AN EMOTIONAL LITA ON WINNING WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP.

CHARLOTTE, NC – Although it was Chris Jericho's night as general manager of Raw, Monday night belonged to Lita.

In one of the most brutal women's matches of all-time, Lita and Trish Stratus risked life and limb to leave Charlotte with the 20-pounds of gold known as the WWE Women's Championship. In the early part of the contest, Lita dove head first through the ropes and into the barricade, causing the thousands in attendance to wonder if she might have re-aggravated her surgically repaired neck.

Fortunately, she didn't suffer further injury, and when the dust cleared, it was Lita who was doing all of the celebrating. Ironically, her monumental victory took place only miles from her hometown of Sanford, NC.

"This is all so surreal," Lita told WWE.com only minutes after Raw went off the air. "When I found out I was going to be in the main event, I called my mom and asked her to come. She drove up to here from Atlanta, and I saw her at the very end of the night. She was sitting in the front row."

Aside from watching her daughter capture the title, Lita's mother also got to share an important night with the daredevil Diva. In a match that clearly stole the show, Lita also proved to the entire world that despite her severe neck injury – an injury so severe, some felt it might even end her career – Lita could still go.

"Right now, this ranks at the very top," Lita said, while still catching her breath. "Just being in the main event was unbelievable, and this was definitely the biggest match I've had since coming back from my neck injury. So I just feel really proud to be back to the top again."

Lita's win marks the second time she's held the Women's Title – she defeated Stephanie McMahon on August 22, 2000 in Lafayette, LA – and unlike her last run as Champion, Lita hopes to hold onto the title for more than just two months. In order or her to do that, she will need to fend of such fellow Divas as Molly Holly and her longtime foe, the former Women's Champ, Trish Stratus.

"I'm sure Trish will be trying to get [the title] back," Lita continued, while clutching the belt over he shoulder, "but when she does try, she's going to have a tough fight on her hands. I'll tell you that."
