OVERCOMING GUILT: CONCLUSION
11/9/97
Ps 32:1 Blessed is he whose transgressions are
forgiven, whose sins are covered. (NIV)
Ps 32:2 Blessed is the man whose sin the LORD does not
count against him and in whose spirit is no deceit.
Ps 32:3 When I kept silent, my bones wasted away
through my groaning all day long. (NIV)
Ps 32:4 For day and night your hand was heavy upon me;
my strength was sapped as in the heat of
summer. Selah (NIV)
Ps 32:5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not
cover up my iniquity. I said, "I will confess
my transgressions to the LORD"-- and you
forgave the guilt of my sin. Selah (NIV)
Ps 32:6 Therefore let everyone who is godly pray to you
while you may be found; surely when the mighty
waters rise, they will not reach him. (NIV)
Ps 32:7 You are my hiding place; you will protect me
from trouble and surround me with songs of
deliverance. Selah (NIV)
1Jn 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just
to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from
all unrighteousness. (KJV)
OVER THE PAST THREE MONTHS WE HAVE BEEN STUDYING THE
NATURE AND ORIGIN OF GUILT IN OUR LIVES AS A DESTRUC-
TIVE AND DEABILITATING FORCE THAT CAN WARP OUR PERSON-
ALITIES AND PRESSURE US INTO A PERFORMANCE BASED RE
LATIONSHIP WITH GOD THAT BORDERLINES ON RELIGION. IN
THE PAST WE HAVE DEFINED RELIGION AS MAN'S EFFORT TO
REACH GOD BY GOOD WORKS AND GOOD BEHAVIOR. WE HAVE DE-
FINED CHRISTIANITY AS GOD'S EFFORT TO REACH LOST AND
SINFUL HUMANITY THROUGH THE MEDIATORIAL AND EFFECASIOUS
WORK OF JESUS CHRIST AT CALVARY. THIS MORNING I WANT
TO TRACE THE BEGINNING MOVEMENTS OF GUILT AND ITS
EFFECT UPON ADAM AND EVE'S LIVES AND UPON THEIR BEHAV-
IOR AFTER THE FALL BECAUSE THOSE EFFECTS ARE STILL BEING
FELT TODAY.
Gen 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image,
after our likeness: and let them have dominion
over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of
the air, and over the cattle, and over all the
earth, and over every creeping thing that
creepeth upon the earth. (KJV)
Gen 1:27 alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
ADAM AND EVE WERE CREATED IN THE IMAGE AND LIKENESS
OF GOD AND LIVED AND LIVED IN THE GARDEN OF PARADISE.
HERE THEY WERE IN PERFECT HARMONY WITH THEMSELVES, ONE
ANOTHER AND WITH GOD. ALTHOUGH THEY WERE NAKED, THEY
WERE NOT ASHAMED BECAUSE THEY WERE CLOTHED WITH THE
GLORY OF GOD. AT THIS TIME ADAM AND EVE KNEW NO DIS-
UNITY OR DEARANGEMENT OF THEIR PERSONALITIES. THEY
DID NOT EXPERIENCE ANY CONFLICT BECAUSE THEY WERE IN-
WARDLY WHOLE AND PEACEFUL. IF ADAM AND EVE HAD TAKEN
TIME TO REFLECT UPON THEIR SELF-ESTEEM BEFORE THE FALL
THEY PROBABLY WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THINGS LIKE: "WE ARE
WHOLE, HAPPY AND FULFILLED INDIVIDUALS BECAUSE WE KNOW
OUR IDENTITY IN RELATION TO OUR CREATOR. WE ARE WHAT
WE WERE CREATED TO BE AND WE FEEL COMFORTABLE IN OUR
POSITION. THEY WOULD HAVE FELT NO BURDEN TO PROVE
THEIR WORTH, TO AVOID GUILT OR BUILD THEIR OWN
INDENTITY BECAUSE THEIR EMOTIONAL HARMONY WAS A
GRACIOUS GIFT RATHER THAN SOMETHING EARNED.
