The Kidnapping

Part 1
Everyone was silent, no one said a word, the room was quiet, no sounds could be heard. Except for the sound of the waves crashing against the shore outside on the beach. The tension in the room was growing by the second as they all awaited the next phone call from him.
Sitting on the sofa was Tess, looking or rather pretending to look
worried. But in reality she knew her whole plan was coming together
perfectly. Tim sat beside her, wondering what all of this meant for everyone
living under the Evans roof. He was completely unaware of his new
girlfriend's secret agenda.
Maria sat on the other end of the sofa, staring off into space as she thought
about all the awful things that could have happened to her son.
Ben was the only one moving around as he paced the room, wearing the
floor in. He would stop in front of the desk that had the phone on it every
so often and wait for a few seconds, when it didn't ring he would continue
his pacing.
Sara and Casey stood outside on the balcony on the lookout in case the
man who had taken Benjy should come into sight. They held hands tightly.
Back inside Meg stood alone behind the sofa by the staircase. She was
playing with her wedding rings, like she always did when she was nervous. She was using all of the willpower inside of her not to run over to Ben and hold him tightly. She so wanted to just hug him, and say
"Don't worry it will be all right, and no matter what I am here for you." But
Meg knew she couldn't, and that alone hurt more than anything. This was all
her fault, she thought
"I deserve every moment of pain I'm feeling" she told herself. "How could
I let him out of my sight, am I crazy?" And even though she was extremely
worried about Benjy, her mind would always wander back to Ben. "Ben probably hates me! I don't blame him either, I let his son be kidnapped. How could he not be absolutely furious with me? What will happen now?" Her eyes found themselves staring at Ben, still pacing "Oh Ben what have I done?" she wondered.
Meg's thoughts were suddenly interrupted by the phone ringing. Everyone froze for a moment, then they all stood up and gathered around Ben who answered.
"Ben Evans"
"Why Hello Mr. Evans" Jake replied into the phone
"Where's my son??? Where is he?" Ben yelled
"Oh you'll find out soon enough, bring my money under the pier. Alone, no
police, I mean it Evans!"
"I swear you better have my son, and he better not be hurt. Or I swear I'll.."
"You'll what?" Jake cut in "You are in no position to make threats Evans.
Just be there in ten minutes, and have my money, all of it"

"Damn" Ben muttered under his breath as he hung up the phone
"What Ben? What did he say?" Maria demanded
"I have to meet him under the pier in ten minutes, If I have the money he'll
give Benjy back, safe."
"Oh thank God!" Maria hugged Ben.
Meg stood back watching them embrace, she held back the tears that were
forming in her eyes.
"Ben you want me to go with you?" Casey asked as him and Sara came back inside the house. Ben disengaged from Maria,
"No, Casey, he said come alone. I will be back as soon as I have Benjy." He looked at Maria "I'll bring him back, I promise."
"I know. " she replied
Ben grabbed the briefcase containing the money. Meg quickly moved behind Sara where she couldn't make eye contact with Ben. She wasn't sure what he was thinking, but knew that if she looked into his eyes she would be able to read his thoughts. Thoughts she wasn't ready to face. Ben looked back at everyone feeling as if something was missing. He saw Meg standing behind Sara, noticing how she wouldn't look at him in the eyes. He sighed as he said
"I'll be back soon." And with that he left.
Part 2
"Casey I don't care what happened, they shouldn't be treating her like this."
Sara whispered, back on the balcony with Casey.
"Sara, I know you just want to help her be happy, and stick up for Meg. But I
don't think you should start anything with Tess and Maria tonight."
"I won't, I won't. I'm sorry It's just sometimes I get so mad and upset for
Meg. Then I feel guilty for being so happy with you, when her life is falling
apart around her." She looked up at him
"Sara don't worry it will work out. Ben and Meg love each other so much,
they'll get through this." He stroked her cheek
"I know " she smiled "Lets go back in the house, Meg needs our support right now."
"All right" They head back in.
"Maria can I get you anything?" Tess asked
"No thanks Tess."
"Are you sure Maria, I can get you anything you'd like." Meg chimed in trying to be helpful.
"Oh so you can get me my son back?" Maria snapped
"I'm sorry I didn't..." Meg trailed off, stunned by Maria's reaction.
"Yeah Meg I think you've done enough" Tess said
"Excuse me?"
"Well, come on Meg, I mean it's pretty obvious you wanted Benjy gone. Just so you could have Ben to yourself. I mean otherwise why would you take your eyes away from him?" Tess yelled
"Tess I didn't do this on purpose, I swear it! I love Ben, and I would never
do anything to hurt him, Benjy is his son for God's sake. He's just a little
boy, for you to even think I would do something like this on purpose is
insane!" She screamed back
"All right guys come on!" Casey stepped between the two of them "Lets not
fight, this is no one's fault. It just happened, we have to stay strong for
Benjy."
"Your right Casey, I'm sorry, I'm sorry Tess, Maria." Meg stepped back
Part 3
Ben walked under the pier looking for Jake "All right, I'm here. Now where
are you, and where is my son?" He yelled. Jake came out from the shadows
"Well, there you are Evans, I thought you'd never get here."
