The Genies 13s posted a 3-1 mark and defeated the eventual tournament champion, but came up short in the finals of the May Madness tournament May 19-21. The Genies used an 18-0 first-half run to blow past the Phoenix Phenoms 57-21 in the tournament’s opening game. Cara Bomar dropped in four three-pointers and finished with a game-high 17 points, and Ashton Jones and Amberlee Tialino added 13 and 11 respectively to lead the Genies. In game two, the Genies raced to an early 15-2 lead before cruising to a 38-23 victory over the Silver Streaks 12s. Alyssa Heeman posted 13 points and Bomar 10 to lead the Genies. Later that same night Heeman and Kelsi Haugo led a balanced scoring attack with seven points each as the Genies defeated the DFAC Falcons by a count of 31-26. However, in a championship game rematch the following day, the Genies found themselves in a 13-point halftime hole, and despite closing the gap to four points late in the contest eventually fell by the count of 46-36. For the tournament the Genies were led by Ashton Jones with 31 points, 29 rebounds, seven assists and nine steals for 76 Total Stats. She was followed by Heeman (39+5+18+5=67TS), Bomar (36+13+2+6=57TS), Amberlee Tialino (22+15+9+10=56TS), Tara Rickenbach (11+9+11+12=43TS), Haugo (18+2+4+2=26TS) and Shana Davis (5+8+0+4=17TS). The Genies overall record now stands at 28-16.