Gen 5:1 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In
the day that God created man, in the likeness
of God made he him; (KJV)
Gen 5:2 Male and female created he them; and blessed
them, and called their name Adam, in the day
when they were created. (KJV)
Gen 5:3 And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and
begat a son in his own likeness, after his
image; and called his name Seth: ADAM'S
CHILDREN WE MADE IN HIS IMAGE AND LIKENESS AN
NOT IN GOD'S THAT IS WHY HUMANITY IS STILL
LIVING UDER THE EFFECTS OF ADAM AND EVE'S
CHOICE IN THE GARDEN. BUT...
JESUS CHRIST HAS COME TO RESTORE ALL THINGS THAT
ADAM AND EVE FORFIETED IN THE GARDEN BY WAY OF THEIR
FALL AND DISOBEDIENCE. WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY AFTER
SALVATION TO EXPERIENCE AN EXISTENCE THAT IS FREE FROM
GUILT. ALTHOUGH WE CANNOT GO BACK TO THE GARDEN OF
PARADISE WE CAN LIVE WHOLE, FULFILLED AND PEACEFUL
LIVES WITH INTIMATE COMMUNION AND FELLOWSHIP WITH THE
FATHER, THE SON AND THE HOLY SPIRIT. LET ME BRIEFLY
DIGRESS INTO SOME OF THE EFFECT OF THE FALL UPON ADAM
AND THE HUMAN RACE AS A PREMISE FOR UNDERSTANDING WHAT
GOD OFFERS TO US WHEN WE OVERCOME GUILT FEELINGS IN OUR
LIVES. THE ABSCENCE OF GUILT SHOULD PRODUCE SIX THINGS
IOU OUR LIVES.
Gen 3:6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good
for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes,
and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she
took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and
gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
Gen 3:7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they
knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig
leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
THE MOMENT THE FRUIT WAS EATEN THE EYES OF THEM BOTH
WERE IMMDEIATELY OPENED AND THEY KEW THAT THEY WERE
NAKED AND SO THEY SEWED FIG LEAVES TOGETHER TO COVER
THEIR NAKEDNESS. ADAM AND EVE'S SIN PLACED THEM IN AN
IMMEDIATE STATE OR CONDITION OF OBJECTIVE GUILT. THEIR
FIRST EMOTIONAL REACTION TO GUILT WAS FEELINGS OF
SHAME, A SENSE OF LOOSING SOMETHING. NOTICE THAT THESE
GUILTY FEELINGS OCCURED IN THE ABSCENCE OF ANY EXTERNAL
PUNISHMENT OR REJECTION AND THAT IT WAS NOT THE SAME AS
FEAR AS JOHN CALVIN POINTS OUT:
THE OPENING OF THE EYES OF OUR FIRST PARENTS TO
DISCERN THEIR BASENESS, CLEARLY PROVES THAT THEY HAD
BEEN CONDEMNED BY THEIR OWN JUDGEMENT. THEY WERE NOT
YET SUMMONED TO THE TRIBUNAL OF GOD: THERE IS NONE WHO
ACCUSES THEM: IS NOT THEN THE SENSE OF SHAME, WHICH
ARISES SPONTANEOUSLY, A SURE TOKEN OF GUILT. ALTHOUGH
ADAM AND EVE WERE ATTEMPTING TO HIDE THEMSELVES FROM
EACH OTHER ( AND LATER GOD) THE PRIMARY THREAT WAS
INTERNAL. THEY KNEW THAT THEY WERE NOT AS THEY SHOULD
BE SO THEY TRIED TO HIDE. HERE IS THE FIRST DISHARMONY
AND DISUNITY IN THE HUMAN PERSONALITY: ADAM AND EVE ARE
NOW INWARDLY AWARE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM THAT SOME-
THING HAS GONE TERRIBLY WRONG. HERE WE CAN SEE THE
ORIGIN OF GUILT. IT BEGAN IN ADAM AND EVE'S HEART AND
MIND. SO WE HAVE DEFINED GUILT AS A PROCESS OF SELF
REPROACH AND JUDGEMENT THAT ORIGINATES IN OUR THOUGHTS
AND FEELINGS. HERE IN THE GARDEN AFTER THE FALL ADAM
AND EVE BECOME AWARE THAT THERE IS A GAP BETWEEN WHAT
THEY HAVE NOW BECOME, FALLEN PERSONS, AND WHAT THEY
WERE CREATED BY GOD TO BE. SECONDLY THEY EXPERIENCED A
CONFLICT BETWEEN WHAT THEY NOW ARE AND WHAT THEY WOULD
LIKE TO BE IN THEIR OWN AUTONOMOUS EXISTENCE. THEY
OBSERVE THEMSELVES AND FIND THEMSELVES LACKING OR THEY
ARE NOT HAPPY OR SATISFIED WITH THEY WAY THE ARE.