"Where's my son?"
"More importantly where's my money?" Jake replied
"You'll get your money as soon as I see my son safe, now where is he?"
"He's safe and sound don't worry."
"No if you want any money you show him to me now!"
"All right, all right" Jake gave in realizing he wouldn't make any money if
this kept going on. "See that car over there?" He walked Ben around the
corner and pointed towards the street.
"Yeah"
"Well your boy, is safely buckled in the back-seat, coloring"
"I want to see him" Ben demanded
"Don't push your luck Evans, where's the money?"
"I told you it's right here" He held up the briefcase
"All right we'll make the tradeoff by the car." As they walked over to the
car Benjy looked out of the window and smiled as he waved at Ben.
"Lets get this over with Jake, I'll put the briefcase down, and you put down
the car keys"
"All right, but Evans you better not try any tricks." Jake warned
"I won't do anything stupid all right? Lets just do this." Slowly they both
bent down, Jake dropped the keys to the ground. Ben carefully set down the briefcase, but then quickly picked it back up along with the keys.
"Evans what the hell are you doing?" Jake screamed
"I want Benjy out of the car first" Ben quickly unlocked the car door and
Benjy jumped out, latching on to Ben's leg.
"Daddy!" Benjy yelled
"Hey son, listen I want you to go right over there" Ben pointed to a spot
over on the beach.
"Oh no you don't Evans" Jake tried to stop him, but Benjy was already half
way there "Evans you are going to pay for that"
"Oh really, how's that?"
"Oh Evans you think you are so smart, well you better just give me the money NOW, or else..." Jake pulled out a gun from his pocket
"All right, all right, calm down. Here's your money." Ben set the briefcase
back on the ground again. Just as Jake went to reach for it though Ben jumped on top of him. The two fell to the ground struggling.

Back at the house things had settled down a bit, but everyone was beginning to get a little worried since Ben had been gone for longer than expected.
"Listen I can't stand it anymore, I need to know if Benjy is okay. I'm going
out to look for them." Maria stated suddenly.
"No, Maria, you can't this guy could be dangerous." Casey replied
"No, Casey I need to know how he is."
"Fine then I'll go see what I can find out okay?"
"No, Casey! Ben said he was supposed to go alone, I don't want you getting hurt!" Sara pleaded
"I'll be fine babe, I've gotta help him out okay? He's my friend, and he may
need me for Benjy's sake."
"Oh Casey please be careful sweetie."
"I will I promise" He kissed her gently then turned around "Tim I am trusting
you to look after them." Casey said with a hint of uncertainty in his voice.
"Don't worried Casey, I've got it covered." He replied
"Yeah I'm sure." Casey said under his breath before he walked out of the house
"Be careful!" Sara yelled after him "Oh God why did I let him go?" Sara then asked herself
"As if you could stop 'Mr. Baywatch' " Tess replied bluntly
Sara turned around "What?"
"Oh come on he always has to be the hero, and it's annoying. Especially when it involves the safety of a little boy."
"Oh you know what..." Sara began angrily walking towards Tess
"Sara, Sara just let it go." Tim intervened
"Oh shut up Tim!" Sara yelled
"Listen Tess lets just go get a glass of water or something."
"Oh all right Tim" Tess replied as they walked into the kitchen
"Oh God he's so annoying." Sara said to herself.
Maria, Meg and Sara all slowly drifted to different parts of the room. Meg
found herself on the balcony. "What's taking Ben so long?" She wondered "Oh well the sooner he gets back the sooner I'll have to ... to face what's right in front of me, a family, his family. I just don't know I f I can do that."
Part 4
Under the pier Ben and Jake struggled by the car, the gun still in Jake's
hand. Casey came running up to them once he saw what was going on. "Ben!" He yelled out
"Casey, go get Benjy! Take him back tot he house!"
"No, Ben, I've got to help you!" He tried to get on top of Jake, who was on
top of Ben, but Jake threw him off.
"Casey please take Benjy home, I can deal with him, and call the police."
Casey hesitated "No Ben, I gotta help you." Ben looked over at Casey, and
Jake turned to look as well. Ben used this as an advantage and he rolled on top of Jake. Then punched him a few times, and knocked him out.
"All right Casey go, take Benjy then call the police. I'm going to make sure
he doesn't get away!"
"Okay I'll be right back Ben" Casey hurried over to where Benjy was and
scooped him up. He ran with him back towards the house to call the cops.
On the balcony Meg could hear people yelling, and immediately got worried
about Ben. She looked inside the house to make sure no one was looking then walked down the stairs towards the road.

Ben paced nervously, wishing he had brought his own cellphone to call the
cops himself. He looked at Jake lying on the ground, Ben knew he would
probably come to any minute now. "Hurry up Casey" he muttered. He turned his head to look back towards the house, after a few moments he began to turn back around when suddenly he was hit hard on the back of the head with the gun. Jake had come to, and wasn't happy. Ben fell unconscious to the ground.
