolates.
Don't forget the tablecloth, and picnic blanket and you're set to go!
One evening a little girl and her parents were sitting around the table eating supper. The
little girl said, "Daddy, you're the boss, aren't you?" Her Daddy smiled,
pleased, and said yes. The little girl continued "That's because Mummy put you in
charge, right?"
