OVERCOMING GUILT PT.4 THE FEAR OF PUNISHMENT :

AUG. 24, 1997

Gen 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good

for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes,

and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she

took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and

gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. (KJV)

Gen 3:7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they

knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig

leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

Gen 3:8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God

walking in the garden in the cool of the day:

and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the

presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. (KJV)

Gen 3:9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said

unto him, Where art thou? (KJV)

Gen 3:10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden,

and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. (KJV)

Gen 3:11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast

naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I

commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

Gen 3:12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest

to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. (KJV)

FOR THE PAST FOUR WEEKS WE HAVE BEEN LEARNING ABOUT THE NATURE AND ORIGIN OF GUILT SO THAT WE CAN RECOGNIZE IT AND OVERCOME IT'S DEIBILITATING WORK IN OUR LIVES. WE LEARNED THAT THE FIRST EXPERIENCE OF GUILT HAPPENED IN THE GARDEN OF EDEN WHEN ADAM AND HIS WIFE ATE FROM THE TREE OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOOD AND EVIL. VERSE 7, THE EYES OF THEM BOTH WEREOPENED AND THEY KNEW THAT THEY WERE NAKED. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THEY LOOKED AT THEMSELVES AND PASSED JUDGEMENT ON THMSELVES. THIS KNOWLEDGE OF GOOD AND EVIL WAS NOT AN INTELLECTUAL KNOWING BUT A PERSOANL, SUBJECTIVE KNOWING OF PERSONAL EVIL AND SIN. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME GUILT ENTERED INTO THE HUMAN EXPERIENCE RESULTING IN A DE-ARRANGEMENT AND A DEORGANIZATION WITHIN MAN. GOD HAD ORIGINALLY CREATED MAN WITH THE UNIQUE ABILITY TO RELATE TO HIM ON AN INTIMATE AND PERSOANL BASIS. MAN WAS CREATED WITH A SPIRIT WHICH GAVE HIM A GOD CONSCIOUSNESS, A SOUL WHICH GAVE HIM A SELF CONSCIOUSNESS AND A BODY WHICH GAVE HIM A WORLD CONSCIOUSNESS. WHEN MAN SINNED HE LOWERED HIS EXISTENCE AND SUFFERED THE INTERNAL PAIN WE HAVE KNOWN AND DESCRIBED AS GUILT. BUT JESUS HAS COME, MADE OF A WOMAN, MADE UNDER THE LAW THAT HE MIGHT REDEEM US, SAVE US AND RAISE US UP TOGETHER WITH HIM IN VICTORY OVER GUILT AND ITS SUBSEQUENT FEELINGS OF A FEAR OF PUNISHMENT, CONDEMNATION REJECTION AND LOW SELF-ESTEEM.

ROMAN 8:1

THERE IS THEREFORE NOW NO CONDEMNATION

TO THEM WHICH ARE IN CHRIST JESUS, WHO WALK

NOT AFTER THE FLESH, BUT AFTER THE SPIRIT.

THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOOD AND EVIL CAN BE DIRECTLY RELATED

TO WHAT WE HAVE ALL KNOWN OR EXPERIENCED, GUILT. GOD HAD NEVER INTENDED FOR THE HUMAN RACE TO EXPERIENCE GUILT AND IS NOT RESPONSIBLE AND DOES NOT ORDAIN GUILT FOR THE BLIEVER AS A MOTIVATION FOR GOOD BEHAVIOR. THIS IS THE BY-

PRODUCT OF EVE’S DISOBEDIENCE AND A RELISIOUS SPIRIT.

GUILT CAN HAVE A VERY DESTRUCTIVE AND DEBILITATING AFFECT ON PEOPLE AND GOD IS NOT THE AUTHOR OF SUCH THINGS. GUILT ACTUALLY POSES A BARRIER TO SPIRITUAL GROWTH AND FUL-FILLMENT RATHER THAN BEING A INCENTIVE FOR IT AND LEAVES A MARK OF THE SINNER CONSCIOUSNESS UPON THE BELIEVER THAT HINDERS HIM FROM BEING ACCEPTED BY GOD, FORGIVEN FOR HIS SINS, FREE FROM THE FEAR OF PUNISHMENT AND LOW SELF-ESTEEM AND ABLE TO BE A RECEIPEINT OF GOD’S BLESSING AND GRACE.