Part 5
Casey opened the front door as Benjy leaped out of his arms and ran to Maria
"Mommy!"
"Oh Benjy!" Maria exclaimed as she clutched him close to her. "Your okay
sweetie, oh thank God."
"Oh Casey" Sara ran to him "Where's Ben?"
"He's still with Jake, he punched him out. We need to call the police, hey
where's Meg?"
"Oh don't worry she's out on the balcony." Sara replied
"Oh okay, listen I'm going to call the police" Casey dialed 911

Meg heard a scream and turned the corner to see Jake hit Ben with the gun, and Ben fall to the ground. "Ben!" She shrieked. She ran for him but Jake was quicker. He grabbed her arm tightly and shoved her in the car. He could hear sirens getting closer and closer, he might not have the kid anymore, but something told him that this little gem was worth more to that Evans guy. He picked up the keys Ben had dropped and locked all of the doors as he got in. Then he sped away into the night.
"No please I need to get to Ben!" Meg yelled as the car turned the corner
just missing the police's sight. She felt a tear run down her cheek as she
took one last glance of Ben's limp body still lying motionless on the ground.

Back at Ben's house Sara could hear the faint sound of sirens, she looked
towards the rest of the group.
"Hey I can hear sirens lets go see if Ben took care of everything."
"What? Sirens?" Tess asked worriedly as she came back from the kitchen with Tim
"We called the police Tess" Casey answered
Tess looked startled at Casey, but then saw Benjy "Oh Benjy! Your okay
sweetie!" She ran to him and picked him up "Thank God you are okay" She
kissed his forehead, trying to hide the fact that she was worried about Jake, and if he got away in time.
"Come on lets go, let me just get Meg." Sara walked out to the balcony only
to see Meg was nowhere in sight. "That's funny I could have sworn she was out here, oh well she must have heard the sirens and went on ahead"
"Yeah I'm sure she's fine" Casey added "Lets go" They all headed towards the road where they could see the blinking lights on the cop cars.
Ben grasped his head "I'm telling you that's all I remember, being hit in the
head with the gun, and then falling down" He told the officer impatiently
"All right Mr. Evans, I guess that will do for now. But we are going to need
to question you more in a little bit" The officer walked over to his car to
fill out his report
"Ben!" Maria screamed as she ran over to him and hugged him
"Where's Jake, Ben?" Casey asked as he scanned the road for a glimpse of him
"He got away, he hit me with he gun, knocked me unconscious, and got away"
Ben explained anger getting the better of him
"Oh no, that's means he's loose" Maria worried out loud
Sara looked around trying to ignore Maria, she noticed Meg wasn't here like Casey and her had thought "Hey Ben, where's Meg?"
"What do you mean? She was at the house with all of you"
"I know but she left, we had assumed she came here"
"I never saw her" Ben said confused
"I'm sure she's fine" Maria snapped "You have all seemed to forgot that there is a kidnapper out there!"
"Maria, don't worry we will find him" Tim assured her
Tess stared out at the street thanking God that Jake had escaped, she pasted on a concerned look
"Yes Maria we will find him, no matter what," she quickly changed the subject "Listen maybe we should all go back to the house, Benjy here has had a big day," she nodded towards Benjy who was now hugging Ben "and I think he needs to get some sleep."
Maria nodded her head in agreement and they all headed back towards the house.
Sara spoke quietly to Casey as they walked "Casey something isn't right. I
mean where is Meg?"
"Sara, I'm sure she's back at the house waiting for us. Maybe she had taken a walk or something."
"With all this going on?" Sara asked sarcastically
"Well I don't know, I'm sure she is fine though. She probably went looking
for Ben, couldn't find him or us, and now she's back."
"I hope your right " She replied, uncertainty in her voice.

When they got home Maria took Benjy right to bed then came back down to join the others. "He had a big day, but he doesn't seem scared"
"That's good" Tess smiled
The phone rang suddenly, as Ben went to answer Sara silently prayed it was Meg. She wasn't in the house like Casey said, and Sara was beginning to really worry.
"Ben Evans"
"Hey Evans, long time no see" Jake's voice boomed back at Ben
"Where the hell did you go?" Ben demanded
"Oh I think you'd much rather know what I took."
"Listen I know you have the money but,"
"Oh no, no, no Evans what I took is far more valuable than money, well at
least to you."
"What are you talking about Jake?"
"Hang on for one-second Evans" he took he gag out of Meg's mouth
"Please let me go, please!" She begged him
Ben froze, he felt as if his heart had stopped. He would know that voice
anywhere, even though it was muffled by sobs, he could still tell.
"You recognize that Evans?"
"What have you done?" Ben demanded still in shock
"Oh nothing much, I just took something else that I'm guessing you really
want back. You know I wouldn't have, I mean I had the money, you were pretty out of it, but you had made me pretty angry. She just happened to be there, so I thought what the hell, why not." He snickered
"You son of a .."
"Now, now Evans don't say anything she'll regret!"
"You let her go right now, I mean it Jake, now!" Ben started yelling
"Oh no I don't think so Evans, it's not that easy."
"Well, what do you want, you got your money?"
