The Genies 12s turned up the defensive heat on their guests from Seattle March 31, pitching a first half shutout in route to a 46-19 victory over the St. Bernadette Panthers 8th grade team. The Panthers, visiting Arizona for a series of games against various Valley teams, were held without a point for the first 16 minutes and entered the halftime break trailing 20-0. The Genies relaxed their defensive pressure in the second half and cruised the rest of the way. The game marked the Genies second straight standout defensive performance, as the team allowed just four points in the first half of their gold medal winning game against the Arizona Elite in their last outing – the championship game of the Winter Grand Canyon State Games. Against the Panthers the Genies were led in scoring and rebounding by Ashton Jones with 12 and eight respectively; she was followed by Amber Tialino (10/4), Kelsi Haugo (10/1), Cara Bomar (6/5), Alyssa Heeman (3/0) and Tara Rickenbach (2/3). Shana Davis also contributed two rebounds and Mackenzie Flannigan chipped in three points and five boards in her Genies debut. The win moves the Genies 2005 overall record to 20-6.