WE HAVE DEFINED GUILT AS A COMPLEX COGNATIVE EMOTIONAL REACTION WE EXPERIENCE OVER THE DISPARITY BETWEEN WHO WE ARE (OR HOW WE ACT) AND WHO WE THINK WE OUGHT TO BE. THIS REACTION MAY INVOLE SELF-PUNISHMENT, SELF-REJECTION AND A SENSE OF SHAME, DISESTEEM OR INFERIORITY. GUILT IS A PAINFUL FEELING OF SELF-REPROACH RESULTING FROM A BELIEF THAT ONE HAS DONE SOMETHING WRONG OR IMMORAL. GUILT PRODUCES A FEELING OF INDEBTEDNESS, A SENSE OF FAILURE IN CONDUCT THAT INVOLVES SIN, CRIME OR GUILT.

IF WE FAIL TO RECOGNIZE AND DEAL WITH GUILT IT WILL DESTROY OUR LIVES AND WARP OUR PERSONALITIES. GUILT IS A SELF-IMPOSED MENTAL PUNISHMENT THAT IS COMPRISED OF BOTH THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS THAT LEAVES ITS MARK UPON UNTOLD THOUSAHNDS. WE MIGHT SAY THAT GUILT IS A PRESSURE THAT FORMS US INTO ITS OWN MOLD. AS A CHRISTIAN GOD HAS PRE-DETERMINED THAT YOU BE COMFORED INTO HIS IMAGE AND LIKENESS. SINCE GUILT IS SELF-IMPOSED MENTAL PUNISHMENT FOR PERSOANL SIN GOD DOES NOT USE GUILT AS A MEANS TO CORRECT OUR BEHAVIOR. UNRESOLVED GUILT WILL DESTROY YOUR LIFE AND ROB YOU OF YOUR DESTINY IN CHRIST, IT WILL STEAL YOUR SENSE OF JOY, PEACE AND LOVE GOD HAS FOR YOU AND THWART THE PURPOSES AND WORKS THAT GOD HAS DESIGNED FOR YOUR LIFE.

Rom.8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

THE WORD CONFORMED CONVEYS THE IDEA OF PRESSING INTO A MOLD. THE PRESSURE OF GOD’S WORD, THE WITNESS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, THE BLOOD OF JESUS AND THE PRESSURE OF GOD’S UNCONDITIONAL LOVE WILL MOLD US INTO THE IMAGE AND LIKENESS OF CHRIST. HOWEVER, GUILT IS ALSO A PRESSURE THAT CAN DESTROY OUR LIVES, REDUCE US TO INACTIVITY, INCREASE WORRY, STRESS, ANXIETY AND FEAR AND WILL PROMOTE DEPRESSION, LEGALISM AND EVEN REBELLION IN OUR LIVES IF DO NOT GET VICTORY OVER GUILT.

Lk 5:1 And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed

upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by

the lake of Gennesaret, (KJV)

Lk 5:2 And saw two ships standing by the lake: but the

fishermen were gone out of them, and were

washing their nets. (KJV)

Lk 5:3 And he entered into one of the ships, which was

Simon's, and prayed him that he would thrust out

a little from the land. And he sat down, and

taught the people out of the ship. (KJV)

Lk 5:4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto

Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down

your nets for a draught. (KJV)

Lk 5:5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we

have toiled all the night, and have taken

nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.

Lk 5:6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a

great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.

Lk 5:7 And they beckoned unto their partners, which

were in the other ship, that they should come

and help them. And they came, and filled both

the ships, so that they began to sink. (KJV)

Lk 5:8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus'

knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.