"Yes, I did, but that wasn't really enough, not for both the kid and this
one, plus you made me so mad."
"Jake please just let her go." Ben pleaded
"Let me think about that for a minute, um nope! Hey Evans you want to talk to her?" He didn't wait for Ben to answer as he put the phone up to Meg's ear.
"Ben?" She said meekly
"Meg, are you okay? Did he hurt you, listen I promise I'll get you away form
him, I promise."
"I know you will Ben," She noticed Jake motioning for her to wrap it up so
she quickly added "Ben, if I don't get to tell you, I'm so sorry, and I love
you."
"Meg I.. I" Ben stammered as Jake got back on "Save it Evans"
"What do you want me to do now?'
"Listen you double the amount of money you gave me for the kid, after all she is such a beauty." He stroked her face "Such soft skin" Meg jerked away, and Ben cringed.
"Don't touch her!" he screamed into the receiver
"Bring all of the money to the abandoned building down the road from your
house, you'll get instructions on what do to find her from there. Well, I
have to be going, bye now."

Ben slammed the phone down
"Ben what is going on?" Sara asked fear rising in her voice
"He's got Meg, I've got to go get her."
"Oh no, Tim I told you to watch out for them when I left to help Ben." Casey
looked towards Tim
"I didn't mean for,"
"Save it Tim, I've got to go get her!"
"I'll come with you Ben."
"No, Casey you stay here, Tim's already proven to us once that's he's not
capable of handling things here. I'll be back as soon as I can."
"Okay Ben, hurry back!"
Ben rushed out the door, as Sara began to cry "Casey she has to be okay, she has to."
"She will, don't worry, Ben would never let Meg get hurt by anyone."
Maria frowned and Tess rolled her eyes.
Part 6
Ben got the money from the safe at the Deep like he had earlier in the
evening. He then rushed to the old building, once he was there he set down
the briefcase and picked up the folded note with his name on it.
Ben-
10761 Sunset Beach Drive is the address, you'll find her there, if you make
it in time. Be sure to bring the money with you I'll be waiting.
Jake
Ben grabbed the briefcase and immediately rushed to his car and drove to
Sunset Beach Drive. There were many old shut down businesses, and buildings. Ben drove around for a few minutes, he finally found it. He glanced at the note, then back at the building to make sure he had the right place. He prayed Jake wasn't playing some trick on him, and that Meg was really here. He could feel the fear in him rising "I'm coming Meg, I'm coming."
Meg sat tied up in the building Jake had brought her to. She knew Ben would come for her, but she just was so scared, and didn't know when he would be there. Her mind kept repeating what Jake had said to her before he left her
"Don't worry your lover boy is on his way, and he better have my money! I
really hope he does for your sake, because if not ... well let's just say you
will all pay."
She didn't know what Jake meant, but it couldn't be good. She didn't think he had left the building, she saw him go into another room, she assumed he was waiting for Ben to come with the money. She thought it was pretty stupid on his part. Why would he stay here? Why wouldn't he make Ben leave the money somewhere? That way he wouldn't have any trouble with Ben again. He didn't seem like the brightest crayon in the box to her, but inside she knew that was for the best. Ben wouldn't let him get away with this. There was no way he would allow this man to kidnap her and Benjy and not pay for it.
Ben walked up to the building, he tried opening the door, but it was locked.
He looked up and down the building looking for any windows or other doors.
When he didn't see any he banged on the door
"Hello, is anyone here? Meg? Meg are you in there? It's me, it's Ben. Honey
are you there?"
Meg heard Ben at the door and her heart leapt. He was here, finally he had
come to save her. She tried to yell out but Jake had put the gag back in her
mouth. She moved about on the chair she was tied to, trying to make any noise she could to let Ben know she was here.
When he didn't hear anything Ben called again "HELLO? Meg are you there? Meg?" He yelled louder this time. He was now becoming even more worried. He didn't see anymore notes from Jake telling him where to go next on this wild goose chase. What if he had taken Meg somewhere and didn't plan on bringing her back? What if he didn't want the money? No, that couldn't be it, why would he want Meg and not the money? It didn't make sense, but he was beginning to think that she wasn't here. He shouted again "MEG???"
Jake sat in the tiny room, enjoying every moment of this. He was sipping a
beer, and waiting for that Evans guy to get here. His initial plan was to
make him leave the money at the building where he left the note, but then he got to thinking.
Tess was always talking about how she hated that Meg girl, how that if she
could get rid of her all of her problems would be solved. Well, this was his
chance to be the hero, he would make sure Tess got what she wanted, and then she would love him. He was completely in love with her, everything about her. He fell for her the first time they met back in Seattle, he used to help her with a lot of different stuff, and he had fallen for her, hard.
She was perfect to him, everything about her was absolutely perfect. He had been so thrilled to hear from her when she called and asked for the favor about the boy. She had stressed the point she hated Meg, and now was the perfect time to win her love. Once he got through with Meg he would be the love of Tess's life for sure. He'd get the Evan's guy to come and give him the money, then he'd act as if he was going to let his little girlfriend go, but to the rich boy's surprise he wouldn't. He'd ruin both of them, he's sure that's what Tess would want. She's be thrilled about the girl, and when she found out he took care of Mr. Millionaire as well she'd be completely in love with him.
