Jason Isaacs as Colonel William Tavington
Background.
Jason Isaacs (Colonel William Tavington) has co-starred in such films as Neil Jordan's recent "The End of the Affair" and Michael Bay's "Armageddon." In addition, he has appeared in three Paul Anderson directed movies: the sci-fi thriller "Event Horizon," "Soldier" with Kurt Russell, and the British cult film "Shopping." He appeared in "Dragonheart" with Dennis Quaid and made his feature film debut in "The Tall Guy" opposite Jeff Goldblum and Emma Thompson. Born in Liverpool, England, he attended Bristol University where in addition to studying the law, he also managed to direct and/or star in over twenty theater productions. Upon graduation, he attended London's prestigious Central School of Speech and Drama, which led to a role as a series regular for two seasons on the British show "Capitol City." Other British television credits include Linda LaPlante's controversial mini-series "Civvies," opposite Peter O'Toole, "Taggert," in which he played identical twins and a CBS miniseries "The Last Don 2." On stage, he appeared in the Royal National Theatre production of the Pulitzer Prize-winning "Angels in America - parts 1 & 2."
Jason Isaacs plays Colonel William Tavington, a character suggested by Colonel Banastre Tarleton, a British officer serving under Cornwallis. Tartleton was nicknamed "Bloody Ban the Butcher," for his policy of killing surrending troops. This practice became known as "Tarleton's Quarter." Tarleton fought against Colonel Daniel Morgan in many southern battles and skirmishes, including the key Battle of Cowpens.
