Why is the Bichon so popular? The Bichon is known for it's great beauty, but those that know the breed love them for their great personalities. They are a very easy going breed and get along well with children and other pets. What color is the Bichon? The Bichon is white and can have shadings of buff, apricot, or cream. It is very common for them to have the buff, apricot, or cream on their heads or ears and occassionally on the back. The color almost always fades or disappears by the time they are 18 months old. What size are they? The Bichon size is measured in inches (measured from the top of the shoulders to the ground) and range between 9 and 12 inches. The adult Bichons weight varies between 10 and 18 lbs. What is their personality like? The Bichon is very loving, happy, affectionate, and playful. They require a lot of attention like a small child. They are not barkers or yappers and are an excellent choice for children. What about allergies? The Bichon is referred to as "non-allergenic" because they have a low dander level and are non-shedding. Many people with asthma and allergies have successfully owned a Bichon. What type of grooming do they require? Because they do not shed the Bichon does require grooming. They need to be brushed daily and we suggest grooming every 6-9 weeks depending on the length you prefer the coat. How easy are they to train? We have found them to be easy to train and strongly suggest the crate method as do many veterinarians.