He smiled at the thought, but was interrupted by the sound of that damn
British accent. He could hear him practically breaking down the door, and
screaming for his woman. He chugged the rest of the beer, then stood up and headed for the door, his plan all ready.
"It's show time" he muttered and smiled wickedly.
Part 7
Ben pounded on the door one more time "Meg!" he screamed, when no one answered he cursed silently. He decided he'd go check around back for another entrance.
Meg still sat in her chair trying desperately to get the gag out of her
mouth, when Jake emerged from the little room he was in. He walked over to her chair and knelt in front of her "What, cat got your tongue?" he chuckled at his own attempt at humor. Meg narrowed her eyes on him, and gave him a look of disgust.
"I'll go let lover boy in, I'm sure you want to see him." Jake got up and
headed towards the door. He opened it to see Ben starting to go around the side of the building "Goin' somewhere Evans?"
Ben turned around and rushed towards Jake "You bastard" he shouted "Where the hell is she? I swear if you hurt her in any way I promise I will kill you myself. I won't wait for the cops to get here, I'll do it with my bare hands"
he shouted getting louder by the second. He knew he probably shouldn't get him angry, but he was so mad right now, and worried about Meg.
"Oh Evans, quit your whining, and I wouldn't be making so many threats. If
you remember correctly I do have your little girlfriend."
"Oh I remember perfectly well thank you. Now where is she?" he demanded
"Where is my money first of all?"
"It's right here" he held up the briefcase
"Hand it over"
"No, not until I have Meg back."
"Evans, you follow my orders you hear? Now give it to me"
"No, I'm not giving you anything until I have her back. "
"All right, all right, follow me." He gave in purposely, ready to put his
plan into action. He walked into the building, Ben right behind him. Once
inside he pointed to the corner where Meg was. Ben rushed over to her
immediately.
"Meg, Oh sweetie, baby, are you all right? He didn't hurt you did he? Oh
thank God your okay." He hugged her tightly, tears sprang from her eyes as
Ben held onto her. He slowly disengaged from her, then untied her gag, and
the ropes that bound her to the chair.
"Ben," she sobbed "Your here, your here" she kept repeating over and over, touching his face.
"Of course I am" he held her hand in his.
"Enough of that," Jake interrupted "I want my money, now Evans!"
Ben looked at Jake "Your not to bright are you Jake?"
"Excuse me?"
"You know I have to give you credit for kidnapping Meg. I guess that would be a smart thing to do if I were a kidnapper, but do you want to know where you went wrong?"
"Oh please Evans.."
Ben continued "You know if you really wanted to get away with this you would have made me leave the money where the note was. That way you got your money, and a clear break. And the reason you should have done that is because now there is no way in hell I'm giving you any money!" Ben shouted
"Evans, you better be kidding me," Jake pretended to get upset, but in his
mind he was thinking about how this is exactly what he wanted to happen.
"Oh I am not kidding you, you aren't only not getting your money, but your
going to jail." He pulled out his cellphone, but at the same time Jake pulled
out his gun.
"Ben!" Meg shrieked. Ben stood in front of her and dropped his cell phone.
"Jake don't do this again, we both know your not going to shoot anyone, so
just put the gun down."
"Oh that's what you think," he gave Ben a glare and pulled the trigger,
pointing it right at him. The gun went off and Ben fell to the ground
"Ben!!!!" Meg screamed and ran to his side "Ben, baby, Ben. Talk to me
please, talk to me!" Ben lifted his head
"It's okay, I'm all right it's just my arm, he just shot my arm, I'm going to
be fine." He tried to smile but the pain in his arm was so intense, it
overwhelmed him, and he couldn't stand it anymore. His head fell to the
ground, and he lost consciousness for the second time that night.
"Ben," Meg cried even harder than before "oh Ben"
Jake looked at her "You are so pathetic"
She looked up at him, her eyes were cold. She stared into the back of his
head, her heart filled with rage. She slowly stood up and plunged towards him
"You bastard!!!!!! " She tried hitting him, but he grabbed both of her wrists
"Your feisty Darlin'"
"Shut up, you are cruel, and evil. Ben never did anything to you! How could
you?" she cried again as he held a firm grip on her hands.
"Oh shut up," he threw her towards the ground "You stay there or else I
promise you I'll use this" he held up the gun "on you, and I'll make sure
your lover boy's days really are over."
Meg stayed on the ground, she didn't know how hurt Ben was, but she knew that Jake would kill him if she didn't do what she was told. She watched as he locked all of the doors and pounded big wooden boards on the windows.
"What was she going to do?" she thought. She saw Ben's cell phone and tried to inch her way towards it without Jake hearing her, but she accidentally bumped into the chair and it fell over.
"Not trying to get this were we?" he picked up the phone, and slipped it in
his pocket. "I'll hold on to this, and this as well." He grabbed the
briefcase.