Lk 5:9 For he was astonished, and all that were with

him, at the draught of the fishes which they had taken:

Lk 5:10 And so was also James, and John, the sons of

Zebedee, which were partners with Simon. And

Jesus said unto Simon, Fear not; from

henceforth thou shalt catch men. (KJV)

Lk 5:11 And when they had brought their ships to land,

they forsook all, and followed him. (KJV)

IN ORDER FOR US TO UNDERSTAND THE TRUE SIGNIFICANCE OF WHAT HAPPEND TO PETER, JAMES AND JOHN ON THAT DAY WHEN JESUS CALLED THEM INTO THE MINISTRY OF EVANGELISM WE NEED TO UNDERSTAND THE SETTING. THE ACCOUNT IN LUKE'S GOSPEL IS NOT A HARMONY OF THE GOSPELS WITH MATTHEW AND MARK BUT A SEPARATE AND ALTOGETHER DIFFERENT ACCOUNT. IN MATTHEW AND MARK'S ACCOUNT JESUS HAD GIVEN THE INTIAL INVITATION TO SIMON PETER AND HE AND JAMES AND JOHN LEFT THEIR FISIHING BUSINESS, HOMES, FAMLIES AND FRIENDS TO FOLLOW JESUS. BUT IN THIS ACCOUNT IN LUKE WE SEE THESE SAME MEN BACK IN THE FISHING BUSINESS. WHY THEY WENT BACK AFTER THEY WERE CALLED IS NOT TOLD US. PERHAPS THEY WERE DISCOURAGED, MAYBE THEY WERE AFRAID OF THE UNKNOW AND RESORTED TO THAT WHICH THEY HAD BEEN TRAINED TO DO.

Matt 4:18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw

two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew

his brother, casting a net into the sea: for

they were fishers. (KJV)

Matt 4:19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will

make you fishers of men. (KJV)

Matt 4:20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.

Matt 4:21 And going on from thence, he saw other two

brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John

his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their

father, mending their nets; and he called them.

Matt 4:22 And they immediately left the ship and their

father, and followed him. (KJV)

Matt 4:23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in

their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of

the kingdom, and healing all manner of

sickness and all manner of disease among the people.

NEVERTHELESS JESUS COMES BACK TO PETER, JAMES AND JOHN AFTER THEY SPENT AN UNSUCCESSFUL NIGHT FISIHING. HE DIDN'T REBUKE THEM OR CALL FIRE DOWN FROM HEAVEN BECAUSE OF THEIR LACK OF CIMMITTMENT TO THEIR CALLING. INSTEAD HE BLESSED THEM WITH AN ACT OF KINDNESS AND GRACE. LET'S LOOK AT WHAT JESUS DID:

VERSE 5:2-3 JESUS WAS WALKING BY THE LAKE AND HE STEPPED INTO ONE OF PETER'S BOATS AND TOOK COMMAND. HE PRESENTLY ASKED PETER TO LET THE BOAT OUT A LITTLE BIT AND HE BEGAN TO TEACH THE PEOPLE. WHEN HE IS DONE TEACHING JESUS BEGINS TO SPEAK TO PETER.

Lk 5:4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto

Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down

your nets for a draught. (KJV)

Lk 5:5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we

have toiled all the night, and have taken

nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let

down the net. (KJV)

IT WOULD APPEAR THAT JESUS WAS GOING TO GO INTO THE FISHING BUSINESS WITH PETER AND HIS MEN. JESUS INSTRUCTS THEM TO LAUNCH OUT INTO THE DEEP AND LET DOWN YOUR NETS. SIMON BEGINS TO GENTLY PROTEST BY SAYING, MASTER (GK. EPISTATES WHICH DOES NOT MEAN SIMPLY TEACHER BUT MASTER AND MORE LITERALLY CAPTIAN). JESUS HAD STEPPED INTO THAT BOAT AND ASSUMED HIS RIGHTFUL PLACE NOT JUST AS TEACHER AND MASTER IN HIS OWN SPECIFIC DOMAIN BUT ALSO THAT WHICH WAS THEIR OWN. WHEN PETER HAD CAST OUT THE NETS IN OBEDIENCE TO JESUS THEY WERE SO FULL OF FISH THAT HE NEEDED HELP TO BRING IT IN.

