BUFFALO, New York (Ticker) -- After a summer of uncertainty, the Buffalo Sabres blitzed the Ottawa Senators, 6-3, in their first preseason game at HSBC Arena.
The Sabres played at home for the first time since the NHL took control of the team following the legal problems of the Rigas family. A good crowd was on hand to see linemates Chris Gratton and Miroslav Satan each collect two goals and an assist.
The crowd also was part of "Bruce Almighty," a new movie starring Jim Carrey that was filmed during the game.
Gratton scored twice and Satan once in the second period as Buffalo took a 3-2 lead. The Sabres added three goals in the third as Satan struck on the power play with 8:33 remaining to make it 5-3.
Martin Biron stopped 11 of 12 shots but former Hobey Baker Award winner Ryan Miller was beaten on the first shot he faced for Buffalo.
Ottawa enforcer Chris Neil injured his left leg in a fight with Sean McMorrow near the end of the second period.