THERE IS A TENSION THAT NOW EXISTS IN THEIR PERSONALITY
BECAUSE THEY INWARDLY KNOW THAT THEY CANNOT BE WHO GOD
HAD DESIGNED THEM TO BE AND NEITHER CAN THEY BE WHO THE
SERPENT BEGUILED THEM INTO BELIEVING: THAT THEY WERE
AUTONOMOUS GODS IN FULL CONTROL OF THEIR EXISTENCE.
Gen 3:7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they
knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig
leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
(THE FIG LEAVES WERE A DEFENSE MECHANISM FOR
HIDING THEIR GUILT AND NAKEDNESS FROM EACH OTHER.
Gen 3:8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God
walking in the garden in the cool of the day:
and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the
presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of
the garden. (KJV)
FEELING ALONE IN THEIR SEPARATION AND GOD-LIKE
EXISTENCE ADAM AND EVE FEEL A LOST SENSE OF FEELING
WHOLE AND COMPLETE WITHIN THEMSELVES. HERE, CONSCIENCE
IS BEING AFFECTED IN A NEGATIVE WAY. FOR THE FIRST
TIME IN THEIR EXISTENCE THEY BEGIN TO JUDGE THEMSELVES.
IN RESPONSE TO THEIR PERCEPTIONS OF THEMSELVES AND THIS
SENSE OF LOSS AND LACK THEY EXPERIENCE GUILT. IT IS
IMPORTANT TO SEE THAT ADAM AND EVES GUILT FEELINGS IS
NOT AT ALL RELATED TO THE PRESENCE OF GOD OR TO HIS
DIVINE JUDGEMENT. IT IS APPARENTLY A NATURAL AND SPON-
TANEOUS REACTION OF DISOBEDIENCE ARISING INWARDLY FROM
THEIR OWN THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS. WE CAN THEREFORE CON-
CLUDE THAT THESE GUILT FEELING DID NOT COME FROM GOD
AND THAT HE DIDN'T USE THEM TO BRING ABOUT SORROW AND
REPENTANCE. THERE IS NOTHING IN THIS GENESIS ACCOUNT
THAT SAYS THAT THEIR GUILT FEELINGS CAME FROM GOD. SO
WE CONCLUDE THAT GOD DOESN'T USE GUILT AS A MEANS TO
CHANGE US AND TO CHANGE OUR BEHAVIOR. WE NEED TO SEE
GUILT AS A DESTRUCTIVE, MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL FORCE THAT
CAN DESTROY OUR LIVES AND CONDITION US TO NEUROTIC BE-
HAVIOR.
LET'S BRIEFLY REVIEW THE NEGATIVE FORCE THAT GUILT
CAN HAVE UPON OUR LIVES:
UNRESOLVED GUILT WILL PRODUCE THESE
FOUR THINGS IN OUR LIVES:
1. DISTRESS AND ANXIETY
2. DEPRESSION
3. LEGALISM OR RELIGIOUS ACTIVITY
4. REBELLION
LET'S LOOK A LITTLE CLOSER AT EACH OF THESE FOUR
FEELINGS OF THE FEAR OF PUNISHMENT, FEELINGS OF CON-
DEMNATION, FEELINGS OF LOW SELF-ESTEEM AND FEELINGS OF
REJECTION. UNLESS WE FIND A BIBLICAL ANSWER TO THESE
FEELINGS OF GUILT WE WILL BE WIDE OPEN AND SUBJET TO
ITS CONFORMING PRESSURES IN OUR LIVES AND ON OUR PER-
SONALITIES.
CONFORMING TO THE PRESSURES OF GUILT:
ROM.12:2-3
1. THE FEAR OF PUNISHMENT:
A. THE FEAR OF PUNISHMENT CAN DEVELOPE THE CHARACTER
TRAITS OF ANXIETY, NERVOUSNESS; YOU CAN BECOME A
"WORRY WORT."
