Born in Sayabec, Quebec on November 22nd, 1974, David Pelletier grew up in Lachine, Quebec. He became skating at age three and trained under Josee PIcard and Eric Gilles in Boucheville, Quebec.
Julie Laporte was Daid's first ever pairs partner and together they won both the Novice and Junior National titles and came in seventh at the 1992 Junior Worlds. But after 1993 nationals David decided it was time for a change and began skating withAllison Gaylor. The pair had the chance to work with former world champions Isabelle Brasseur and Lloyd Eisler. After a great skate at the 1995 Nationals they earned the right to compete at the 1995 Worlds in England. David almost had the chance to compete in both the singles and pairs events after taking second place in the short program but fell to fourth after the long. In their first ever international event, David and Allison finished fifteenth at the World Championships.
The following season ws very difficult for them. Gaylor had to have knee surgery and they had trouble regaining their confidence. After a pair of difficult skates at the 1996 nationals, the pair split up.
David's third partner was fifteen year old Caroline Roy. In only a year and a half the young girl picked up all of the pairs elements and she and david qualified for the 1998 Nationals. Sadly, the event was a very difficult one for David because only a week earlier his first partner Julie Laporte was killed in a car accident. After finishing sixth overall, David decided to end the partnership and take a break from the sport.
