Jeremiah Massey scored 31 pts and grabbed 11 boards as Oxnard (7-3) overcame a slow start to beat College of the Canyons (4-6) at COC.
The Condors missed their first 11 shots and fell behind 10-0 and 20-8, and still trailed by 10 early in the second half before rallying. SG Erik Webb had a huge game off the bench for Oxnard with 15 pts, 7 asts and 4 rebs. PG Thomas Caveness dished out 5 asts and helped the Condor rally despite playing the final 10:55 with 4 fouls.
COC started off well behind the strong play of SF Everett Bryson, who finished with 19 pts and a game-high 14 rebounds. PF John Chapman added 13 pts. SG Matt Nelsen scored 15 pts, all in the second half, after missing his first 9 shots of the night.
Bryson and Chapman also combined to deny the ball to Massey early on, and Oxnard responded by shooting and missing a lot of perimeter shots. But once Webb, SF Thomas Porter (10 pts) and SG Ryan Frutos (10 pts) started making some shots, Oxnard got back into the game. And after Chapman picked up his 4th foul early in the second half, the Condors rallied from being down 47-37 to take a 65-53 lead, and they led by at least 6 the rest of the way.