B. THE FEAR OF GOD'S WRATH CAN PRODUCE THE
DISPOSITION OF DOUBT, FEAR AND UNBELIEF IN THE
GOODNESS OF GOD.
C. THE FEAR OF PUNISHMENT PRODUCES THE CHARACTER OF
PESSIMISM AND NEGATIVISM IN A PERSON'S LIFE. YOU
OUTLOOK ON LIFE IS DISMAL--YOUR ALWAYS ANTICIPATING
SOMETHING BAD IS GOING TO HAPPEN TO YOU. THERE IS
NO SENSE OF HOPE AND FAITH IN GOD OR FOR THE FUTURE.
D. WHEN SOME FORM OF TROUBLE COMES AND IS WRONGLY
PERCEIVED AS PUNISHMENT A PERSON CAN BECOME
BITTER, ANGY, HATEFUL UNFORGIVING AND RETRIBUTIVE
TOWARDS OTHERS.
2. A FEELING OF CONDEMNATION:
A. THE FEELINGS OF CONDEMNATION CAN DEVELOPE AN
ATTITUDE AND DIPOSITION OF CRITICISM, AND
JUDGEMENTALISM IN A PERSON'S LIFE.
B. THESE FEELINGS OF CONDEMNATION CAN PRODUCE A
SENSE OF INADEQUACY: "I CAN NEVER DO ANYTHING RIGHT"
"EVERYTHING I TRY TO DO FAILS BECAUSE I'M NO GOOD"
THIS CAN PRODUCE FEELINGS OF FRUSTRATION RESULTING
IN APATHY, INDIFFERENCE, COMPLACENCY, LAZINESS AND
PROCRASTINATION.
C. THE FEELINGS OF CONDEMNATION CAN PRODUCE A FALSE
SENSE OF PRIDE AND SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS AS A
COVERING FOR GUILT.
3. A FEELING OF LOW SELF-ESTEEM:
A. FEELINGS OF LOW SELF-ESTEEM CAN PRODUCE THE
CHARACTER OF INFERIORITY IN A PERSONS LIFE.
B. FEELINGS OF DISESTEEM PRODUCE FEELINGS OF SHAME
WHETHER IT IS THE DIRECT RESULT OF MISCONDUCT OR
IMPOSED ON BY OTHERS BECAUSE OF COLOR, RACE, SIZE
OR OUTWARD APPEARANCE.
C. A FEELING OF LOW SELF-ESTEEM CAN MAKE A PERSON FEEL
IN COMPETENT AND THEY MAY APPEAR TO BE LAZY,
INDIFFERENT OR COMPLACENT BUT THEY ARE REALLY IN
BONDAGE TO THE FEAR OF FAILURE THE FEAR OF MAN AND
THE FEAR OF RIDICULE.
D. LOW SELF-ESTEEM CAN PRODUCE A FALSE SENSE OF
HUMILITY AND BROKENESS IN A PERSON'S LIFE.
E. A PERSON THAT IS ALWAYS APOLOGETIC, INSECURE OR
INDICISIVE STRUGGLES WITH SELF-ESTEEM.
4. A FEELING OF REJECTION:
A. FEELINGS OF REJECTION IS A MAJOR CAUSE FOR
DEPRESSION IN PEOPLE'S LIVES. GOD CREATED ALL OF US
WITH THE NEED TO BE LOVED AND ACCEPTED AND THE
ABSENCE OF THIS CAN PRODUCE CHRONIC DEPRESSION.
"NOBODY LIKES ME" NOBODY WANT'S TO BE AROUND ME"
B. FEELINGS OF REJECTION CAN MAKE PEOPLE APPEAR TO BE
COLD, UNFRIENDLY AND EVEN RUDE TOWRDS OTHERS.
C. FEELING OF REJECTION CAN PRODUCE AN ELEMENT OF
SELFISHNESS AND SELF-CENTEREDNESS IN PEOPLE. A
PERSON WHO IS ALWAYS TALKING ABOUT THEMSELVES OR
MAKING REFERENCE TO THEIR ACCOMPLISHMNETS IS
PROBABLY A PERSON THAT IS FEELING REJECTED AND
UNWANTED.