WHEN PETER BECOMES AWARE OF WHO JESUS REALLY IS AND WHAT HE HAS JUST DONE HE IMMEDIATELY RECOGNIZES HIS OWN SINFUL CONDITION AND CRYS OUT FOR SEPARATION. HE SAID, "LORD, MASTER, CAPTIAN, DEPART FROM ME FOR I AM A SINFUL MAN. I HAVE MADE A COMMITTMENT TO FOLLOW YOU AND SERVE YOU BUT NOW I AM HERE SERVING MYSELF INSTEAD." NOT ONLY WAS PETER AWARE OF HIS SIN BUT HE ALSO FELT A SENSE OF PERSONAL GUILT FOR HIS SIN. HE SAW HIMSELF AS A SINFUL MAN OR IF WE MAY BREAK THAT DOWN FOR FURTHER UNDERSTANDING, HE SAW HIMSELF AS A MAN FULL OF SIN AND UNFIT FOR THE COMPANY OF A HOLY MAN.

JESUS'S REMARKS TO PETER IN LK.5:10 WE UNDERSTAND THE PERCISE GUILT FEELNGS OF PETER--HE WAS AFRAID OF JESUS. JESUS SAID, BE NOT AFRAID, FOR I WILL MAKE YOU FISHERS OF MEN. MOST OF US HAVE THE SAME RESPONSE WHEN WE FAIL THE LORD IN SOME WAY OR WHEN WE HAVE NOT FOLLOWED THROUGH WITH SOME KIND OF COMMITTMENT TO THE LORD. WE BEGIN TO FEAL GUILTY AND AFRAID OF GOD'S JUDGEMENT AND WRATH. BUT GOD DID NOT USE HIS JUDGEMENT, HIS WRATH OR HIS ANGER TO DEAL WITH HIS DISCIPLES. HE CHOSE TO USE HIS LOVE, HIS MERCY AND HIS KINDNESS TO CHANGE SOMETHING IN THE HEARTS OF THOSE MEN. THEY WILL NEVER FORGET WHAT HAPPEND TO THEM THAT DAY. THEY WORKED HARD ALL NIGHT AND DIDN'T ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING--JESUS CAME TO THEM, IN AN ACT OF CONDESCENSION, TOOK COMMAND OF THE SITUATION AS LORD AND MASTER AND CAUGHT MORE FISH THAN ANY OTHER MAN HAD DONE WITH THAT KIND OF EQUIPMENT. HE WAS TRULY LORD AND MASTER AND WORTHY OF THE ADMIRATION, VENERATION, RESPECT AND DEVOTION. IT WAS HIS LOVE AND GOODNESS THAT HAD SO CHANGED THOSE MEN--WILL IT BE ANYTHING LESS FOR US.

1Thes 5:9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but

to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

APPOINT:Strong's # 5087 tithemi (tith'-ay-mee);

WITH THE IDEA OF DESTINY OR DIVINE

APPOINTMENT: RSV=GOD HAS NOT DESTINED

US FOR WRATH OR SUBJECTED US TO THE

TERRORS OF HIS JUDGEMENT.

KJV-- + advise, appoint, bow, commit,

conceive, give, X kneel down, lay

(aside, down, up), make, ordain,

purpose, put, set (forth), settle, sink down.

BUT: IS A CONJUNCTION OF THE WORD APPOINT, GOD HAS NOT APPOINTED US TO OBTAIN wRATH BUT HE HAS APPOINTED AND DESTINED US TO SALVATION.

1Thes 5:10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or

sleep, we should live together with him.

1Thes 5:11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and

edify one another, even as also ye do.