"And you are going to go back over here," he grabbed her arm and pulled her towards the chair. She fought with him, but her strength wasn't anything
compared to his. He tied her up again, this time not as tight though, he knew they wouldn't be able to get out of the building. He didn't even bother with the gag.
"All right sweetie, I gotta go. You stay here, and I wouldn't bother
screaming, because there's no one around. " He gave her another grin
He once again checked all of the windows and doors, then he went back into the other room. After a few moments he came back with a box, he opened it and smiled at Meg as he took out a bomb. "This my dearie, is going to stay here with you guys,"
Meg's eyes widened with fear, " Please Jake don't do this, please" she begged
He switched a button on it and put it in the center of the room, right in
front of Meg, it had one hour on it. Jake stood up and turned towards Meg
"Well, it was really nice meeting you, hope lover boy isn't dead yet, and you
can say good-bye before your world just blows up in your face." He laughed
heartily at his dry humor. "See ya later" he walked out of the building,
bolting the door shut, and saying to himself "Tess baby, your gonna love me"
Part 8
"Casey, they should be back by now." Sara said worriedly
"Don't worry, Ben will be here soon, with Meg."
"That's all the two of you care about! Meg! God this is what she deserves,
after what she did!" Tess started to scream at Sara and Casey.
"SHUT UP TESS!!!" Sara screamed back
"Sara, sweetie.."
"No, Casey, she needs to hear this. I know you don't like my sister Tess,
you've made that pretty obvious, but she could be in real danger. All you
care about is the fact that Ben is worried about her!"
"What?"
"Oh please Tess, I'm not stupid! I saw the face you made when Ben rushed out of here to save Meg!"
"Yeah so what? Is so wrong for me to think he should be here with Benjy? Who was just kidnapped, may I remind you."
"Sara, Tess, be quiet your going to wake Benjy." Maria chimed in
"Oh stay out Maria! I wasn't going to say anything to you, because I know
you've been through a lot today."
"Excuse me Sara?"
"The way you've treated Meg, all the little snotty comments."
"Oh you know what?" Maria started pointing her finger at Sara and heading
towards her
"Woah, guys lets just all calm down. Please just calm down, this won't help
anyone okay?" Casey said as he took Sara in his arms, and tried to calm her down.
"Your right, I'm sorry. It's just I'm really worried about her, and Ben."
"We all are, but we have to believe that they will be all right. I mean Ben
is a pretty tough guy, I'm sure they are on their way home as we speak."
Little did they know Ben and Meg were not even close to being on their way
home.
At the building Meg was still tied up, but her ropes weren't quite as tight.
The bomb was right in front of her, and as it made it's little noise she
wondered how she was going to get them out of this mess. "Oh Ben, sweetie please wake up."
She stared at his lifeless body on the floor, he hadn't move at all since
Jake left. Could he have been shot somewhere else besides his arm? No, that couldn't be Jake had only shot once. But still what if the bullet had hit his chest, and he just didn't want Meg to worry. Meg's thoughts were driving her crazy, she had to know he was okay. She needed to get to him.
She pulled and tugged on her left arm's ropes with all of her strength. It
was so close to coming untied, if she could just loosen it a little more. She
moved the chair around to help her, and pretty soon it actually came undone. "Thank God" she whispered to herself. After he left arm was free she used it to untie her right arm. Then after that she untied her feet, and sprang up from her seat.
She rushed over to Ben and took him in her arms "Ben, wake up, please Ben wake up!" she shook him harder and kept repeating herself "Honey we need to get out of here, Jake has a bomb, and the doors are bolted. We have to figure out a way out, but I can't do it alone. I need you Ben, please I need you," she sobbed as she held him. She went to wipe her tears away and saw the crimson blood oozing down her hand, where Ben had been resting. She gasped in horror, and lifted his arm. The blood had made a large circular stain on his shirt. The wound was on his arm, but it was much deeper than she had thought. Even if it was only one shot, it had practically gone through him.
He needed to see a doctor soon. The blood kept flowing and Meg realized she was going to have to stop it. Without further thought she tore off a piece of her blouse and made a makeshift bandage around his arm. She tied it, but not to tightly. She stroked his head and saw how flushed he was "Oh baby, please be all right, you can't go anywhere, you can't die on me. This is all my fault she said, this is all my fault. Your here dying because of me. How could I let Jake take Benjy, and me for that matter? If I would have watched his more closely we wouldn't be in this mess," she berated herself "Oh God, please let him be all right. I'll do anything, I'll give up my own life, just let him be all right. He doesn't deserve this, I'm the one who got us in here like this, I should be punished not him. All Ben tried to do was help
everyone, he risked everything to save Benjy and me, and look where it got
him. Just let him be all right, and I promise I'll do whatever it takes, just
let him be okay," she let the tears trickle down her cheeks as she held him
closer, silently hoping that somehow, someone heard her plea.
Part 9
Ben began to moan as he came back to consciousness. Meg heard his raspy moan and immediately held him tighter, and tried to lift him up a bit. "Ben, honey, can you hear me Ben?"