D. A PERSON THAT IS ALWAYS TRYING TO PLEASE EVERYBODY
OR SERVE EVERYBODY THEY ARE AROUND CAN BE TRYING
TO EARN THE RIGHT TO BE ACCEPTED OR RECOGNIZED. IT
CAN PRODUCE A FALSE SENSE OF HUMILITY.
AS A RESULT OF ADAM AND EVES DESIRE FOR EQUALITY WITH
GOD AND THEIR FALL INTO SIN, THEIR ENTIRE IDENTITY
SHIFTED. UNTIL THE FALL THEY WERE SECURE, LOVED AND
CONFIDENT ( THINGS THAT GOD NOW WANTS TO RESTORE IN OUR
LIVES WHEN WE GET VICTORY OVER GUILT). THE REASON THEY
FELT THIS WAY WAS BECAUSE THEY WERE IN RIGHT RELATION-
SHIP WITH GOD. THEY DID NOT HAVE TO STRIVE TO FIND OR
MAINTAIN THEIR IDENTITY, AND THEY DID NOT HAVE TO WORK
TO ENHANCE THEIR SELF-ESTEEM, OVERCOME FEELINS OF IN-
FERIORITY OR AVOID FEELINGS OF GUILT. BUT SINCE THE
FALL THEY HAD TO BE CONTINULLY DOING SOMETHING TO MASK
OR COVER WHO THEY ACTUALLY WERE AND WHO THEY DESIRED TO BE OR WERE CREATED TO BE. THAT HAS LEFT THE HUMAN RACE FEELING FEARFUL, ANXIOUS, INSECURE, UNLOVED, DEPRESSED AND FRUSTRATED LIVES. BUT CHRIST HAS COME TO RESTORE OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD AND TO GIVE US VICTORY OVER GUILT FEELINGS BY THE BLOOD OF JESUS, THE WORD OF GOD, THE WITNESS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT AND THE UNCONDITIONAL LOVE, ACCEPTANCE AND FORGIVENESS OF GOD. SO THE ABSCENCE OF GUILT SHOULD RESTORE US TO RIGHT RELATIONSHIP WITHIN OURSELVES BETWEEN OURSELVES AND ULTIMATELY WITH GOD.
FOR THE REMAINDER OF OUR TIME TOGETHER THIS MORNING
I WANT TO SHARE WITH YOU SEVEN THINGS THAT THE BIBLE SAYS
WE CAN EXPERIENCE WHEN WE OVERCOME FEELINGS OF GUILT.
THE ABSENCE OF GUILT WILL PRODUCE
THESE 7 THINGS IN YOUR LIFE:
1. THE ABSCENCE OF GUILT WILL PRODUCE A SENSE OF
BOLDNESS AND CONFIDENCE IN THE BELIEVER'S LIFE. GUILT
CAUSES A PERSON TO QUESTION THEIR OWN VALUE, WORTH,
AND IMPORTANCE. LET'S LOOK AT SOME SCRIPTURES ABOUT
OUR BOLDNESS IN CHRIST:
1 John 4:16 And we have known and believed the love
that God hath to us. God is love; and he
that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and
God in him. (KJV)
1 John 4:17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we
may have boldness in the day of judgment:
because as he is, so are we in this world.
BOLDNESS
Strong's # 3954 parrhesia (par-rhay-see'-ah);from 3956 and a derivative of 4483; all
out-spokenness, i.e. frankness,
bluntness, publicity; by implication,
assurance:
KJV-- bold (X -ly, -ness, -ness of
speech), confidence, X freely, X
openly, X plainly (-ness). (DIC)
1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love
casteth out fear: because fear hath
torment. He that feareth is not made
perfect in love. (KJV)
2 Tim 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear;
but of power, and of love, and of a sound
mind. (KJV)
Eph 3:12 In whom we have boldness and access with
confidence by the faith of him. (KJV)
Eph 3:13 Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my
tribulations for you, which is your glory.
