Hamel firefighters and firefighters from mutual aid depts from Worden, Alhambra, Marine, Olive Dist., Holiday Shores and New Douglas operate at a four-alarm warehouse fire on the north side of Hamel. The building housed a research facility for the Pioneer Seed Corp. The building contained several vehicles, including tractors and a tractor-trailer. Also within the building were several seed-experiments being conducted and several chemicals. Firefighters were on the scene for more than eight hours before the fire was brought under control. A response was also called for the next day for a rekindle. Two firefighters received minor injuries during the blaze. The cause of the fire has not been determined. Photos by Jeremy Paschall