"Meg?" his voice came out weak and muffled
"Yes, baby I'm here. It's going to be fine, I promise. Thank God your still
here, I thought..I thought that I'd.."
"Shhh" Ben tries to calm her down, "I'm okay I swear," he said pretty
unconvincingly. "It's just my arm hurts like hell!" he smiled despite the pain
"Don't worry were going to get you to a doctor, as soon as we get out of
here."
"What happened? Where's Jake?" he asked as he tried to sit on his own, but couldn't. Meg kept a firm hold on him
"Ben, Jake left, he took the money and left. He boarded up all of the
windows, and doors, and I tried to stop him, but he tied be up and I
couldn't, and I couldn't leave you, and "she rambled on and began to cry
"Hey, it's fine, " he motioned for her to lean into his chest and she did.
"We will figure something out, but do you mind if we just wait a little
while? I need to get back to reality," he said still groggy, and a little
dizzy.
"Ben, that's the thing, we don't have any time." Meg sobbed
"What are you talking about sweetie?"
"Ben, look right over there," she pointed towards the bomb "It's a bomb Ben, he set a bomb. We have no way out, this place is going to explode, and we are going to die." she cried even harder
Ben looked over at the bomb, and squinted to read how much time was left,
only forty-five minutes. "Oh My God, I can't believe this," he looked down at
Meg still in shock. He could tell she was scared "We will figure a way out of
here, I promise," he kissed her forehead, he didn't have any clue as to what
he should do, but he had stay strong for her.
"Ben, there is no way out, were stuck!"
"Let me see what I can do," he got up and winced in pain as his a piercing
pain shot through him.
"Ben, you can't do this, you are hurt!"
"Meg, I'll be fine, besides it looks like you already helped me out." he
looked down at the bandage
"You were bleeding so much, I tore off some my blouse," now she pointed to her torn shirt "It stopped the bleeding, for now."
"Maybe I should check for some more cuts and scrapes, I may need to use all of your shirt." He teased. Despite their circumstances Meg blushed and gave him a smile "There's that smile I love so much, now come on lets see what we can do."
"Okay" she replied as they headed over to the entrance. Ben tried opening it with his left hand, because his right arm was injured. But it was bolted shut from the outside "Damn" he muttered. He looked around the building for any open windows, or doors Jake may have missed
"Ben, I watched him lock everything, he didn't forget anything."
"Well, what about these windows? Maybe I could get these wooden boards off of them."
"But your hurt, let me try."
"Meg..."
"Ben, I'll be fine, just let me try."
"Okay" he smiled at her determination
She grabbed a chair and reached up to the high window that Jake had hammered wooden planks over it. She pulled and tugged but they didn't budge. She tried again and the chair slipped, and Meg came tumbling down.
"Meg!" Ben rushed towards her
"I'm fine, don't worry" she replied standing up "Really I'm fine" she said as
he gave her a worried look
"You sure?"
"Yes, positive. But it looks like they are too tight, Ben we are really stuck
in here," she glanced at the bomb "and there's only thirty-five minutes
remaining, what are we going to do?"
"Well I had my cell phone. " he looked around the room
"He took it, I tried to get it, but he was quicker. I'm sorry"
"Hey, it's not your fault." he hugged her to him
"Yes, it is!" she yelled and pulled away "This is all my fault! I'm the
reason you are here, hurt, I'm the reason he has all of the money, and I'm
the reason we are going to die!" the tears came down her cheeks rapidly.
"Meg, what on earth are you talking about?" he asked confused
"Ben, I'm the reason Benjy was kidnapped, Me!"
"Meg that's not true.."
"It is Ben, If I would have watched him closer, than he wouldn't have been
kidnapped. It's all my fault, and I understand if you completely hate me."
"Hate you?" Ben said in disbelief "Meg, I could never hate you, no matter
what. The kidnapping wasn't your fault, Jake had it planned, he would have
done it regardless of who was watching Benjy."
"Maybe he would have tried, but if it were you or Maria, or Tess, you would
have never given him the chance to take him. I did, I looked away and now I'm paying for it. But not just me, you too, and it's killing me inside, because
you don't deserve this. I do, but not you. All you did was try to help everyone, I'm sorry Ben, I'm sorry I did this to you."
Ben stared at her for a moment speechless, she was in so much pain, and agony over this. He didn't know how to make it go away, but he would try the only way he knew how.
"Meg, I swear I don't blame you, I love you more than anything on this whole
world. You are my life, you are everything to me, and I swear that I don't
blame you for anything that happened tonight, or earlier today. I love you"
Meg stared at Ben, she believed every word he said, but she still felt
responsible. "Ben, I don't know what to say, I love you too. I just don't
know what we can do, I want to make things right, and I want to be with you
more than anything, but it's just so hard these days."
"I know, I know, and I promise you I will make it up to you, I will figure
out a way to make this all up. I promise when we get out of here, we can move forward with our lives. We can be married, and begin to make all of our dreams come true. We will discuss things with Benjy and Maria, and Tess."
"Ben, they all hate me" she interrupted
"They don't hate you, I don't think anyone could ever hate you. Your the
most incredible person I've ever met, and we are going to be together."
