Genies Finish 2nd and 3rd at Jamboree

Between working scoretables, running concession stands, selling raffle tickets and making sure everyone in attendance had a good time, the Genies also managed to play a little basketball at the 2006 Genies Jamboree!, and in the process took away second and third place trophies. The Genies 11s reached the championship game where they dropped a 21-14 decision the Arizona Elite. The Genies led by two at halftime, but managed only three points in the second half. In previous games the Genies had routed the G-Force 36-4 and defeated the Lady AZ Silver Streaks 37-16. Tessa Smith led the Genies in scoring in each game with seven, 10 and 14 points respectively and was named to the all-tournament team. For the three tournament games she was followed by Alex Nicholls with 20 points, Candice Bomar and Elizabeth Rudd (9 each), Rebecca Rudd and Ashlin Palmer (8 each), and Michela McGertt (2). The Genies 11s overall record now stands at 26-18. The Genies 13s won their first two tournament games handily before dropping a pair of contests by a total of five points. In game one the Genies got 16 points from Alyssa Heeman and 11 from Ashton Jones in a 50-25 win over the Silver Streaks. Game two saw the Genies build a 19-point second half lead over the Arizona Thunder before settling for a 45-35 victory – Heeman and Cara Bomar paced the Genies with 11 points each. However, despite leading for much of the contest in a game three match-up with the DFAC Falcons, the Genies could not hold on and dropped a 36-35 decision. Then, in a semi-final rematch with the Thunder, the Genies again lost a late-game lead and finished on the short end of a 40-36 score. Amberlee Tialino led the Genies with a 12-point, 12-rebound performance in the final contest and was named to the all-tournament team. For the four-game tournament the Genies were led by Tialino with 34 points, 32 rebounds, nine assists and eight steals for 83 Total Stats.