Romans 5:6 For when we were yet without strength, in

due time Christ died for the ungodly. (KJV)

Romans 5:7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one

die: yet peradventure for a good man some

would even dare to die. (KJV)

Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in

that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his

blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

Romans 5:10 For if, when we were enemies, we were

reconciled to God by the death of his Son,

much more, being reconciled, we shall be

saved by his life. (KJV)

Romans 5:11 And not only so, but we also joy in God

through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we

have now received the atonement. (KJV)

GOD'S WRATH IS RESERVED FOR THE CHILDREN OF DISOBEDIENCE NOT FOR THE CHILDREN OF GOD:

Eph 5:1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;

Eph 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us,

and hath given himself for us an offering and a

sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

Eph 5:3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or

covetousness, let it not be once named among

you, as becometh saints; (KJV)

Eph 5:4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor

jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.

Eph 5:5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor

unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an

idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom

of Christ and of God. (KJV)

Eph 5:6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for

because of these things cometh the wrath of God

upon the children of disobedience. (KJV)

Eph 5:7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them. (KJV)

Eph 5:8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye

light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

Col 3:5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon

the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate

affection, evil concupiscence, and

covetousness, which is idolatry: (KJV)

Col 3:6 For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh

on the children of disobedience: (KJV)

1 Thes 1:10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom

he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which

delivered us from the wrath to come. (KJV)

THE JUDGEMENT OF OUR SIN WAS LAID ON JESUS

SO THAT WE DON'T HAVE TO INCURR GOD'S WRATH

FOR PERSONAL SIN:

Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have

turned every one to his own way; and the

LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Isaiah 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet

he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a

lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep

before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

Isaiah 53:8 He was taken from prison and from judgment:

and who shall declare his generation? for

he was cut off out of the land of the

living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

Isaiah 53:9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and

with the rich in his death; because he had

done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

Isaiah 53:10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he

hath put him to grief: when thou shalt

make his soul an offering for sin, he

shall see his seed, he shall prolong his

days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall

prosper in his hand. (KJV)

Isaiah 53:11 He shall see of the travail of his soul,

and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge

shall my righteous servant justify many;

for he shall bear their iniquities. (KJV)

PROPITIATION: FROM THE LATIN WORD, PROPE: TO BRING NEAR; HENCE THE WORD MEANS TO BRING TOGETHER, TO MAKE FAVORABLE, THE WINNING OF RECONCILIATION. A SACRIFICE OF PROPITIATION BRINGS MEN NEAR TO GOD BY

ATONING FOR HIS TRANSGRESSIONS AND WINNING DIVINE FAVOR AND GRACE. GOD IN MERCY ACCEPTS THE PROPITAITORY GIFT AND RESTORES THE PERSON TO HIS LOVE. TO PROPITIATE IS TO APPEASE THE RIGHTEOUS WRATH OF A

HOLY GOD BY THE OFFERING OF AN ATONING SACRIFICE. JESUS IS DESCRIBED AS THAT IN:

Romans 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a

propitiation through faith in his blood, to

declare his righteousness for the remission

of sins that are past, through the

forbearance of God; (KJV)

1 John 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but

that he loved us, and sent his Son to be

the propitiation for our sins. (KJV)

1 John 2:1 My little children, these things write I

unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man

sin, we have an advocate with the Father,

Jesus Christ the righteous: (KJV)

1 John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and

not for ours only, but also for the sins of

the whole world. (KJV)

LIKE PETER, SIN KEEPS MAN AT A DISTANCE FROM GOD; BUT CHRIST HAS SO DEALT WITH SIN ON MAN'S BEHALF THAT ITS SEPARATIVE POWER IS CANCELLED OR ANNULED; THEREFORE MAN MAY NOW DRAW NEAR TO GOD. ACCESS INTO THE PRESENCE AND FAVOR OF GOD HAS BEEN PURCHASED AT A GREAT PRICE, THE BLOOD OF JESUS. WE NEED NOT BE AFRAID OF GOD'S JUDGEMENT AND WRATH FOR WE ARE NOT APPOINTED TO WRATH BUT WE ARE APPOINTED TO OBTAIN GOD'S FAVOR, SALVATION AND BLESSING.

Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of

God, they are the sons of God. (KJV)

Romans 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of

bondage again to fear; but ye have received

the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry,

Abba, Father. (KJV)

Romans 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our

spirit, that we are the children of God:

THE BLOOD OF JESUS MAKES IT POSSIBLE FOR EVERY MAN, WOMAN AND CHILD TO BECOME A PART OF THE FAMILY OF GOD. REGENERA-TION IS MADE POSSIBLE BECAUSE THE BLOOD OF JESUS PROVIDES ATONEMENT FOR OUR SIN. WE LITERALLY BECOME THE CHILDREN OF GOD BY FAITH IN CHRIST JESUS. GOD IS REALLY OUR ABBA FATHER AND JESUS IS OUR ELDER BROTHER. WHAT DO WE HAVE HERE? WE HAVE A PICTURE OF A FAMILY--THE FAMILY OF GOD. THE BASIS AND FOUNDATION OF GOD'S FAMILY IS NOT FEAR BUT LOVE. A FATHER THAT CONTROLS HIS FAMILY BY FEAR MAY FORCE OUTWARD FUNCTION BUT IT WILL LACK ANY INTIMACY, CLOSNESS AND TOGETHERNESS. IF, HOWEVER, A FATHER MANAGES HIS FAMILY BY LOVE, GENTLENESS, PATIENCE, FORBEARANCE, MERCY, KINDNESS AND COMPASSION HIS FAMILY WILL FLOCK AROUND HIM. GOD DOES NOT MOTIVATE US BY FEAR BECAUSE FEAR WILL SEPARATE US FROM GOD AND CAN BE A FORM OF MANIPULATION. GOD DOES NOT WANT TO MANIPULATE US TO OBEDEIENCE BUT TO RELATE TO US IN LOVE THAT WILL RECPROCATE OBEDIENCE: (ILLUSTRATION FROM CABLE PROGRAMS) LOVE IS THE COHESIVE ELEMENT IN ANY RELATIONSHIP NOT FEAR. FEAR SEPARATES--LOVE DRAWS TOGETHER AND BINDS TO-

GETHER:

Hosea 11:4 I drew them with cords of a man, with bands

of love: and I was to them as they that take

off the yoke on their jaws, and I laid meat

unto them. (KJV)

Hosea 11:4 I drew them with cords of a man, with bands of love: and

I was to them as they that take off the yoke on their

jaws, and I laid meat unto them. (KJV)

FEAR: PHOBOS- MEANS PANIC, FRIGHT, FEAR--TO BE FRIGHTENED, TO COWER, TO BE OR PLAY THE PART OF A COWARD. GOD HAS NOT GIVEN US A SPIRIT OF TIMIDITY.

2 Tim 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear;

but of power, and of love, and of a sound

mind. (KJV)

Heb 12:28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot

be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may

serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: (KJV)

1 John 4:16 And we have known and believed the love

that God hath to us. God is love; and he

that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. (KJV)

1 John 4:17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we

may have boldness in the day of judgment:

because as he is, so are we in this world.

1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love

casteth out fear: because fear hath

torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. (KJV)

WE CAN TRACE THE BEGINNING OF FEAR BACK TO THE GARDEN OF EDEN WHEN ADAM AND EVE DISOBEYED GOD THEY IMMEDIATELY KNEW THAT THEY WERE NAKED=THEY HAD A SENSE OF GUILT AND SHAME FOR THEIR SIN. WHEN THEY HEARD THE VOICE OF GOD IN THE GARDEN THEY HID THEMSELVES OR SEPARATED THEMSELVES FROM THE LORD BECAUSE THEY WERE AFRAID. THIS FEAR WAS NOT DESIGNED BY GOD BUT WAS A PRODUCT OF THE TREE OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOOD AND EVIL--THE SOURCE OF GUILT FEELINGS.

Gen 3:1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast

of the field which the LORD God had made. And