"Oh Ben," she cried in his arms "I want that, I do, everything you just told
me sound like a dream, but how? It's seems like just that, a dream, right
now."
"I know, but it won't be, that's a promise. But first we need to get out of
here okay?"
"Your right, we can discuss this all later."
"Okay, now I may have an idea about how to get us out, but I'll need your
help" Ben said and silently prayed that this idea would work for both of
their sakes.
Part 10
"'Okay, on the count of three push it as hard as you can" Ben instructed Meg
He had found a piece of a wooden plank Jake hadn't used and he was holding Meg up to the window. She had the plank in her hands. He knew the plank wouldn't go through the wooden board on the window, but he was hoping that it was enough to at least crack or chip it. Then he would get up on the chair and try to pry it open again. Sure it was a long shot, but it was the one shot they had at getting out of here.
"All right, I'm ready." Meg said nervously, she knew as well that if this
didn't work, they were as good as dead.
"Okay, one...two...three" Ben said. Meg shoved the plank as hard as she could against the wood on the window. She did it two or three times before Ben motioned for her to stop. He let her down then looked up to see what had happened. The wood had formed a few chips in the boarded up window, but not much.
Ben wanted to be optimistic though, and he didn't want to worry Meg. "All
right, good job. Lets see what I can do now." He grabbed a chair and started dragging it over, but Meg stopped him.
"Ben, you know as well as me that it didn't help any," she felt tears coming
to her eyes, and her voice was beginning to quiver "We aren't going to be
able to get out of here. We are going to die Ben. Oh my God," she said as if it the realizar=tion of what was happening just hit her. "We really are going to die." she was becoming hysterical now
"Meg, Meg calm down. We aren't going to die. Come on we've been in worse situations than this, and we've always found a way out. I promise you, with everything in me I won't let you die."
Meg stared up at him amazed, he really did love her despite what she did, he still loved her. "Ben, I'm sorry I didn't mean to get so upset, but I just
am so scared," she looked him in the eyes "I really am scared that there is
no way out, and that so many people will be hurt by this. What if we don't
get out? Who will be a father to Benjy? Who will take care of him, and show
him everything he needs to know about becoming a man? He needs you Ben, and now he might never see his father again because of me."
"Meg, I told you I don't blame you, and I refuse to let you blame yourself.
Benjy is going to be fine because we are going to get out of here, I promise
you that." He tilted her chin up and smiled
"Okay, I believe you, why don't you go and see what you can do up there." He kissed her cheek then got on top of the chair. He pulled and pried, but the bolts were just to tight. He didn't want to break his promise though, he
would get them out, if it was the last thing he did.
Ben's House
"Casey something is wrong, he should be here. This is taking way to long!"
"Sara don't worry all right-"
"No, Casey you said that a long time ago and they never showed up. It has
been way to long, we need to call the police."
"No! No police!" Tess screeched
Sara, Casey and Maria looked at her in surprise "And just why not?" Sara
questioned
"Because, I, Uh, well I just think that it's better for Ben and Meg's sake."
"Well, I don't, I'm calling them." Sara picked up the phone
"Sara wait, Tess may have a point. Why don't I go look under the pier where Ben was supposed to leave the money?"
"Casey, that could be dangerous. I think it will be better if we just call
the police. This has gone on long enough."
Just then as if on cue Tess's cell phone rang
"Excuse me" she grabbed it and walked in the other room
"Hello"
"Hey Tessie, it's me Jake."
"Jake!" Tess said in a whisper "Where are you? And what did you do with Meg?"
"Oh Baby, you are going to be so proud of me! I tied her up, got that Evans
guy over to save her, locked em' both up, and put a bomb in the building. In
just a short while both their lived will come to a disturbing end." he
laughed wickedly
Tess's mind went frantic. No, this couldn't happen, she couldn't care less
about Meg, but she needed Ben. She needed him for the rest of her plans
"You did what? You stupid idiot! You could have just ruined everything!"
"What are you talking about? I thought you hated them" he asked confused
"I do, but I also need Ben for the rest of my plans. Plans you have no clue
about! I swear if he dies I will kill you! Where are they? I have got to stop
this!"
Jake didn't hesitate "They are in the old building on Sunset Avenue, 10761.
I'm sorry Tess, I didn't know..." he stammered
"Yeah you didn't!" Tess angrily replied "I knew you were stupid from the
start! I should have never thought you were capable of doing your job right,
you only have what, two brain cells?"
"I'm sorry, " he repeated "Listen you better hurry, it's gonna blow in like
twenty minutes."
"Oh no! Good-bye, you stupid piece of garbage you" she shut her cell phone off
"Damn" Jake muttered, how could he have been so stupid? He ruined everything!
Back at the house Tess went into the living room
"That was Jake" she told the rest
"What?" Maria asked
"I'm sorry he told me to keep quiet about the call, he wouldn't let me give
the phone to anyone else. I'm not even sure how he got my number. But he did and he told me something really awful, about Ben and Meg, they are in great danger and if we have any hope of saving them we have to hurry!" she said anxiously, wondering if her plan would work or not.
