This time, Rumiko Takahashi had taken another approach and this series had been deemed one of her darker book.
An old legend of Japan states that whoever taste the Mermaid's flesh shall enjoy immortality. But like all legends, there is a dark side to the tale. Not everyone that takes the mermaid's flesh will attain immortality, most die horribly and becomes lost souls of the sea.
500 years ago, Yuta took the mermaid's flesh and (no surprise) he survived. For the next 500 years, he spent his time on the road together with his companion Mana, another who successfully survived after eating the mermaid's flesh. Both of them continued their journey trying to find the mermaid and regain their mortality.
