The Genies 10s and 12s combined for a perfect 8-0 record at the 2nd Annual Mesquite Wildcats tournament at Mesquite High School, and in the process picked up their third set of “dual championships” this season. Alex Nicholls’ season-high 13 points led the 10s to a one-sided 44-3 victory over the Arizona Sting in the tournament’s first game. Game two featured a balanced attack with every Genies player breaking into the scoring column during a 33-9 defeat of the North Country Spirit. Finally, in the championship game (a rematch with the Spirit), Tessa Smith posted 14 points to lead the Genies to an easy 35-7 victory and the tournament title. For the tournament, Smith led the team with 27 points and 35 rebounds, she was followed by Nicholls (20/9), Elizabeth Rudd (17/16), Candice Bomar (13/2), Ashlin Palmer (12/5), Rebecca Rudd (10/18), Jerrica Villescaz (9/6) and Michela McGertt (4/1). The Genies 12s put together one of their most complete games of the year in the U12 finals, hammering the Arizona Sting 43-9. Scoring off of set plays, in transition, from offensive put-backs and behind the arc, the Genies displayed the total package in picking up their seventh tournament championship of the year. In sweeping through their five games undefeated, the 12s were led by Cara Bomar with 42 points and 19 rebounds, she was followed by Ashton Jones (34/39), Shana Davis (30/15), Mackenzie Flannigan (28/34), Kelsi Haugo (24/4), Amberlee Tialino (20/26), Alyssa Heeman (17/3) and Tara Rickenbach (10/12). The five victories move the Genies 12s 2005 overall record to 34-7.