Eph 3:14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father
of our Lord Jesus Christ, (KJV)
Eph 3:15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth
is named, (KJV)
Eph 3:16 That he would grant you, according to the
riches of his glory, to be strengthened with
might by his Spirit in the inner man; (KJV)
Phil 1:20 According to my earnest expectation and my
hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but
that with all boldness, as always, so now
also Christ shall be magnified in my body,
whether it be by life, or by death. (KJV)
Acts 4:13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and
John, and perceived that they were unlearned
and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they
took knowledge of them, that they had been
with Jesus. (KJV)
Acts 4:14 And beholding the man which was healed
standing with them, they could say nothing
against it. (KJV)
1 John 2:28 And now, little children, abide in him;
that, when he shall appear, we may have
confidence, and not be ashamed before him
at his coming. (KJV)
1 John 3:21 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then
have we confidence toward God. (KJV)
1 John 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in
him, that, if we ask any thing according to
his will, he heareth us: (KJV)
2. THE ABSCENCE OF GUILT WILL INCREASE OUR ABIITY TO
WALK IN FAITH AND LIVE AN OVERCOMING LIFESTYLE.
1 John 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the
world: and this is the victory that
overcometh the world, even our faith. (KJV)
1Tim 3:9 Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. (KJV)
1Jn 3:19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth,
and shall assure our hearts before him. (KJV)
1Jn 3:20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater
than our heart, and knoweth all things. (KJV)
1Jn 3:21 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then
have we confidence toward God. (KJV)
1Jn 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him,
because we keep his commandments, and do those
things that are pleasing in his sight. (KJV)
3. THE ABSCENCE OF GUILT SHOULD GIVE US A SENSE OF
BEING ACCEPTED BY GOD. EVERYBODY NEEDS TO FEEL WANTED
AND GOD ACCEPTS US UNCONDITIONALLY IN CHRIST.
John 6:37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to
me; and him that cometh to me I will in no
wise cast out. (KJV)
Eph 1:6 To the praise of the glory of his grace,
wherein he hath made us accepted in the
beloved. (KJV)
Psalms 68:6 God setteth the solitary in families: he
bringeth out those which are bound with
chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry
land. (KJV)
Ps 27:10 When my father and my mother forsake me, then
the LORD will take me up. (KJV)
Psa 4:3 But know that the LORD hath set apart him that
is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I
call unto him. (KJV)
2Cor 5:9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or
absent, we may be accepted of him. (KJV)
Rom 8:35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?
shall tribulation, or distress, or
persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or
peril, or sword? (KJV)
Rom 8:36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed
all the day long; we are accounted as sheep
for the slaughter. (KJV)
Rom 8:37 Nay, in all these things we are more than
conquerors through him that loved us. (KJV)
Rom 8:38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor
life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor
powers, nor things present, nor things to
come, (KJV)
Rom 8:39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature,
shall be able to separate us from the love of
God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (KJV)
Isa 41:17 When the poor and needy seek water, and there
is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst,
I the LORD will hear them, I the God of
Israel will not forsake them. (KJV)
Isa 41:18 I will open rivers in high places, and
fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will
make the wilderness a pool of water, and the
dry land springs of water. (KJV)
Heb 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness;
and be content with such things as ye have:
for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor
forsake thee. (KJV) TRIPLE NEGATIVE
4. THE ABSCENCE OF GUILT WILL BUILD OUR SELF-ESTEEM AND
GIVE US A SENSE OF VALUE AND WORTH.
2 Cor 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a
new creature: old things are passed away;
behold, all things are become new. (KJV)
2 Cor 5:18 And all things are of God, who hath
reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ,
and hath given to us the ministry of
reconciliation; (KJV)
2 Cor 5:19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling
the world unto himself, not imputing their
trespasses unto them; and hath committed
unto us the word of reconciliation. (KJV)
2 Cor 5:20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as
though God did beseech you by us: we pray
you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to
God. (KJV)
2 Cor 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who
knew no sin; that we might be made the
righteousness of God in him. (KJV)
1 John 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath
bestowed upon us, that we should be called
the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth
us not, because it knew him not. (KJV)
Romans 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of
bondage again to fear; but ye have received
the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry,
Abba, Father. (KJV)
Romans 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our
spirit, that we are the children of God:
Romans 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God,
and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that
we suffer with him, that we may be also
glorified together. (KJV)
Rev 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful
witness, and the first begotten of the dead,
and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto
him that loved us, and washed us from our sins
in his own blood, (KJV)
Rev 1:6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and
his Father; to him be glory and dominion for
ever and ever. Amen. (KJV)
Exodus 28:1 And take thou unto thee Aaron thy brother,
and his sons with him, from among the
children of Israel, that he may minister
unto me in the priest's office, even Aaron,
Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar,
Aaron's sons. (KJV)
Exodus 28:2 And thou shalt make holy garments for Aaron
thy brother for glory and for beauty.
