Five players scored in double figures for #10-North Chabot, which shot 52% and made 13 three-pointers in an extremely entertaining 102-98 win over College of the Siskiyous in the first round of the 7th Annual Las Positas Tip-Off Thursday evening in Livermore.
Actually, both teams shot 52% in the game, which was up-tempo and featured plenty of offense throughout the game.
And Chabot (1-0) overcame a remarkable performance from SF Watkins Williams of the Siskiyous, who scored 16 of his team's first 18 points and ended the game with 34 pts on 15-for-21 from the floor.
Williams powered the Eagles (0-1) to an early 18-13 lead by making his first six shots of the game and then, after missing one, draining a 3-pointer. He would go 10-for-11 from the floor in the first half alone for 22 points before the break.
When Williams went to the bench for a rest, Chabot went on a 10-1 run to take a 23-19 lead midway through the first half. After Williams returned, the lead went back and forth the rest of the half, which ended with Chabot holding a narrow 56-53 advantage.
After shooting 63% in the first half, Siskiyous started the second half by missing 6 of its first 7 shots, allowing Chabot to extend its lead. A basket by PF John Darwin after a steal by SF Damarius Jones made it 65-55 just 3:02 into the half.
Chabot extended its lead to as many as 13 points after a 3-pointer by PG Evan Wiley, the Gladiators' 12th trey of the game, made it 78-65. Chabot held 93-83 lead with just a few minutes left.
Siskiyous made one last charge, cutting the deficit to two points at 95-93 after a 3-pointer by Williams with 1:47 left.
But Chabot never surrendered the lead. Two free throws by PG Jalen Rogers and one free throw each by Jones and Ctr Neshard Walker in the final minute helped the Gladiators seal the win.
Darwin led Chabot with 18 pts on 7-for-9 from the floor. PG Greg Brown had 17 pts and 4 asts, and Wiley had 15 pts including 3 threes. Rogers came off the bench for 14 pts including 4 threes. Walker had 11 pts and a game-high 8 rebs.
For the Eagles, Williams led all scorers with his 34 pts and he also had a team-best 7 rebs. PG Lavar Moore had an outstanding game with 22 pts and a game-high 8 asts. Ctr Jon Biglow had 13 pts and PF Raysean Garrett had 11.
