Hotaru had a hard time at the start. When she was very small, her mother died, and when she was 4, in a strange Lab explosion, she was killed. Her father, who would have done anything to save her, sold their bodies to Pharaoh 90, who created the explosion on porpoise, and possessed her with the evil Mistress 9.
With certain struggles, she was able to destroy the Mistress and turn into the hated and dangerous Senshi of Destruction: Sailor Saturn, where after defeating Pharaoh 90, instead of dying, she turned into a baby, whom was given to her father who lost any memory on his past. When Neherenia was about, she had to recover her original powers and even turns into an evolved form: Super Sailor Saturn, who gives similar powers to her teammates, just to find out that it was a setup made by Sailor Galaxia to mature her starseed to kill her for it.
She is a very close pal to Chibi Usa, but gets a bit distant to her in the Stars series. She is the Sailor who appears in the least amount of episodes in Sailor form (some nifty 5 episodes), and she has no official transformation in the anime, there is (and I have seen an animated video of it) a mysterious transformation in a playstation game, but I am not sure of it...)
As Sailor Saturn, she has the incredible and dangerous power of destruction, making her one of the most powerful senshi in the group.