6. THE ABSCENCE OF GUILT SHOULD FUILFILL THE NEED TO BE
LOVED BECAUSE GOD LOVES US WITH AGAPE LOVE OR GIFT
LOVE. WE DON'T HAVE TO EARN IT OR QUALIFY FOR RECEIV-
ING HIS LOVE ITS GIVEN UNCONDITIONALLY IN CHRIST!
Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in
that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died
for us. (KJV)
1 John 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God
toward us, because that God sent his only
begotten Son into the world, that we might
live through him. (KJV)
1 John 4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but
that he loved us, and sent his Son to be
the propitiation for our sins. (KJV)
1 John 4:16 And we have known and believed the love
that God hath to us. God is love; and he
that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. (KJV)
1 John 4:17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we
may have boldness in the day of judgment:
because as he is, so are we in this world.
1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love
casteth out fear: because fear hath
torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. (KJV)
1 John 4:19 We love him, because he first loved us.
7. THE ABSCENCE OF GUILT SHOULD INCREASE OUR JOY AND
STRENGTH IN THE LORD.
Ps 16:11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy
presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand
there are pleasures for evermore. (KJV)
Ps 51:3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin
is ever before me. (KJV)
Ps 51:4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and
done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest
be justified when thou speakest, and be clear
when thou judgest. (KJV)
Ps 51:5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin
did my mother conceive me. (KJV)
Ps 51:6 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward
parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make
me to know wisdom. (KJV)
Ps 51:7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean:
wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Ps 51:8 Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the
bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.
Ps 51:9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all
mine iniquities. (KJV)
Ps 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a
right spirit within me. (KJV)
Ps 51:11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take
not thy holy spirit from me. (KJV)
Ps 51:12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and
uphold me with thy free spirit. (KJV)
Psa 51:13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and
sinners shall be converted unto thee. (KJV)
Neh 8:10 Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the
fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions
unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for
this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye
sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your
strength. (KJV)
Neh 8:10 Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the
fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions
unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for
this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye
sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your
strength. (KJV)
Ps 144:12 That our sons may be as plants grown up in
their youth; that our daughters may be as
corner stones, polished after the similitude
of a palace: (KJV)
Psa 144:13 That our garners may be full, affording all
manner of store: that our sheep may bring
forth thousands and ten thousands in our
streets: (KJV)
Psa 144:14 That our oxen may be strong to labour; that
there be no breaking in, nor going out; that
there be no complaining in our streets.
Psa 144:15 Happy is that people, that is in such a
case: yea, happy is that people, whose God
is the LORD. (KJV)
Ps 146:5 Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his
help, whose hope is in the LORD his God:
THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT GOD HAS MADE PROVISION IN THE
NEW COVANANT FOR EVERY BELIEVER TO OVERCOME GUILT. OUR
MINDS MUST BE RENEWED AND OUR CONSCIENCE REPROGRAMED
IN ORDER FOR US TO LIVE FREE FROM GUILT. SINCE GUILT
IS THE RESULT OF OUR STINKIN THINKING WE MUST CHANGE
THE WAY WE THINK ABOUT OURSELVES AND ACCEPT BY FAITH,
NOT FEELING, WHAT GOD SAYS ABOUT US IN HIS WORD AND ACT
UPON IT REJECTING AND REBUKING ALL THOUGHTS AND
FEELINGS ASSOCIATED WITH GUILT: LOW SELF-ESTEEM,
FEELINGS OF CONDEMNATION, FEELINGS OF THE FEAR OF
PUNISHMENT AND FEELINGS OF REJECTION. WE MUST BE
WILLING TO WORK OUT OUR SALVATION ACCORDING TO THE WORD
OF GOD.
Phil 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always
obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now
much more in my absence, work out your own
salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God
that works in you both to will and to do according
to His good pleasure
