The Las Positas Shootout took place July 23 & 24 at beautiful (air-conditioned!) Las Positas College in Livermore.
I attended 11 games over the two days, and saw each of the 15 teams that played at least once.
What's Posted: There are box scores from the games I saw, a brief game-by-game summary for all 11 games, and my selections for All-Stars & Most Valuable Player. As you might expect, it's just about impossible to keep records on the 200 or so players involved without there being some mistakes. I've made an effort to be accurate, but if anyone finds any mistaken identifications or name misspellings, please tell me. I'll change them as soon I as know better!
On the Box Scores: The game format at the DVC is unique. There are two halves with running time, but the first half was 25 minutes and the second half 20 minutes. Then, if the game was close, the teams continued to a "target score". That is figured by adding four points to the score of whichever team is in the lead when time runs out. Each game took about an hour and obviously the stats are going to be affected by the shorter playing time. As a rule of thumb, I'd recommend multiplying all the numbers by 1.5 to get an accurate comparison with a regular season game. So if someone scored 10 pts in a Showcase game, it would be comparable to 15 pts in a regular season game. The same goes for the other stats, particularly rebounds and assists. As always, I kept my full slate of usual stats for the games.
Another thing to mention is the free-throw format: free throws were condensed to keep the game moving. If a player was awarded 2 shots (or a 1-and-1), he was awarded one point automatically, and shot one free throw for the other point. If the player was fouled when attempting a 3-pointer, two points were awarded automatically and he would shoot the free throw for the third point.
Also, there were no foulouts. I kept track of individual fouls, but there were no consequences for having 5 or even 6 fouls besides having that show up in these box scores.
