Fans of Rumiko Takahashi will welcome this series as unlike her other books, Maison Ikkoku is pure romance based without any trace of mythical creatures. But even so, one cannot missed the witty situations Rumiko Takahashi had crafted as well as the antics of her memorable charcters.
Yusaku Godai, a struggling student moved into the apartment building Maison Ikkoku, met Kyoko Otonashi, the apartment manager and fell in love. Although she too is attracted to Godai, Kyoko hestitates as she is still coping with the death of her husband.
From there, we see their struggle within themselves. Kyoko's is to overcome her past and Godai with the uncertainty of Kyoko's feelings for him.
And like any other love stories, there comes the love rivals, Mitaka and Kozue as they both fight for Kyoko and Godai. With rivals will come friends as well, one can simply enjoy the antics of their drunk friends who cannot understand why they are not together.
