At the end of the very long Vatera Beach is the small port of Agios Fokas, with only a few inhabitants and a couple of good fish tavernas. In this village just above the harbour you can find the ruins of a Christian basilica and a temple dedicated to Dionysos, that dates from the first century BC. It stands next to a small church. In the cozy little harbour you have a great view of the southcoast of Lesbos. You can eat freshly caught fish in a taverna while looking out over the sea. The coastline is rough and there are plenty of rocks in the sea. Through the village of Agios Fokas floats a small river in which you can see turtles swimming around.
The last part of the way to the hamlet of Agios Fokas can only be reached by a dirttrack (2006).
