Astronomy-astronomia = astron + nomos, literally, "law of the stars") is the science of celestial phenomena that originate outside Earth's atmosphere. It studies the origins, evolution, and physical and chemical properties of celestial objects. In short, Astronomy is about finding out what is going on beyond Earth. Astronomy is one of the oldest sciences, with a scientific methodology existing at the time of Ancient Greece and advanced observation techniques possibly much earlier

TEACHING NOTES
Materials: Construction paper sheets
of all the colors. Scissors, glue, tape or stapler.
Rulers, crayons and markers. Blank white paper
sheets. Students are told that they will be researching
a particularplanet in the solar system. They first do a
complete profile of that planet. Questions sheets are
prepared for that research. After this is completed they
draw their planet. Each group thenpresents their planet
and shares what they have learned with the rest of the class.

PRAGUE, Aug 24, 2006 (Reuters) - Scientists from around the world on Thursday approved a new definition of a planet, downgrading Pluto's status to leave just eight classical planets.
After a heated debate, 2,500 scientists and astronomers voted at the International Astronomers Union General Assembly that Pluto, which has been called a planet since being discovered in 1930, would be put into a category of planets called "dwarf planets". (Reuters - August 24, 2006)
