FORTIN

Photo Gallery

Thanks to an iron mine high up in the hills, the road to El Fortin is wide and well-maintained.

Juan Blake getting ready to switch over to the main rope which was suspended in the center of the pit to avoid abrasion from the sloping sides.

John Pint on the main rope. We don't go into a new pit, no matter how shallow, without ascending gear at the ready ... after running into both carbon dioxide and killer bees on several occasions. Note how Zotz sit-harness puts weight on the butt without constricting thighs.

At the bottom. It would appear that some poor animal was thrown into the pit with its legs wired together.

There is actually something to look at in this pit besides bones and garbage.
